Concerned - old user using Mac Silicon

I'm having problems installing new versions of Mac Studio and IM.

I dont see much mention of Apple Silicon, M1,M2,M3,M4 with Daz Studio, except using Parallels.

Is Daz discontinuing support for Apple, non intel based processors ?

    macOS: Ventura (13), Sonoma (14), Sequoia (15), Tahoe (26)

    • 64-bit Intel (x86_64)
    • Apple Silicon (arm64) is currently supported through Rosetta emulation
      • Native support is pending

For now Rosetta 2 (not Paralells) is doing the work, that will be available until the Mac OS update next year I believe, so there is not yet any urgent need for native Apple Silicon support (though the concern is understandable, of course).

  • It's not like this eventuality hasn't been clear for years. Is Daz going to wait until Rosetta is removed from macOS before starting work on an Apple Silicon version, or is the plan simply to end Mac support at that point? Continued reliance on Iray suggests Daz has lost interest in Mac users.

Back in 2015 it probably seemed a good idea, as the MacBook Pro was equipped with Kepler. However, Iray does work fine with the cpu as well, allowing any computer to run it, a RTX card is just better for performances. For the sake of completeness it has to be said that, in time, Apple made every possible effort to be not compatible with anything else, this made developing software for Apple extremely expensive, in general, so it's not a surprise if they now struggle with software.

A good thing that a) my iMac is Intel and b) I run it with Manjaro Linux. But it's a shame for those with the expensive Silicon machines. Maybe Linux would be a possibility there as well? Feeling ya, anyways.

I am sure they will aim to have an Apple Silicon version ready before Rosetta 2 is removed, but theya re not going to make any public comments by the look of it.

Of course one option for Apple users is to export to blender, which works fine on Apple Silicon, among other advantages. Unfortunately the daz bridges don't work on DS6, but personally I'd recommend Diffeomorphic anyway, or use DS4 if you got it baked up.

p.s. But this requires Rosetta 2 anyway to run DS. Otherwise Diffeomorphic has a feature which can import directly from the daz library, thus DS is not required, however this workflow is more complicated than using dbz, thus not recommended.
