Don't know if it's been said, but Sunny uses Sunny7 UVs; not impressed, I'd likely not have bothered if I'd known. I'm not sure if I'll return it or not.
I recall a year or so back when Mec4D said if the PBR values are not correct, an item can really slow down the render. So when I see people commenting on the Sunny Hair taking "forever" to render, makes me wonder if applying UHT/UHT2 or Oot's IrayPair Hair Shaders would speed things up... Guess I'll find out soon, as I'll be getting the Pro bundle tomorrow...
That could open a can of worms as I'm sure comments earlier in the thread were rejoicing over the product page stating it's Base G3F UV's !!
I was one of those rejoicing. Decided I'll likely keep the character, but I'll raise a ticket.
I converted Sunny7 to Default UVs; looks fine.
I toned down the head amount, as I think its too much; other than switching the textures after conversion, the shader is the same as the character comes with.
I deleted the image as it the bra doesn't quite cover the nipples; I'll repost when I've got a render redone.
Okay, new image as I said; I've change the shader to show what Sunny7 looks like with a lighter skin. (Converted to default UVs.)
Oh, and removed the painted on eyebrows and used fibremesh instead; I shaped them to be close to the original.
For me, it seems that the slowdown for the hair is caused by having displacement ON and (I think it was set to 2 or 3 levels). I removed/turned off displacement and saw an immediate speed up, with no real difference in the render...maybe if it was a closeup (or even closer than a full body shot) it may make a difference. Anyway, that's what the slowness was in my case.
Displacement is supposed to make IRAY cry like a baby. :)
Iray can displace only vertices - in the base mesh or from SubD. So a model that wasn't designed with Iary in mind may need to have an unmangeable level of SubD applied to get the required number of vertices, but a model that was designed with Iray displacement in mind (probably supplemented with normals for fine details) should be manageable.
That's good to know.
Good catch! That may be it, and not the material/shaders.
+1
Sunny done in latest reality with 3DL SSS materials. No post work.Clothes and hair are in Iray materials.
The product page explicitly says that she uses Base Female UV (see attached). I suppose it's boilerplate that crept in somehow, or some such.
I wasn't that interested in her as an Official "7" figure (as I don't think she brings enough to the table to warrant being a "7"), and now knowing that she also has her own separate UV - she is without a doubt a 'no' for me.
I like what the character adds much more than many others, and prefer the character more than TJ7; then again Josie7 seems too styleised. Especially the eyes.
I converted the character to default G3F UVs; not seeing any issues, which I have yet to see when converting UVs. Occasionally the process itself overwirtes a texture; I just keep an eye out and grab a copy of it when that happens (before it gets overwritten). I posted an image above.
... And here is one with the character's shader settings at default.
Cath Hair processed through VWD.
Same as before. Reality 4 3dL SSS material for sunny7, everything else Iray.
