Firstly, Is there any way to have the LAMH player NOT use my main hardrive? I have daz installed to a secondary drive, including temp and cache, but LAMH insists on using User/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/lookatmyhairAM/geometry/, and I would like to change that since I use an SSD for my main drive and try to keep any programs from using it except my OS.

Secondly, I am experiencing constant crashing when trying to use the LAMH player on anything but the simplest scenes, as I have to use the obj function because I use reality/lux for rendering. So far I have been able to load a single gorilla and successfully convert his hair to obj, however in the actual scene I am working on (the LAMH figure, a G3 figure, a room, some lights/cameras, a few props) once i get everything set and posed hitting obj crashes my scene every time. Which is a bummer because I created a lycanthrope figure out of the gorilla, and it looks pretty good, but I would like to be able to get the hair working and after spending several evenings and many hours I cannot seem to get LAMH to work when I need it without crashing.

Any insight into all of this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I've found LAMH incredibly unstable and you just have to keep treating it like a skittish horse that might kick you in the throat.

    Good luck. :/

I haven't found a way to stop LaMH from using the Documents folder, but you can move the Docuemnts folder to a new drive and LaMH wil respect that. Right-click on the folder, select Properties, go to the Location tab and set the folder you want to use as your Documents folder.

  • Folks, please send your post-crash log files at '[email protected]' so that I can take a look at what's going on. OBJ export can put the system at heavy test, depending on the number of items and hair quantity to be exported. A 64bit OS with plenty of  memory and free disk space is mandatory; besides that, if the OBJ export it's crashing all the times, as I said better to take a look at log files, as the reason might be something else.

The LAMH updates currently being worked should make it more stable (even if we cannot account for whatever DAZ Studio updates will come, which are the main reason for issues) and fix some annoyances (like the impossibility to set a custom export folder).

Mine (full version) almost never crashes on my pc.  but I have a ton of memory and one of the newest nvidea cards.  Crashes slightly more often but not a lot on the lap top.  But its 5 years old and has a lot of other stuff on it.  Stuff like this is will always be a work in progress because it has to be updated as the other things that use it are updated.  Problems are going to come up.  How many pc games come out riddled with bugs? They get patches  and more patches and some of them if the company is still around and there is enough interest still get patches years later.  It tends to be the nature of the beast.  At least with this we get very quick help and they work pretty darn hard to stay on top of things and continue to improve things.  Which I think is awesome.

    Clever and realistic analysis.

OBJ export can be incredibly heavy.  Lux doesn't help that situation by further expanding the memory used.  If you have the full LAMH, try using the LAMH FiberHair export instead.  It will write out a much lighter set of hairs that are Iray/Lux/Octane usable and may still fit within the limitations of the rendering engines.

As Alessandro said, we are close to an update that will be much more stable.  Stay tuned.

    Thanks for the replies all!

No need to defend the product, I am not criticizing just trying to see if anyones had similar issues, maybe get some help, and hopefully learn something in the process:) And I was successful on all three, so thank you for that.

I am in fact low on harddrive space so I will look into fixing that, and good to know about the moving the documents folder thing, would never have occurred to me. I am of course hesitant to buy the full product at the moment but may in fact eventually do just that when funds permit because I like the concept and prospective improvement to my renders, hair products being so generally... not very realistic (trying to be diplomatic:). Do have 64 bit os and 16g ram, although I realize 16 isnt much in the scheme of things that wont be changing any time soon.

Anyway, thanks for the replies, I will free up some harddrive space, check the log file next time and go from there, thanks!
