dish ran away with the spoon. and stole the cake
sleepy tutts
sleepy too. my head is spinning for some reason cant fathom
...doesn't take long to get over it. My Telly blew up over 12 years ago and I really don't miss it anymore.
Saves me a bundle not having to deal with Cable or Satellite bills.
..for me, it's this:
Nice and peaty, and yes, not inexpensive.
But if money is no object there is this. (aged since 1906 - actually 109 years old now):
...only 1,400,000$ per bottle.
...OK have a question about hardware diagnostic utilities. I there anything available for monitoring hard drive performance?
Lately after turning the workstation on I notice the HDD light is on and steady for a long time (like hours long) The system is not connected to the Net so it's not "phoning home" or downloading anything. I checked Task Manger and I don't see any process that is running either in foreground or background which would be causing this.
Hey, KK. Spinrite. From Gibson Research. Not free, but worth every penny.
..no free ones then, too broke to afford 89$. This is really bothering me.
Yeah, we've been meaning to tell you that Steve Martin is really NOT a dentist. And he got eaten by Seymour anyway.
Yeah, I know. But that $89 just may save you having to buy a new hard drive. And then another one. And another. No matter how cheap you are buying hard drives, eventually Spinrite pays for itself. Truth.
..really am too broke. In the midst of a Social Security Disability claim appeal and have to scrape by on what little I have.
Are there any free utilities at all similar to CPU-Z or GPU-Z so I can at least get an idea of what might be hammering the drive so much?
...I'm wondering if it it might not be the AV or Windows. As I am not connected to the Net it probably cannot run certain diagnostics or in the case of Windows is not able to check if there are updates available so it keeps looking for a connection that isn't there. I would think though there would be some sort of message that it was unsuccessful.
When I try to stop the AV service in Task Manager it spits back,"The operation could not be completed." Not sure it would be a good idea to close the process for the AV in the Processes tab.
There also are about a dozen "svchost.exe" operations listed in the Processes window. Usually there are only a few unless the AV is running a scan.
I may be able to configure and build a system, but when it comes to this kinds oif stuff I am like a blind person in a labyrinth.
I am able to open and run programmes, though I have to wait on everything and on occasion get the dreaded "not responding" message for a few moments. Once a programme opens it works fine with no perceptible lag. This to me says it's some sort of process that is causing this and not an issue with the drive itself. Also whenever I shut the system down it displays a message for a few moments saying windows can't shut down because a programme or process is still running.

I forgot a charging cord and my cup at home. Oh no
I have been using Hard Disk Sentinel on my computer. I got it for free from bitsdujour last year. It monitors health, temperature, how many days it has run, estimates how many days of use left, how many starts it has done. They let you download it to try it. The trial version doesn't do the user-started extended self test with repair option. But, at least you can get an idea of the drive's health. The Standard version is only about $24.

I am no geek squad alum, however I do notice when svchost is running, especially in herds the HD works overtime. Apparently there is a rootkit out there that is the cause, See quote below from answers.microsoft.com
Didn't you say you'd somehow picked up a nasty a while back?
FIRE ALIENS!!!

Demo over.. seemed to go OK.
Back to work as normal.
This weekend.. time for a new wallet, mine is over 8 years old and is dying. Walmart time!
Also, will be out exploring after wallet purchase! I want to visit this place called Casino El Camino again, it's weird but fun!
...is this something that comes with WIn 7? I'm afraid if I DL it I'll get the one for XP as the notebook is the only system I have to get online with.
...not on the Workstation. That was with the Notebook and on the old drive that died back in '09 Ran a MawareBytes scan last night and no items were found.
gahhh. >.<
the Johnny Blue by me is 189.00. hard be grateful for a new year without it. it doesnt burn my throat goin down, one sip feel the warmth from toes to ears lol
cybertenko sale at rmp. kewl stuff, but i haz to finish christmas shopping first. bah humbug lol
dentist bill from yesterday, another 280. >.<
he wants to extract 2 teeth (broken :( ) and make crowns for 2. i was like, whats a crown. he files tooth down to a peg, then super glue crown thingee. i told him will wait for hurting before making decisions. broke tooths still serviceable and in back, dont show.
buppies still luv me even without pretty teeth.
it was all too much for Ruby Rod at the end.
multee pass
I've had rootkit infections. Malwarebytes doesn't detect them. They can live in completely innocuous hosts, like JPGs, PDFs, and program updates. That's the limit of my knowledge. My infected computer died of other causes (mostly old age) before I got it completely cleaned out.
I wanted to visit a different mall today but too sleepy.
I forgot to cancel Microsoft music subscription so I have it for another month it seems.
Morning. Warm night giving over to hot day with just a teasing breeze to cool tempers on the clagged-up freeway, or maybe not there is much honking coming from around a bend, hunkered down in the back seat of a taxi with a Bollywood song and dance number blaring from the substantial stereo system iz hard to tell what's going on, except nothing has moved for the past five minutes or so :)
all it does is report on the status of services so as far as I know it should work for xp forward :)
...yeah I have that to look forward to in about three months. A couple extractions of broken ones one filling, and then an impression for an upper partial. However, will finally be rid of the "Hockey Goalie" smile.
..hmm, I have Sophos, Wonder if that will find and deal with them. Means not being able to use the workstation for quite a while as it is rather thorough.
...
Is like an alien invasion ! Four dead overnight in the WA fires, the whole southwest is as dry as a bone Am expecting callouts to support the local volunteer brigades over Christmas, last year was cooler and started much quieter.
...sounds like the California and the Northwest here this past summer. One of the worst fire seasons we've had in a long time. A good portion of Oregon was on fire save for the cast and Willamette valley.
