Well, let's face it, very little on the internet is a reliable source of anything as almost all online forum threads, store reviews,social media groups, stores, "newssites", etc., etc., can be pretty heavily skewed these days, both because the vast majority of people can't be bothered to actually read or post anything no matter how positive or negative their opinions and/or their knowledge of the subject, giving the postings of the minority who do a much higher apparent profile no matter how far off they are from the statistical norm, while the things that do make it online can often be heavily weeded to conform to the hosting bodies liking, and that's before we get to things like advertisements masquerading as news,  or even out and out BS whose only purpose is to serve as clickbait (sorry, if you've taken one of those online IQ tests that claim you've got a 120 IQ if you can answer 12 questions, but knowing who played Jethro on the Beverly Hillbillies TV series* isn't really a verifiable indicator of mental acuity.)  And yes, now that a huge amount of data online is being generated by AI engines instead of real humans, which only samples the garbage that's already out there and then reassembles it in a half-baked fashion, it's only getting worse.  

*It was Max Baer Jr., by the way.

I'm looking for a pair of tailored pants that are fitted, but I can't find any that are what I want. I've been looking for this type of pants, but most of what I find are cargo pants, which aren't what I'm looking for

A new years and a new round of RRRR.
The theme for this round is  It was a great idea, but... 
Just image all those great ideas with a less then great outcome, all those Hold by beer moments, or anything imaginable that someone imagines, does that clearly shows why everyone else dropped the idea before.
Check the entries only thread, first post, for an example on how to post an entry.

RRRR stands for Random Runtime Roulette Renders, and it's a contest that has been running for over twelve years now, on and off. We invite anyone to enter, specially all those new users who have shown up the past years. This is not the usual make a very nice render contest but more like tell a really great story, often fun, with your render!

How does it work?
Make your pull of 4 items, and if your any Lucky Bastards, you pull one extra item per LB.

Who can play?

Anyone can play!

How do you prepare yourself for play?

The rules are very simple, but first you need to have all your items in some kind of order in a text file, dumped from the itemized history into a text file or a spread sheet. Remove things like software, gift certs, and special plugins from the list and items that wil not work with the software you work with.
 For example if you have items for Poser, Bryce or Carrara, and want to use DAZ Studio, remove those other items from your list. If you have loads of older figures, M3, M4, a ton of non Iray stuff and you only want to use Studio with Iray, remove all the junk from you list. 

Then you use a randomizer to randomly pick items from your list (your Runtime/My Library) for your start pull . You can use items from any store. Now build a scene with those 4 items plus any other items you want to add to make a fun scene. For newcomers I heartly recommend looking at the previous contests below to get ideas how you can do this.

There are some situations where you allowed to redraw, these are:


- You pulled something that doesn’t work, broken thing, only works in a version / software not used etc etc, or you forgot to remove that item from you list even though you knew it wont work, or figure that out later.
- You pulled a software or add-on to a software or anything you should have filtered out from the list.
- You pulled only huge environment props and will not be able to render a scene without crashing.
- You pulled an item you already have been using in two RRRR renders in this content and that was picked randomly. Three is a curse - rule!

Lucky Bastard Rule!
I say this again: If you have Lucky Bastards, you pull one extra item for each LB you have, simple as that. 
Explaination of Lucky Bastards. 
Lucky Bastards, or LBs, are a form of handicap system which makes the contest a little more difficult for those who have won.

How to play?
You pull, you compose and you Render. You post your images and pulls in this thread (Don't miss that, entries without pulls and posts in this thread will be disqualified!!).
Then the entry should also be posted in the Entries only thread.

Bundles
If you pull a bundle, use two or three complete items from it, or more if you like, but you do not need to use all, but only picking a hairpin from Victoria 8 Pro Bundle is “too little”. Clarification: A bundle still counts as only one pulled item.

Poses, Expressions and textures/colors
If you pull a pose pack, an expression pack or a texture/color pack, you only need to use one of them, not all. For example if you pull 500 expressions for Genesis 8 Female, use one, if you pull 128 colors for Frappe Hair, use one.
Accidenty breaking the TOS
If your entry is removed by the forum mods because it accidentally, not deliberate, broke the TOS, you do not have to redo that entry but can move on and make a new pull. 

The rules of madness! 
Now you have successfully and randomly picked your items, make a scene, you can add other items as well but the one you picked should be prominent or cleverly used. Render it, post it and make us all laugh! Remember though that the renders must follow the TOS of the forum. As we have a theme on the contest, the render should in some way touch that theme.

I know Perlk publishes a certain amount of freebies here, but the 5Mb forum attachment limit is quite restrictive for clothing.

