This was successfully ported to Daz Studio 2026.
Bluejaunte, I can't even begin to tell you how useful this has been ever since I got it. It's done away with so many pain points in Studio it should come with an anesthesiologist's prescription. Seriously, great job, this is an amazing addition to the workflow.
I've gotten so used to it that about the only complaint I have is that I've made far too many shelves to browse them at a glance. If you ever consider making an add-on that allows for multiple rows of shelves, coloring individual tabs, having folders use the same icons that some PAs personalize them with in the product library, or having the ability to populate multiple tabs with different shelves (or any other way you can envision to further speed up browsing)... Well, let's just say that it would not be a day-one purchase, but an attosecond one.
Thank you for this. It's proven invaluable.
Thanks! Glad it helps. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by multiple rows of shelves. Colored tabs sounds like a good idea. Using the PA folder icons would be confusing because not all have them, and there's a better way. Instead of adding folders just add an item inside the folder and then Ctrl-click on it to get back to the folder. With this I don't even use folders anymore to be honest.
I've been using Shelf and it's been working well, very useful. But do have a request which would really make things run smoother. Is it possible to have the tabs within Shelf able to have a keyboard shortcut so that being e.g. in your content library and wanting to access items in a particular Shelf tab you can just press the shortcut key and voilà, you're in the tab!
Hmm... interesting idea. Not sure it's doable because in order for an action to be able register a shortcut I need to do this before the plugin loads. But tabs can exist or not, so at least that is not a thing I could set at the time of you creating a tab. I guess I would have to set a few shortcuts beforehand, say tab 1 to 10, but what if you had more... and what if you don't have that many tabs? I'm not sure I can bind something to an action that doesn't exist. Bit of a chicken and egg problem. Tabs can also be reordered, so what happens then? Do shortcuts just correspond to the position, or would a user expect a custom shortcut for a tab remains the same if they reorder it?
Sounds like a bit of a headache
Do you know when we will see the DS2026 version?
The SDK isn't finalised yet, as far as I know.
No clue whatsoever. Could be a long time honestly until they accept submissions simply because the SDK and DS 2026 are still evolving. Once they do accept submissions I foresee a pretty nasty queue as well because QA suddenly has to get through a tidal wave of plugins.
Thanks to both of you for the update.
Oh, well. It's just that the now not working so well "VisualMenus" by Bitwelder had that capability and it is so nice to use.
Submitted for DS6.
That is great. Looking forward to it.
>Mentioned in promos and manual.
Who on earth reads manuals... :-P
But the link to the folder works perfect with CTRL
Any idea how to buy you a coffee for that tip without giving buymeacoffee my card data?
But back to the main idea that would make this the tool to "meta-manage all content", to me, at least.
The point in the promo is: "tabs ... become scrollable when there's not enough space"
For ALL my content I need quite some tabs, way more then fit into one line, and scrolling only works up to some point.
So a first request would be to not scroll but have an option to line break the tabs, so that all are visible.
Still, from around 50+ tabs on that would become messy, too.
The perfect solution to me would be to enable another tab line within each tab window, for an hierarchical structure, just like a filesystem tree.
The alternative to the tabline within each window here would be to offer a shelf icon that works as a tab.
If either of these happens, I am fully willing to buy it as a new product.
If it is not clear what I meant, I can create some screenshots to hopefully explain myself better.
Please do not consider this a request but just a suggestion - I fully understand if you have other priorities and keep this "as is". Its a very fine product alraedy.
STOP STOP STOP
DIM has an update for BJ Shelf today. Don't install it if you use DS4. It will remove the plugin from your DS4 installation.
Thanks a lot for the information - would have missed that easily.
Damn. Too late.
I only use DS4 and use the shelf heavily, by perhaps 5 minutes :-/.
Render currently ongoing, so I can just check that in a couple of hours, but that would be a worst case problem.
I could live with shelf not working in DS6 rather then being removed from DS4.
Damn. I hope they get that sorted out fast. BJs Shelf is the one among roughly a hundred addons that I really use and need...
Perhaps I should raise a ticket with DAZ to explain them the error of their ways. But if Bluejaunte is already pursuing it, I am not sure wether it helps or just disturbs work...
Well, I just opened 6 just to look wether it showed up there - and it ain't. No shelf anywhere.
I am extremely happy with this purchase, in fact I had been waiting for such tool already for years!!!
I learnt about the CTRL-Click functionality only here in the forum, thank you so much for bringing this to my attention!
I have a little request for a next version update: working with multiple shelf databases I frequently switch from one to the other. Can't it be made possible to make switching between different databases a little more secure? If I had added items previously and forgot (or was interrupted by real life nonsense :-)) to export the altered database, then next time when I import another database I am at risk losing my latest changes. So, if changing databases becomes a frequently used feature (which I strongly recommend to do) then the import functionality should automatically first update the currently loaded database (remembering the database filename which was last loaded), and only then delete it and replace it with the new desired database?
Thank you so much for developing this most needed tool to finally recover control over my huge asset collection!!!
I only found the warning when I came here looking for a solution... If someone is interested, at least I got it working on v6.
First, I looked into the Plugins list in the Help menu (see image) to find this path: C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\plugins (yours may be different). Then I copied dsp_BJ_SelectionHistory.dll and dsp_BJ_Shelf.dll to C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio6\plugins (again, your path may be different). I now have a Shelf in v6 (which I am not using, ironically, for the lack of support for the plugins and scripts I use in v4). It is empty, but it is there.
I guess that, if anyone is lucky enough to find a backup of these dlls, they can copy the files to v4's plugin directory to get Shelf working again in v4.
It bluejaunte could put the v4 files here, it would be amazing! The v6 files are from May. I hope we won't have to go two months without the plugin.
Apparently this plugin update is only for DS 6... but since the package has the very same SKU + seq. number as DS 4 version, the package should've included the plugin files for DS 4 and new DS 6... Using such a package to only install the plugin for DS 6 is really not a good way ~~ or at least name it as IM00112555-02_BJShelfPlugin.zip or something ...
Besides, the folder structure as well as the Manifest file are set up for DS 4 rather than DS 6 ! If a user still keeps the manifest file for DS 4, the package will firstly uninstall the DS 4's plugin and install this DS 6 plugin ONLY into DS 4's plugin folder.
I usually don't install plugin products via DIM but just dump the files into plugin folder. If you want to use this DS 6 plugin while waiting for the fix, you can extract dsp_BJ_Shelf.dll from the package to: C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio6\plugins It'll work ~
I actually want to use the plugin in DS 4.
However, you are correct, crosswind: the files that DIM is delivering are for DS 6, but are registered as DS 4, which means that neither work because of what you described.
As I explained before, I did get the plugin to work in DS 6; it's just a matter of copying the files from the zip to the correct place in DS 6's plugin directory. But that is not what I want. I'm hoping that someone with a backup of the old DS 4 files could share them. I have looked for them in my other computer, but I didn't have the plugin installed there...
Ah, we're not able to share any product files as it's prohibited in License Agreement.
I believe Daz will fix the package by providing both DLL versions of DS 4 and DS 6. I'm afraid you have to wait for some time ~~
So it seems all that went awry was that the V6 dll got the wrong path?
That seems fixable.
I found an older installation from May 25 and replaced the two V4 dlls. Works like a charm. Thanks a lot.
I wish I'd been so lucky. Perhaps the PA themselves could put the files here, if the definitive solution will take as long as we are afraid it will. I have had that level of support from another PA before.
I don't think it is fair to make this the user's fault.
It's no more fair to make it the PA's fault.
