No idea how diligently I shall play the stars game. I did end up with a nice result on my $6 DO coupon today

Thank you for reminding me about the member coupons! I totally forgot I could use them, so I think I'll go ahead and get Sophia today. I suppose that puts me in the star game too, but like you, I might not play it too diligently.

I took some time to check out the Madness Weekend sale.

The good news was that I could save a lot on some highly-desired items in my wishlistd.

The bad news is the lack of funds.

I'll bet there will be some good deals in March!

I grabbed an outlet hair yesterday just to get a star

but even so, there was nothing today I particularly wanted

debating whether to grab another outlet thing today for 2 stars

its all a bit FOMO and I still have my $6 off $18 coupon to use

the outlet hair OK, for G9 so not wasted but

Genuine question, @daveso -- I get that your're feeling disillusioned, but is there a particular point to disparaging what the rest of us here are (presumably) still finding fun (to one extent or another)? If you feel the need to move on, that's understandable -- interests come and go. And there can be an emotional process involved in letting stuff go. But it kinda feels like you're pooping in everyone else's cornflakes.

I gotcha, why don't I blow off. i apologize. You all Enjoy your time here. Yeah, I have some emotional connection to this site, why I don't know, other than my beginnings in 3DCG, over 25 years ago,  but it is gone now.   I shall say no more.

So I get both of these comments. Sometimes I rant too. Say things because I could use a better filter. Say things because it's honestly how I feel. I sort of felt day one was blah. I ha

Edit HA! DAZ knew my thoughts  and cut me off lol! So . . .  to continue I spent $130.54 5 days before and $100.01 4 days prior. Yet no star for me. I guess I should have not spent those dollars and spent 1.99 on those dyays and the next day and the next and whippie I would get a star for saving $224.00 dollars in 5 days! But. we get over it and we lick our wounds and sulk in a corner for awhile and come out to play again. It's simply disappointment. And feeling disappointed is okay. We all have those moments where we say something inappropriate be it from too much wine or too much stress or because our pets are dying, and these personal burdens sometimes make things seem worst than they are. But often those thoughts do stem from a truth.

So I simply bought 1 item from my wishlist, for $2+ bucks and I even figured out a formula LOL Buy, buy, don't buy, buy, buy, don't buy, buy. buy. don't buy. But if something yanks my chain I will buy on a no buy day. If nothing interests me I will do the formula because I know (for me)  March Madness will be a roller coaster worth riding and when I do buy, I want the biggest discount I can get. Why, if not happy, renew Premier for March Madness? I simply paid DAZ+ 8.99.  The thing is I never look back and say why. And I suspect that is why others are saying move on. If you have to look back and say why that is a clear indicator that something is over and these move-on comments are a simple helpful truth, But if you can look at the why and say because . . . , AND that because makes you smile, even if that because is not happening yet, that is an indicator that it is a good thing and moving on may be a bad thing.  So the real question is why? And in there lies the answer to what one should do.

daveso, take it from one who's been there and back.

Sometimes it's good to catch your breath and let go.

I've caught myself being a bit too emotionally invested during some of these sales.

Fortunately, I don't need much of a prod to settle myself down.

By the way, I'm another old timer. I've been around since DAZ was known as Zygote.

well my FOMO did pay off

bought 4 DAZ+ things I wanted with the $6 off $18 coupon yesterday

amd my subsequent gold star let me by Stoney"s gates for $7 with STILL-SIMPLE

I cannot afford to buy something everyday though

so unless there a single day deals occasionally

    I won't be accumulating starts

Did you made a better deal now than when it was in the outlet store for a couple months (May 18th to September 1st) last year? wink

Right now only four of my wishlisted items got any mentionable price reduction. And I've got quite a few old(er) items in that list. But even that price reduction left them at a price that was higher than in several sales before today, when I already passed on buying them due to more interested products.

The curse of limited funds, that makes you really, really, REALLY check prices and compare them to "do I need that product?"

EZFinder - Advanced Content Manager for Daz Studio looks like an interesting product; but WOW the base price is really, really high. Yeh, I know I can use the coupon to get it for $5 but what happens after the coupon is no longer working.?  Will anybody ever buy it?

  • Well, I had to have it for $5. But yeah. I was just going to WL it and forget it. Maybe it solves the annoying content management problem and I can stop keeping lists.

Would love to hear when anyone tries it. There's no info on the publisher and no demo video, and the app appears to have some depth of function - but not self explanatory from the provided screenshots (imo). It strikes me as a vibe coded thing.