I just tried sending a DS4 job to Iray server and it accepted it fine, but when I tried to start the render using my 5090, it errored out with the message below:

The only real benefit of this info is that you can upgrade to the newest version of Iray Server without having to worry about compatibility, it will use whatever version of Iray the job is encoded in, even if its older.  But you still have to match the GPU used to the Iray version of the job.

I just looked at an older version of of the (protocol) workers in Iray Server. It looks like they don't re-compile the older workers when they release a new version. So what you tested now makes sense to me. In that, a worker is compiled to support all the Nvidia cards that are avaliable at the time of an Iray Server build. So an older iray worker does may not be compatible with a new Nvidia card released after that release.

I'll start a new forum thread to discuss Iray Server stuff.

Agreed that especially following the widespread adoption of personal cameras in the early 20th century subjects in photo albums can be anything that appealed to the photographer. Similarly, studios would have samples of their work to illustrate different poses and backgrounds, and for advertising purposes. My father took thousands of photos over his lifetime and for many I have no idea of who the subjects were, and of course they aren't family. In this case, however, all the identified photos are members of several families who intermarried over several generations, many of whom were employed in a family business enterprise. The exceptions are a teacher at a school that several family members attended, two couples who were family friends, a man who was a business partner of a family member (and was distantly related by marriage), and a man in Turkish dress, photographed with a friend who is identified and also in a larger group including that friend. I cannot connect his name with the family directly, but this Maine Quaker community was involved in setting up schools in Palestine and Lebanon around the turn of the century (which would have been under Ottoman rule which explains the costumes worn) and I expect this man was involved with that effort and likely a family friend. The unidentified photos are of various children, a number of women, mostly in their 20s or 30s, and a few men also in their 20s or 30s, plus this older woman. There are plenty of key family members of the right age from this group who aren't identified - siblings of people or spouses of people who were photographed, as well as plenty of children. I know that the identifying labels were written long after the photos were taken because, for instance, there are photos of  young women (highschool graduation age) identified by their married names. This can explain the unidentified photos, as whom ever wrote the labels didn't know or remember all those photographed. The labels are all written in the same hand. Long and short - no evidence of photographs of random people in this particular case.Can't be ruled out, but seems unlikely. This is, of course, academic unless I can identify some of the unlabeled subjects. My hope has been to find others who had copies of at least some of these photos with the 'mystery' people identified - thus my query here in this forum regarding the photo of the older woman.

"Sort by % off" hasn't worked for years (on Chrome or Firefox or anywhere else). There are messages mentioning this problem back in 2022 and 2023, and that's just me going to a random page of this forum, not me trying to find the earliest mention of it. If all else fails, remove the extension, and install it again. Make sure your firewall doesn't block our requests. 

I contacted you directly back when I first paid for the extension and noticed "% off" not working for me. I tried everything you suggested, including completely removing and re-installing it; there is no firewall issues either. I went through the forum looking for any other ways of fixing it that people may have mentioned (but mainly just found lots of people saying it doesn't work for them either). As I mentioned in my post, the last time this came up was back in August. Someone said it didn't work for them and half a dozen people chimed in to say it doesn't work for them either.

If a feature doesn't work for a huge number of people, and the problem can be seen consistently happening to people over many years, then it DOESN'T work. Even if it works for lots of people (which I will take your word on), it clearly doesn't work for a very sizeable number of people.

I'm sorry this feature continues to not work for you, truly. The issue I've been facing (also for years) is that we've never been able to determine why it fails. Since it's not failing for me and since there's no clear difference between who it fails for and who it doesn't fail for...there's no way to fix it...sadly.

I'll continue to look for ways to improve that feature and see what else we can uncover, but until I can replicate a situation where it breaks...I'm not able to fix it.

If you want to message me directly, I'm happy to try and sort out specifics (try other browsers, determine what other features work or don't, etc.), but much of that has (as you noted) already been done over the years. Happy to try again, though, as I also don't want features that only seem to work for "half" of the group.

I need a name to search - so far no name, just the photo and its context as clues. Those suggesting that the photo was randomly included in the album, and the photo bears no relation to the rest of the 60 plus photos, are almost surely wrong. I need to get my cousin to check the back of the card to see the studio name. If this proves to be "W.C. Tuttle of Belfast Maine" then I will be sure the subject had a family relationship to others pictured in the album. There are a few photos of unrelated people, but they were family friends, business associates, or had a connection through The Society of Friends (Quakers). As the subject is an older woman, likely around 60, she will have been one of the other subjects mother or grandmother. Birth years probably around 1830.

Well, you are right! At least in certainly looked that way. Although Richard denies paternity (and I believe him), he is related to Miss Kitty, and so he is related to her "children". They are probably grown up by now and out prowling around on their own. Perhaps they will come visit him in a future episode.

