What actually IS new in DAZ Studio 6?

I see there's an AI chatbot, optimization improvements, and real-time dynamic hair editing that no one will use. ;) Can we try to collect and list any feature improvements here or at least somewhere where others can find them? Are there any new animation tools, are vector displacements supported, are there new shaders or Iray features? Sometimes useful features go unnoticed by many, and hopefully we can avoid that.

The main viewport is still as unrespondsive as in the BETAs before.
(I have been pretty mad about DIM, not letting me have my exact installation path, but now I'm glad about it, because I could keep the old 4.24 version.)
I don't see anything in DS 6, that is a benefit.
The viewport is a huge problem, I didn't expect it to be so bad.
Right now I don't see any reason to use DS6 as long as you don't have to because of a 5xxxx series card
I for one won't be using DS6. I hate AI chatbots with a foaming passion! Plus I don't run a 50 series GPU. DS4 does everything I need it to.
Try again installing preview update KB5089573 and the newest Nvidia driver 610.47. It fixed the viewport problem at my systems.
realtime dynamic hair editing would be awesome
but
I believe it is just non PA for plebs strandbased editing
I will stick with Carrara
Negative. I had both installed even before installing DS6 and the viewport essentially is unusable.
Will DS 6 remain free, or is Daz planning a subscription system? After all, they write that you can download the program and try it for free. What comes after the trial period? Has anyone found any limitations?
Yeah I would like to know if there any improvements to animation or any improvements to the Filament engine. I will probably just stay with DS 4.24 until that happens. I really don't want the Victoria AI component at all. Not sure why they felt the need to include that since AI is so divisive, so they are instantly going to piss off at least half of the user base for an unecessary gimmick.
Has anyone tried the chatbot yet? I haven't had a chance to install DS6 yet, but I wonder if it can do useful things like find a specific product or item for you or zero a figure just by asking. Hopefully it's not just for answering basic questions.
EDIT: I was able to install it quickly and tried it out. The chatbot is only for help, it can't perform any functions in Studio itself.
It seems underwhelming after we've waited something like 10 years for this. You'd think they could have implemented Zbrush and Vue into it in that amount of time, and we get a chatbot. :| I hope there's more to it than what I'm currently seeing.
EDIT: It sure doesn't look like there's much else. This is definitely not going to pull me back from using AI more.
According to the blurb in the email we get:
✓ Faster scene loading
✓ Improved responsiveness during loading
✓ Spend less time waiting to create
And these things are SO important, we get them listed each time under all of these headings:
It seems to me like Daz 6 is something else that's been rushed out without any thought, hype and without half of Daz knowing about it and so everybody is rushing around trying to catch up
Oh, I can hear the prophecies of the old and wise Computer pioneers:
"Do not change a working system!"
Definitely looks like their marketing team dropped the ball on the email's proofreading. Every single point has the same 3 sub-points... Legit.
It works like DS4: it's free, and you have access to more features with a premier membership.
Filament engine is now available for Mac too, beside that I don't know.
Gave it a try as I have been using the alpha-beta-whatever since I got my 5080. Not seeing anything new per se other than the AI thing... and many new bugs and crashes (volumetrics kill it completely, dForce works fine one moment, and the next everything deforms into butter for no real reason)
DS6 can't find certain morph files for one of my custom figures so it loads looking like the base g8.1 figure (its a g3 character converted to g8.1, another figure done exactly the same way loads no problem so???), I checked the folders its looking for and they do not exist, however the scene still loads fine in 4.x; I havent checked the morph locations there yet since I dont get the load error. I tried clearing the dson cache as suggested by the internets but no effect.
The best value of Daz 6 is that it can Render on 5xxx GPUs. Scenes load in slightly faster. The rest isn't useful to me. The AI is flat out wrong on almost every question I've ever asked it, so I just don't use it. It's not "embedded" - you can add it as a tab or whatever if you want, but it's not something you're forced to use.
For any kind of complex scene, I'm still setting up in 4.24 and only using 6 to render with my 5xxx GPU because viewport performance is poor in 6 for anything bigger than a room with 1-2 people and a few objects.
The AI wasn't in the beta. I'm extremely disappointed then had any engineer spend a millisecond working on that.
Hopefully, this is coming as I can think of a million tedious, monotonous tasks in DS that an AI assistant would be suited for and could speed up. Acting as a content library assistant is certainly one that would seem like a good fit, to me.

Won't be using it unless I can disable the AI stuff. All that stuff does is hog system resources and enable spying.
How are your content directories setup? DS6 is a separate install with its own settings, so if you had custom directories in DS4 you might need to set DS6 preferences so it can find your content.
I surely must be missing something fundamental here, because there's no way Daz Studio 6 can actually be this bad.
I'm running a 3090 with the most up-to-date studio drivers, and with just the base G8 Starter figure loaded in, Daz literally chugs when simply trying to rotate the camera in Iray Preview mode. And rendering images seems to be... maybe a 25 or 30% slower?
And this Ai "Assistant" can't even answer the most basic questions correctly.
It actually was in Beta - you had to go to Windows->Panes to find it though.
The AI assistant, Victoria, has been on the DAZ website for quite awhile. I find she answers me questions quite often and throughly. Fast as well. It actually surprised me. Don't let your disdain for AI sway your analysis. It also holds tru the usefulness depends on your skill level using DS. Also, I am no fan of AI.
Does IT work offline? Or does IT need Internet access to work?
I've only used it via the DAZ website, so that's online. I'm not going install the new 6, at least for awhile until I see how people feel about it. if it breaks a lot of my purchased plugins and scripts, i will just stick with 4
Im curious how good is Carrara for hair making?
Yeah ran into the viewport issue, I loaded a file I did in Daz Studio 4 in Daz Studio 6 and yeah the viewport is so laggy that it is unusable. But in Daz Studio 4 I have no issue with the viewport, so I have to wonder what they did in DS 6 to make the viewport so bad.
it has dynamic hair, but it's for Carrara
you can actually convert it to mesh and export it as an obj using a plugin by Philemo but thats just a static prop
I am a Carrara user which is why I made my comment
Poser too has dynamic hair BTW but the obj exporter for that was on sharecg so you are probably out of luck there
of course Blender too does dynamic particle hair that can also be converted to mesh
the bottom line is DAZ studio only has static strandbased hair creation
all dynamic strandbased hair has to be made by Premier Artists who have an extra plugin
and 6 isn't changing that
How hard is it to become a PA anyway? Its kind of annoying that you have to be PA to get your hands on some of the good features man.
