RRRR - Murphy’s Law

This time we run another themed contest, and the theme is Murphy’s Law. There are many sources to the laws of Murphy on the web and if you don't find a suitable law, make one up.

Wikipedia:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murphy's_law

List of many laws: http://www.murphys-laws.com

For all who have no clue what the RRRR is, it stands for “Random Runtime Roulette Renders”.

Who can play?

Anyone can play!

How do you prepare yourself for play?

The rules are very simple, but first you need to have all your items in some kind of order in a text file, dumped from the itemized history into a text file or a spread sheet. Remove things like software, gift certs, and special plugins from the list.
Then you use a randomizer to randomly pick 4 items from your list (your Runtime/My Library). You can use items from any store.

Lucky Bastard Rule!
If you have sticky lucky bastards, you pull one extra item for each LB you have, simple as that.

Lucky Bastard standings

Luci45: 5 LB
Totte: 3 LB
Barbult: 2 LB
Dumor3D: 2 LB
Sasje: 1 LB
Jim: 1 LB

Randomizer that works well:random.org
Randomizer where you get all numbers in one draw:All at once

There are some situations where you allowed to redraw, these are:

- You picked something that doesn’t work, broken thing, only works in a version / software not used etc etc.

- You picked a software or add-on to a software or anything you should have filtered out from the list.

- You picked only huge environment props and will not be able to render a scene without crashing.

- You picked an item you already have been using in two RRRR renders in this content and that was picked randomly. Three is a curse - rule!

Bundles

If you pull a bundle, use two three complete items from it, or more if you like, but you do not need to use all, but only picking a hairpin from V4 Complete Bundle is “too little”. Clarification: A bundle still counts as only one pulled item.

Poses, Expressions and textures/colors
If you pull a pose pack, an expression pack or a texture/color pack, you only need to use one of them, not all. For example if you pull 500 expressions for V4, use one, if you pull 128 colors for Frappe Hair, use one.

The rules of madness!

Now you have successfully and randomly picked your items, make a scene, you can add other items as well but the one you picked should be prominent or cleverly used. Render it, post it and make us all laugh! Remember though that the renders must follow the TOS of the forum. As we have a theme on the contest, the render should in some way touch that theme.

The contest categories!

There are two categories, Funniest and Best, you get it. A fun render might maybe not be a super great render but will cause the viewer to fall of the chair laughing.

Contest duration!

It stats now at November 15 2015, and will go on until Sunday January 10 2016 at 23:59:59 local DAZ time.

Yes, we have prizes, thanks to our sponsors!
This months sponsors so far:

Totte is sponsoring with one item from his store.
Barbult is sponsoring with $20 DAZ GCs.
Ken OBanion is sponsoring wtih $100 DAZ GCs.
Dumor3D is sponsoring with one item in each tier from his store.
Luci is sponsoring with $30 DAZ GCs.
diomede is sponsoring with $10 DAZ GCs.
Karibou is sponsoring with $20 DAZ GCs.
FirstBastion offers 2 product choices from his store for the 2nd place in the best category, (bundles excluded). To be in theme with the theme, second mouse gets the cheese.

I hope we can attract some more sponsors.
Sponsors may of course participate in the contest, their own decision. As Ken O Bannion so elegantly put it, sponsors play for keeps.

If you want to sponsor this RRRR, send me a PM or post in the thread!

More to know?

I will edit this when new info on sponsors arrive.

Maximum number of entries?

Yes, this time we limit the number of entries per person to eight seven ten  nine, nine is the holy number for this contest.

Are you ready to render in 3….2….1…..go!

Entries!
Post your entries here together with your pull and your comments, and feel free to comment on other peoples work as well.
We post images in the Entries only thread with tag and name. We also post the entries in this thread with a full list of the randomly picked items and also, which is a free choice, other used items.

I hope this counts as a Murphy's Law because this is what came to mind.  For such an old model, that hydra rendered out pretty well.    By the way, does anyone know how to change the format of your post so the lines aren't so far apart.  I haven't been able to figure it out.

    Pull #1:

     681 Dragon Bridge

Title: When You're Trying to Impress Someone...

It never fails.  When you are taking a prestigious member of society on an extensive tour of your estate, the neighbor's pet will choose that moment to scatter your garbage around.

Edit:  Okay, didn't mean to put the picture first - my first time trying to do this in the latest forum.  Obviously I haven't mastered this yet.  Sorry about the weird layout.  Maybe I'll get it right in the entries thread.

Edit #2:  Okay, figured out what I did wrong, please disregard the previous edit!

    Thank you gopherus and Luci.

@ gopherus - I love the perspective on your first one.  Years ago I ordered something in the mail and at the top of the instruction manual in very large letters was "If all else fails, read the directions."  I thought it was pretty funny.  Seems like this lady could have benefitted from that!