Strand based Hair always turned out to be an utter fail to me.
It is slow, it is impossible to add custom edits and in most of the times, the simulated movement is hardly visible no matter the settings.
It is not on me, to fiddle around with the settings until I get something to work. It is on the vendor.
My bad, I have been too exicited to finally see some dforce hair for G9 AND G8F in the store again.
This attached render is AFTER and before simulation at low stiffness settings. Everything else is by default.
There is some simulation happening, but very subtile.
You can guess, which hair is simulated and which one is not.
Bottom line is, this is Not, why I purchase dforce hair.

• As I understand it, vendors make it stiff like that to hold its style (the curls, etc.). I have been told the "dForce" doesn't even mean simulation is possible. Some "dForce" strand based hairs don't even simulate at all and just report an error if you try. Daz says those products are performing as designed and are not defective. 
• If that is "dForce Strand-Based FE With Dishevelled(sic) Hair for Genesis 9, 8, and 8.1" that you are working with, it does come with several morphs that may help get the hair into the position you want. It might even dForce better after applying one of those morphs to move the strands. I don't own it, so I haven't tested that theory.
• It is possible to make simulating dForce hair simulate with more movement, and it is also possible for users to create morphs for it. I have posted the technique at least a couple times in the forum. Most recently, I think it was in a The dForce Hair Thread. Some hairs work much better than others. Result vary a lot depending on the way the vendor rooted the hair strands. It is not a trivial process, though. And results may be completely unsatisfactory to you.
• If you are frustrated with the product and it doesn't meet your expectations, return it for a refund. Don't keep what you can't use. How else will vendors get the idea that what they are selling is not working for some customers?
• Linday (not strand based) hair simulates beautifully and, retains the curls.
   

It would be the same on Windows if you set the remote drive to not auto-mount on start-up.

It looks like they have moved the settings on the newer versions of OSX so not sure where it lives in the natural navigation, however if you open settings and search for "Open at login" you should see a screen where you can configure that. Drag the mounted volume from your desktop to the table at the top and it should add it as a "Volume" type. From now on it should auto-mount that volume for you on bootup (if the drive is available).

Ah, that is hard. I had the greatest ideas when I was moving and traveling and without DAZ. So may I recommend you check out DAZ+ and the older content of environments that came out and their texture sets. Or just look at every PAs' store, checking out what they create, wishlisting what you might use, love, lust for... and when they come up on a deep sale might be able to buy. It also helps you become really familiar with the range each artist creates and what the don't. That doesn't mean they might not expand their range some day. And if you have DAZ Deals, you will be able to see links to Forum threads and see if a comment speaks to it, good, bad, a sale pricing issue, or how to adapt an older item to Iray.

Going to try and say it in cryptic manner. I had two processes that were still aronud somehow. One can be stopped in process manager. The other I had to run resmon and go to the CPU tab. There's a search for handles. Type in DAZ and stop those ones too. Then remove your DAZ folder in program files.

You may have checked these locations: couch cushions, below the couch and the sides, laundry hamper, kitchen cabinets, bedroom drawers, bathroom hidey holes, between towels that are stacked, in the garage/patio/breezeway/front stoop, between books on shelves, laying flat with games, or you can ask him flat out if he can help find the missing pads. Make it a game of hide and seek the pads.

As for the tablets... unfortunately, asking where they (or anything) is just gets a blank stare. And yup, checked absolutely everywhere. I learned when Teen Kiddo was about 2 years old that logic isn't required for something to be somewhere... they lost their beloved stuffed bunny, and a multiple-hour search turned up nothing. We had to deploy the Emergency Backup Bunny from my folks' house. The next day, kiddo opened the one drawer I hadn't looked in because it was so full I couldn't imagine anything else going in... and there was the bunny.

Thankfully the tablet situation has been somewhat resolved for now... I recruited Teen Kiddo to keep an eye out. They looked everywhere and eventually announced that the House Fae must've run off with them. And less then a minute and a half after saying that, both tablets showed up in completely obvious places it would have been impossible to miss, and it couldn't possibly have been Little Dude who put them there because he was down the hall playing the opening snippit of one of his videos on a 10-second repeat.

And both of them were too charged up for how long I know he'd been playing with them before they disappeared. And the charging ports for them are all in my bedroom.

So anyway, happy ending, and next time I maybe just need to loudly announce in the middle of the room that I'd like them either returned or the kindness of some assistnce in relocating them somewhere obvious.

I'm not shocked, though. Weird stuff's happened around me since I was a kid, and Teen Kiddo has pretty much been that on steriods for their entire life. Once when they were about 1.5 I stepped into the bathroom and just about had a heart attack when they jumped out from behind the door giggling... because I had just left them playing in the living room to walk down the hall and pee. It's a narrow hall. There's no way for so much as a cat to get past without being noticed, let alone an entire toddler.
