For now there are no new features in DS6 that would be incompatible with DS4, so you shouldn't have any problem.
That woulkd be down to differnt path settinmgs, and could happen between DS 4 release channels or between DS 4 on two different systems with shared content drives.
Did a little testing for speed and responsiveness and I had to keep checking what version I was using because I saw virtually no change at all. The biggest difference was I loaded 4 HD Genesis 9 figures about 10 seconds faster with DS6. The viewport responsiveness came down to preference. Using Iray in DS4, I can see my character the entire time I move it around the scene, but it gets pixellated as you would expect. With DS6 the character would "pop" to new positions without the pixellation. I didn't like that, I want to see the travel. But regardless, moving the G9 characters around the scene with pixelation, or having the G9 pop to the new location rendered out, took about the same amount of time. I could not get my Premier plugins to show up so I used the AI and I can see where that might come in handy. But after giving me quite a bit of very detailed direction to get my Geometry Sculptor working, the AI told me it wasn't available to DS6 at this time. Just my personal experience I thought I would share. Nothing more, nothing less.
So, you are saying this is forced subscription migration through planned technical obsolescence? It certainly feels like it at the moment, and I do not care for it and I am not going along with it.
I’ve had it. This is the most anti-consumer stunt that has been pulled during my time here. I am not against paying for an upgrade (within reason), but if we want to keep using a utility tool we already bought and paid for in a modern version of the software, and we have to rent it back indefinitely, the message I am receiving as a Daz customer is: "We are perfectly fine with gaming vendor lock-in on you until you break." Well, guess what...
I genuinely still hope there will be an option for a standalone upgrade path, but I realistically understand that since Daz bought the tool, the chances of that are very low indeed. Until that time, there are options out there where a corporation cannot suddenly decide to rent my own tools back to me. I am out.
What cuts the deepest is that Daz truly has one of the nicest communities, yet the company does not seem to nurture them. I will definitely miss some folks, but the sunk-cost fallacy seems to have a breaking point somewhere, and I have reached mine. And I just bought a new Nvidia card (yes, in this market) specifically for Daz. I feel I may have been loyal well beyond reason in the past.
Well, at least I won't have to be at Nvidia's mercy either next time I upgrade. Lesson truly well learned.
How do we activate Victoria, the AI assistant?
I looked all over and couldn't see any hints.
The AI is a Pane like Render Settings or Posing. Add the pane into your layout to use it.
OK, thanks.
Now I need to hookup speakers and a microphone to check her out. I might just decide to tease Victoria.
It can be used via plain text - it's the same AI assistant as on the web pages.
I haven't used AI at all, yet.
Well I did, once, briefly. I had started my new web site, and got confused.
I asked AI to do something, and the result was laughable. I created the site from scratch by myself.
I haven't had sound on my DAZ Studio computer because things get complicated.
My TV has a bluetooth transmitter that allows me to have a soundbar near my recliner., No cables running across the room.
I also have a bluetooth headset that I can use to watch tv as well.
Anytime I try to connect anything else, things get confused. But I'm already confused.
So maybe I'll connect sound to my DAZ Studio computer. Just so i can harass Victoria.
Thank you for the discussion, everyone. It made me realize that Daz 6 is not right for me at this time.
Well... the only thing remarkably new (apart from the A"I" bot) is the RTX 50 support. And regarding the render times, with a RTX 4070 Super, I can relate that I can render faster and in a more stable way than in 4.24.
The ability to mix drawstyles (using the Universal mode) and to work on stand-based hair with the figure posed and other scene elements visible are also pretty useful. Speed is also welcome for most users.
Yes, as a Carrara user wanting faster DS renders using iRay for background images on the new nVidia GPU's, this is the point. Can you provide more on the stability? DS 4.24 has been fairly stable for me. Thanks.
Ive been away from Daz for a while, came back to find DS 6 available. It came with a chatbot that i can ignore thankfully but i noticed one glaring issue for me....the mesh grabber (now geometry sculptor) is now conviently a premier only feature. Out of all the tools to paywall they chose this one integral to many of my models. Decided to uninstall 6 and stick with the older version, they can kiss my ass if they think imma pay $20 a month to use a single tool.
Do you have any comparison data?
Until recently I've been using a 4070 Super and have just backwards-upgraded to a 3080Ti for the extra CUDA cores (with a second 3080Ti waiting for install). I'm still on 4.24 but would appreciate knowing what the speed and stability improvements actually are.
I like the new daz3D, I believe it starts and renders a bit faster. However, all that is currently getting flushed down the toilet since it crashes like once or twice every hour instead...
Edit: After some more testing it seems like maybe it was the scene that just broke on Daz3d 6 and not the old one. Set up a new and now it works, and after testing the old again, I noticed how much better the new one is, everything is fast, the view port actually has settings that work. A welcome upgrade.
where in the setting is the color(s) setting for the interface? want to return to the daz4 colors.
If you mean this, it's under Window - Style - Select Style
it looks like i don't mean that. example when rendering the process bar was yellow it is now gray/black. when trying to select the Y on the universal tool the color change is too close to the tools Y color. any other ideas??
You can change the colors of the X, Y and Z axes of the selection tools or the posing dials if you go to Window > Style > Customize Style, there's a section called "3D Axis" you can tweak axis colors there
what about the progress bar that is now gray/black instead of daz3d 4 yellow?
what about changing the selection color instead of the axis color(s). daz3d 6 changed the selection color.
If you go to Windows - Style - Select Style (like hejjj12 suggested), you should get a dialog box where you can select your style. In the first dropdown box choose Style: Darkside and in the second, choose Default. It will put it back to the light grey theme.
same scene ..... dark being darkside
Not trying to start a conspiricy theory or anything here, but has anyone else noticed Daz 4 has been running kinda poorly since the intro of 6? I'm getting major slowdown in responsiveness while working on scenes half the time.
DS 4 hasn't chnaged, though I have not used it much since my new system has a 50x0 series card. Any chnage may be attributable to a driver update or other system update.
New is, that it consistantly refuses to install on my Mac (M5 24 Gb RAM, 1 Gb of drive 2 x T7 2 Gb, OS version 26.5.2). Had to remove DAZ since it's Postgress database lost contact with the DAZ install and was causing my T7 to overheat trying to regain it. So byebye DAZ for now. Maybe stop Mac support alltogether, without iRay DAZ 3D has no reason to exist on the Mac, anyway.
Greets.
Have a look at https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/731016/the-new-mac-faq#latest , especially the sections on relatively recent security changes. If none of that helps then plase post to that thread.