I have to work all weekend but I'll post my second pull anyway.

    Pull #2:

     617 - Bandstand

    1393 - Valentine Candy

    1726 - Miss Kitty's

     535 - Hammer Tail Dragon

Seemed pretty straightforward until the dragon popped up.  :)

I've never done one of these and it looks like fun. I have two rules questions:

    1) Since it's specifically a rendering event/contest, should I assume no postwork/compositing is allowed? Would a triptych be allowed?

    2) I don't know a good way to get a list of my installed products. Using directories seems bad, and even restricting to directories under "libraries" isn't right. Would ranomzing to pages in my Daz account Product List and randomizing within that page (rerolling items that should have been eliminated) be sufficient? I know it isn't perfectly linear (unless my eligible product count is a multiple of 40), but it should be close. That removes non-Daz store items, if that matters.

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

I can at least tell you an answer to your second question:

Open your DIM, selct the tab with the installed files, select all products then right click with your mous and choose Export to csv. Creates you a file that you can easly turn into an excel or any other program of the kind. Then begins the sorting out of files that you actually don't use like textures you don't have the original product for an the like (I remove al Iray as my mashine is way to slow for that to be fun). With the random generator links at the top you can get numbers generated from the list you made.

Have fun but be warned, rrrr can be addictious, cause serious fits of crazy laughter and sights that burn into the memory... ;-)

Postwork is allowed and compositing too, as long as the items are there (which makes it hard in the first place ;-)

This IS the tricky part, as Linwelly said (there is an .csv export from DIM that you can use, or you start there, then add your other stuff as time goes by!

    Welcome to the madness!

I've never done one of these and it looks like fun. I have two rules questions:

    1) Since it's specifically a rendering event/contest, should I assume no postwork/compositing is allowed? Would a triptych be allowed?

Postwork is allowed and compositing too, as long as the items are there (which makes it hard in the first place ;-)

This IS the tricky part, as Linwelly said (there is an .csv export from DIM that you can use, or you start there, then add your other stuff as time goes by!

What Totte said (especially about the madness!)

I have my own method of putting together an "inventory":

I go to my Product Library page, and start copying and pasting every item from the list on the left side of the page, then paste that into a spreadsheet.  Repeat as necessary.  (In my case, it was 'necessary' a total of 132 more times; yeah, I have a lot of stuff!  And when I play in the RRRR contests, I only use DAZ products; tracking down all the stuff I've gotten from Runtime DNA, Renderosity, Content Paradise, (cough) Renderotica (cough-cough), or freebie sites like ShareCG, is just too much of a pain in the never-mind-precisely-where!  And, of course, I couldn't use the Renderotica stuff in any case!)

Also, when I paste, I use the 'Use source formatting' option; that way it retains the URL to the library page, in case I need to be reminded of just what it is that I got.  (It doesn't tell me why I got it, though, and that always turns out to be the Sixty-Four Dollar question!  Well, either that or, 'What the hell was I thinking!?')

The last inventory update/refresh using that method took me about four, maybe five, hours.  Your mileage may vary.

    Have fun, and good luck!

So, is randomly picking a product library page, randomly selecting one on the page, would that be acceptible? All the other stuff seems excructiatingly tedious.

Actually, there are a number of regular participants in previous RRRRs who did it exactly that way: get a random number from 1 to the last page of your Content Library (inclusive), then a number from 1 to 40 (the number of items per page), and there's your item.

Alternatively, you could churn out the random numbers, then divide each by 40 and then add 1 (that would be the page), then take the modulus of the same division (which would be the item on that page).

    We're a creative bunch here in RRRR-land!

EDIT: If the random number turns out to be less than forty, then the page would be 0, and that wouldn't work.  I know, I totally suck at math; that's why I'm a seven-time college drop-out!

Maybe you don't suck. You said "and then add 1 (that would be the page)", so a random number less that 40 would be page 0+1=1, not 0.

Um, actually that "...and then add 1..." was the edit; the original post was incorrect, so I made the change, assuming that somebody might have read it before I went back in to make the correction.

So, I stand by my assessment; I cosmically suck at math.  And apparently, I pretty much suck at exposition, too.  I really should have explained that: what I changed, and why.

Late as usual to the party - but in my defence I'm in the middle of rebuilding my entire Content Libraries. (They'd progressed from untidy to mess) So I'm not ready for my first pull yet. But I don't want to be pages behind so here goes...

@emsim #1 - great idea - those hydra just have no sense of timing.
@Gopherus #1 - ooh, clever! But strange: it's usually the men (blond or not) who don't read the manual in my experience?
@Luci45 #1 - ah, you've arrived with all guns blazing and so has she! Nice response to the (customary) massive pull!
@Totte #1 - oops, I hope it wasn't too valuable! Neat use of the extra building props.