Not sure if this is their youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/@EZ3DTV

I bought EZFinder to see if it can help me keep track of stuff I either forgot I had or help to bookmark for current/future projects. Up until now, I've been using ManFriday's Turbo Content but support for that was left dead in a ditch some time ago.

So far, EZFinder's 'initial scan' of my Daz folder has been going for almost 2 hours with no end in sight. The manual mentions "Ideal for SSD/M.2 drives (HDD not recommended)", so I think I might no be the audience for this one.

On the subject of the manual, it doesn't have screenshots of the app so beware the wall of text.

Yes, that is their YouTube channel, and on their live tab he has tons of videos on this product showing how to use it, going back 6 months. So this thing was not slapped together overnight with AI coding. He's been testing it extensively and teaching people about it for a long time.

Yes, fortuitous promotion for us, or bad timing for the PA? Or was it foreseen as a way to kickstart the product? Hard to imagine it was intended this way.

    Good to note, thanks!

I did end up speed-watching some of the publisher's youtube videos:

    • The app seems to operate on your installed content libraries. i.e. you can point it at your current Daz Studio installation as-is.
    • There's an asset browser window with search, sort, paging controls. Similar to how the Daz Shop shows product listings. I think you do all your asset rummaging through that.
    • There's the concept of "virtual folders" which are links you can click to change what's shown in the asset browser. Virtual folders seem flexible like predefined lists of assets, custom collections of assets, saved searches, whatever. A virtual folder seems to respresent a subset of assets, similar to how the Daz Shop shows filtered results.

    Example use case:

    • It appears you could search for assets matching "cat" and browse the pages to find a duf of interest (say, a duf from the "Daz House Cat with dForce Hair" product)
    • Then a secondary search feature can automatically scan for all dufs from the same product and populate the asset browser window with the results.
    • In the end you'd see all the thumbnails from the "Daz House Cat with dForce Hair" product, but without manually digging around in endless Content Library subfolders.

It can probably do more than that, but just that functionality is worth $5 to me (with the SIMPLE-NEW code). Just picked it up and will try it asap.

Yes, it scanned my library in a couple of minutes. My Daz 3D Library is 208 GB.  I do have an SSD though, so maybe that's why it was so fast.  And I am finding things that are there that do not show up in Daz Studio's Smart Content.  Like for Madison 9 it found a "baked gens" and "smile crease" on and off toggles that I can't find anywhere in Daz Studio

It also seems it can populate the browser window on demand with all the dufs from any combination of products and authors, eg if I wanted to view all my Stonemason + Alchemist + E-Arkham products at once for kitbashing (and save that search for later).

The virtual folders thing seems powerful to organize various themes or content types, like all iray metal shaders in a list, or making a kit for old content that I found tremendously disorganized like "Furries for Melody and Micah" and all their add ons and accessories.

I'm at work currently but am giddy to play with this soon. :)

I think having an SSD is a requirement - I have a large library on an HDD and searching/filtering was very slow. I ended up returning it but I can see it being useful to those with smaller libraries (or faster hardware).

It looks like it's Windows-only. I risked the five bucks and installed it via DIM. It installed normally and appeared in my Smart Content. When I ran the script, Parallels immediately launched. That was the end of my Mac experience with the product. I haven't decided if I want to do the Windows-on-one-screen-Mac-on-the-other dance every time I fire up Daz Studio, which I would have to do if I want to take advantage of this product's organizational capabilities.

I'm leaning toward making do with RiverSoft Art's Content Wizard, which isn't as effortless a solution as EZFinder seems to be.

I downloaded it and it has exe's (Windows binaries). Here are some of the system requirements I found in the readme (which should really be on the product page imo):

    Minimum Requirements

    • Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
    • 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended)
    • SSD or M.2 Storage (HDD not recommended)
    • 550 MB free disk space for program
    • Additional space for JSON files based on library size:
      • Small Library (< 10,000 items): ~50 MB
      • Medium Library (10,000-100,000 items): ~500 MB
      • Large Library (100,000-500,000 items): ~2 GB
      • Very Large Library (500,000+ items): ~5 GB+
    • .NET 9 (included)
    • DAZ Studio 4.x for injection features

The injection features it's talking about are for bringing selected content in the asset organizer app into your active Daz scene.

I don't have a Mac so I can't experiment with alternatives to Parallels. You might try CrossOver or Whisky, which are compatibility layers (ie they help Windows code talk to Mac native code) whereas I think Parallels is a Virtual Machine that runs a full version of Windows. CrossOver/Whisky provide the code translation directly but only IF the Windows app cooperates - from my googling, complex apps don't always work.

and today, I can get Stonemason's latest for 7 USD.
