Thanks to all the stacking discounts I've mostly been buying older products... things that I passed on for use in the past both at here and at Rendo, but that for prices between 70 cents and 3 bucks will be useful for kitbashing.  Some things, though I still have little use for.  Expression packs for pre-8.1 that just bog down loading, texture sets for items that are only minor changes from the original or where I can easily duplicate the same thing with shaders I already own, shader packs that basically duplicate ones that I already own (how many floral or plaid patterns can anyone need?) short skirts that are indistinguishable from 70 I already own, and pose packs that duplicate the same old Vickie posing like she's at a model shoot instead of someone doing normal motions, and so on.... The one thing that really stands out, overall, though, through all this weeding and cherrypicking, is how less interesting so many of the newer products are.  It's astonishing how many G9 hairs don't even have movement morphs now, and it's espcially shocking to find them missing on so many items that aren't even set up for d-force. I thought we'd stopped doing that back in the days of Victoria 3, for cripes sake...

Well, technically it's that there are no Darius or Monique 9 YET, as DAZ is still cranking out new base figures at a stupid pace so there's always a possibility that they'll show up.  That said, G9 seems to have abandoned a lot of the classic character names beyond Michael and Victoria, with Teen Josie becoming just Josie 9 and the venerable Aiko 9 reduced to a premier only add-on.

The Nile Sun and Safari Retreat

After the political debacle, the Fernandes family sent Remigio abroad, until the storm had calmed down. Remigio got a brilliant idea while travelling in Egypt. He bought a hotel complex close to the Nile river, and fenced off the crocodiles, so the tourists could swim in the same water as crocodiles without any dangers. Everything was smooth, until this guy calling himself Tarzan, started to challenge the tourists to dive from the natural stone bridge, on the wrong side of the fence.

Yeah, looking for freebies on Deviantart is painful. I'm at a point where I think I have saw and saved most of them, so I'm just looking at the result of a search for 'daz freebie' and I think it'll caught most of them (not all, some people don't use either words sadly).

I had my eyes on the Verse line by Aeon Soul and finally got the Verse Moi outfit a week ago. I wanted to see it in action and bought it with the idea of using it with Victoria 8.1 so the work started with adjusting how that outfit fited on her, using Blender.

Morning stroll in New York

’Finally, some of time off’, thought both at the end of a hectic exams season.

Thankfully, they had planned for it in advance, dreaming about it on many occasions, and could travel to New York as soon as possible, jumping on a high-speed train, with the idea of enjoying the countryside around the railroads.

Alas, they didn’t see that much: both were sound asleep before their train was even able to achieve its top speed.

Maybe.

Meanwhile, thanks to that impromptu sleep time, both were in perfect shape and could get out of their hotel early on.

That would be relevant, if eightiesisenough's comparison was the discontinuation of a certain base figure or program, and not the complete cessation of operations.

If daz3d shut down, there's no amount of online complaining that's going to bring it back.

I don't think we need to worry about losing it. Only that it will become unaffordable. I've been using DAZ since the days of Michael 3 and Victoria 3. But ever since Genesis came out, it's becoming more and more of a money pit. I mean practically every year they release a new version of the Genesis characters, which means content creators have less time to create accessories for the characters before they move on to the latest generation. Which means less content available for each generation and forced upgrades to new generations, etc.

Just look at Genesis 8, for example. There are accessories and morphs for Genesis 8 that are not compatible with Genesis 8.1. And accessories and morphs for Genesis 8.1 that are not compatible with Genesis 8.

I've been working with DAZ Studio for some years, but only from the outside of the user interface. I'm still a noob about understanding what's going on inside.

From what I've read, when I add a figure to my workspace, Studio loads the basic datasets for that figure, mesh, bones, textures. Then I might move a parameter slider to morph the figure into a character, Victoria for example. The moment I alter the morph value away from zero is when the morph data is loaded and added to the other datasets for my figure. Every morph I touch will load more data into my workspace.

As I shape the figure into the character I seek, I may end up combining ten morphs to face and body. I may also tweak thirty-odd other morphs as I hunt for the effect I want by trial-and-error, and reject them by setting them back to zero. If I understand correctly, the data to enable all these rejected morphs is still loaded into my character, but producing zero effect.

If this is true, is there a way to clear out the unused morph data and lighten the loads in my workspace and filespace? If the answer is in one of the many nuts-and-bolts entries in a chain of drop-down menus, I haven't identified it yet. I appreciate the help and thanks for reading.

Anti gravity flight

(Actually, Genesis 4 existed, but something went terribly wrong and it's been locked up in an attic ever since.  Everyone at DAZ pretends it never happened, but there's a Victoria sister whose name they changed to... Dooonese:

It was commented on at the time and since, but it was done for a simple reason - people got confused that the named figures didn't match the Genesis numbers (e.g. Victoria 5 for Genesis, Victoria 6 for Genesis 2, Victoria 7 for Genesis 3) so the numbers were brought into alignment.
