...site software's been getting flaky again, of course right near the end of a major sale event.  Par for the course I guess.

Been five years since the switch to Magento now and there are still serious stability issues.

...and the spell check still bites as it doesn't even seem to take into account a good number of common typos as well as not flagging anything below 4 characters.

..I always found the fish on Friday thing to be a little odd as it was a specifically a Catholic tradition (no meat on Friday) which became adopted by others who did not subscribe to the religion itself. For example in my old hometown of Milwaukee WI, many protestant and non denominational groups also observed the Friday meat "taboo".

Actually,  way back in the day the fish and chips on Friday thing was like a weekly treat.   Dad got paid on Friday and could pick up fish and chips from the local chippy on his way home, all tastefully wrapped up in newspaper, to give Mum a break from cooking.

I still occassionally have fish& chips on Friday, although the local chippies are nowhere near as good as what I remember from my youth.

I have found that they vary.    We had a very good one, when I lived for a couple of years in St Margarets in Twickenham   They came from Lancashire.     The local one here is not too bad at all, although not Cordon Bleu by any means, but quite edible and good sized portions.   Trouble is that since we moved from one house to this one the chippy is no longer as convenient, as the only way to get to it is an extremely steep footpath, which even the fit younger locals avoid, or jump in a car.  Now I am on my own I no longer have a car. They will deliver, but needs a minimum order of a tenner and the new owner (who is actually a bit better than the old one) has changed the name to Harry's place. It used to be if you wanted to give people directions to the area where we used to live you asked them did they know Rudi's,  everyone local knew Rudi's.

It's not so much a taboo as it is an economic policy, but not what you may have learned as a child.

The real poop on the fish conspiracy, involving among others, Henry VIII and Edward VI. http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2012/04/05/150061991/lust-lies-and-empire-the-fishy-tale-behind-eating-fish-on-friday

Many restaurants made a habit of preparing more fish on Fridays in order to be able to accomodate those who were observant.

When I was a kid even the school cafeterias (in Tennessee anyway) served fish sticks on Fridays (just in case any of the children were observant - I loved fish sticks).

My brother is observant on Fridays during Lent (which is currently on-going until Easter) and it is all part of a "fasting" day, no flesh except fish, only two small meals are consumed accompanied by prayer and reflection.

I don't know why you say that.   Cheese and fish actually go well together.    One of my fave ways of cooking salmon (or several other sorts of fish) is with a cheese sauce, or sometimes, if I am in a hurry when preparing. just sliced cheese on the top, wrapped in foil and oven cooked.   Another way of using fish and cheese together is in a potato topped fish pie, which is similar to a cottage pie.  Use mixed fish, normally some salmon, smoked fish and white fish and cover with a savoury white sauce in a greased dish,  top with mashed potato and then grated cheese on the top,  then cook in the oven till the top is all golden brown and melted.   Fish Pie is so popular that Some supermarkets have started selling packages of chopped fish, all ready to use in this way.  I think that they probably use the trimmings from when they are making nice neat tidy portions of fish.

I'm a "Catholic Lite" (strong belief in God but no church except for special events to support loved ones), so I don't practice "Fish on Fridays".

But I do OFTEN have fish on Fridays, because I love fish; especially salmon and tuna.  Haven't had fish-sticks or fish-n-chips for decades, though.

When I grill salmon (which is the only way I prepare it), I don't put cheese on it, but that's only because cheese, although delicious, is a dominant flavor-carrier and I like the taste of salmon a little bit more than I like the taste of cheese.

When I'm all out of salmon, then I'll just have the leftover cheese.  wink

Back in an unsavory part of my life I once had to live in a place where the roaches would take the milk! surprise

or Florentine - a layer of spinach, put fish on top, cover with cheese sauce, and bake.

Of late, my favorite fish dish is Poke (pokeh. pokay). There are a gazillion recipes out there, but my recipe involves toasted sesame oil, rice vinager, fish sauce, soy sauce, garlic, mirin, and sesame seeds. Combine ingredients. Cube raw Ahi tuna fillets and toss with prepared sauce, serve over lettuce and cubed cucumber (you can add cooked shrimp, too). Most recipes involve marinating the tuna. I just coat and eat. I make enough sauce to act a the salad dressing as well.

I am so frustrated.  I feel like no matter what I do I am doing it wrong.  I was just called lazy and I felt angry.  I am not lazy.

I am being lectured about how wrong I am and how right the other person is.  Apparently it is fine to call someone lazy if they are in control.

It is nine pm and I need to go to bed within the hour.   I wrote a long email to my suppoer team to help me express myself to at least someone who can hopefully help me instead of quasi-help me.
