The list looks quite like my to-do list of poses to create.

One thing not mentioned - Generation for the poses. I tend to do G8 (what I use) but also I am converting to G9 for the new sets I do. I've converted some of my older sets, but they're not used too frequently.

I'm trying to put together partial letter poses for several sign languages (Brit/Aus/NZ, US, French, Spanish & German) for G8 & G9. I've completed all except the German ones and the promo images.

@jmucchiello. smart phone poses. I've done four poses (and mirrors) which may be useful, visible here with G8F:

     and

and here for the G9 version.

@WendyLuvsCats : Which cat would you prefer (as opposed to what you think is viable)? Zeus? As you know, I've already released some Zeus poses, and I have no objection to doing more if they'll go to a good home. And which generation of catslave?

    Regards,

    Richard

I have already grabbed your poses, heart not used them yet

but the humans are what I was thinking about more, cats will cat

    I mostly use Zeus

I am honestly not a huge pose buyer, was really just being cheeky in the thread

while I use poses for starting points, animations are more the thing I collect

most of the poses that exist seem to be the sexy types I don't use at all

you certainly fill a gap there yes with your more useful ones

  • Probably right about the catslave poses. Will have to think on which would be appropriate. Having less practice with Zeus makes creating his poses take longer than humans. Regards, Richard.

I only own housecat (and big cat 2, but I doubt you mean that cat :) ).

I used to require G9. But BJ Pose Zone really works. Any pose on any figure.

I would love more Zeus poses. Thank you @richardandtracy for the ones you linked. I picked those up a while ago.

While we're asking for poses, I could use some badass vampire slayer poses for G9, and some stakes. I couldn't fnd any poses that amounted to more than a handgrip for the stakes I found in the store.

edit: OK, I did finally find some slayer poses by doing a Google search instead of a store search. But they don't come with the stake, and the one used in the promos is not smart propped and doesn't have heirarchical poses AFAICT. Shame. I'll probably buy them anyway, but I would buy more if they appeared. Especially if they reqiured less fiddling on my part.

Wait, are you saying Pose Zone works for nonhuman figures too?

I only meant humanoid figures based on Daz Gn figures.

I was attesting to the fact I've used (full and partial) G9 poses on G3 figures. G3F poses on G3M figures. G3F poses on G9 figures. Etc.

    Oh, I misread you.

That would be pretty awesome though...

I'm working on some cat-human interaction poses, and thought I'd share two of the earliest ones in poses I'm much more familiar than I want to be. I'm guessing what they look like, but they feel like humiliation. The poses are hierarchical, and rely on the cat and human being loaded and the cat parented to the human. These are G8F, but I'll do them all as G9 too. These are the .tip images from the first 2 poses.

Character has G8F base body and the head and texture is Valiona for G7F converted to G8F.

    Regards,

    Richard.

I'm Richard Haseltine could make good use of those poses in my stories, once you get a G9 Version.

You are? That is going to be really confusing.

  • I'm sure there's a lost and orphaned 'sure' roaming around somewhere. Regards, Richard.
  • It'll be in the lost and found section in smart content yes

  • It's ridiculous how difficult Human-Cat interaction poses are.

I spent nearly 2 hours last night posing a cat standing on someone's shoulders like my parent's cat 'Poppy' did. How on earth did she get her centre of gravity so she didn't fall off? It may explain why, on occasions, she took huge mouthfuls of hair and seemed to want to pull the mouthful out by the roots... Maybe in reality, she was just hanging on.

I'm not sure if mirror poses are going to be practicable.

    Regards,

    Richard

Some artists spent their whole life painting horses. Dunno but maybe you can spent a whole life posing cats too.

Looking at those pictures - anyway it's art.

Grabbing a handle/knob and opening a door. Plus moving through the doorway. Pulling a door closed behind you. Pushing a door open.

Cool. I managed to turn a walking pose into what I wanted because the arm swung forward was not far from the door handle.

I was going to suggest kicking in a door. But thought "better" of it. And then I follow your link and you made one. Cool. Also, I forgot knocking.

I thank you for your free poses.

Is there an idiot's guide to saving poses as presets anywhere? I have a few I could share.

  • richardandtracyrichardandtracy Posts: 8,139

I don't know if there is one. This is what I try to remember to do:

    1. If for G8 I try to avoid using any sliders for hand poses as they don't mirror automatically.
    2. Do the pose with the root node translations and rotations set to zero, only translate the hip in the Y axis to make the correct bits touch the floor (Y=0). X=Z=0 translation for the hip.
    3. Use a base figure not a character. If the face/head doesn't interact with any other part of the body, you can use a character's face to make the base figure look less horrible.
    4. Pose the figure.
    5. When complete, select a bone in the figure.
    6. Save As| Pose Preset. After choosing the filename, this will open a window for you to select the bits to be saved. Here is where the guts of the pose are made or broken. Firstly you see a window with 5 tick boxes. The root node, the hip node, something called 'General' and two others. Only untick 'Hip' if you want a partial pose, you will need to expand the tree from hip to choose the bone poses you want to save. Untick the 'General' tick box below the root node for poses you're distributing. If it's left ticked, the character will move about the user's scene when the pose is applied. Not wanted by users. The other two tick boxes control saving of sliders and shaping sliders. On G8 I try to avoid the need to save sliders, if you use them leave this ticked, else untick it as the pose file is smaller. This is more difficult to achieve with G9. It also makes quick and easy mirroring difficult. As for shaping - unless they are special morphs for the pose, you shouldn't need to save shaping sliders positions for a base figure. But it's safer to leave ticked if you're unsure.
    7. Now the pose is saved, you need to supply more attractive thumbnails and tip images. These are saved alongside the pose, having format 'Pose Name.duf.png' and 'Pose Name.tip.png'. Render in Iray, make them little works of art, especially the tip images. The thumbnail images are historically 91*91pixels. Tip images are 256*256 historically, though I do 512*512 or 512*256 so they're easier to see on high ppi screens.
    8. Now repeat for a mirror pose. The pose can be mirrored using Edit|Figure|Symmetry, then selecting 'Start from root node', recursive propagation, swap left and right and mirror about the Y axis for the first 4 drop down combo boxes. If the pose is 100% posed bones, you will now have a mirror pose. If some sliders were used, they'll need manual mirroring.
    9. Save pose and create thumbnail and tip images.
    10. On a different drive (so you don't accidentally move the poses instead of copy), create a directory tree starting content|People|{base figure name}|Poses|{your name}|{Pose set name} and copy 3 files into the directory for each pose and 3 for each mirror.
    11. Write a read me file giving pose name, history, limitations and copyright.
    12. Compress the directory and read me to a zip file
    13. Distribute zip file
    14. Do corrections when users find errors. As they often do..

In the case of G9 I struggle with 3) as I find the base figures really creepy to work with, and more often use a character.

Anyway, hope that's of some use as an idiots guide. Well, it's written by an idiot, so it's the idiot's guide.

    Regards,

    Richard
