There is at least a third reason: the Daz store's sales are based on heavy discount and they saw no reason to change how they are operating with Genesis 9.

Possible. However when looking through an Adam Smith set of lenses, it seems deeply irrational to discount something that's selling well, as there will be a revenue maximisation point, and if it's selling well already it's probably close to that point. This applies even if the cost of further production is vanishingly small, though having negligible future production costs does skew the normal price ratios compared to traditional manufacture. So, is Daz a deeply irrational company, or were previous generations failling harder than Genesis 9 because discounts were better in the past (at least according to people complaining about discounts being worse right now)?

Daz may be simply operating under the same mindset today that they were before, which alone doesn't give us enough hindsight on how good or bad the sales are.

If we're quoting dead men, may I suggest Fontenelle? 'Let us be sure of the facts before worrying about the cause.'

    Hmmm.. wild cart recipe

    • 3 new releases from Rell sale
    • 1 valentine special release and 2-3 sweetheart new releases from Weekend mega sale
    • large gift card
    • BOOST-MY-LOVE coupon if not already used
    • 8 tokens

I missed that people were already talking about this combo earlier. It does end up triggering a 39% gift card discount which normalizes to around 30% after accounting for the buy-ins (and can normalize higher by adding more gift cards). I'm stocked up for March Madness now.

soon enough we will be getting G10 or whatever they decide to call it. Hopefully back to the male and female versions. THEN, the G9 stuff will get a lot cheaper, as will G8. G3 will probably be the items free or near free. I have to say, even though by now I've gooten quite a bit of G9 products, overall I still like G8 a lot more. Even G3.

My favorite is still G8 personally. I'd probably buy into a hypothetical G10 but I'd like to see Daz really focus on quality-first with its design and engineering, rather than content-first.

I think this Valentine's Day sale was great. The discounts on new products were huge, plus some wishlist discounts, and finally, with my coupons, the total discount was about 84% off. I didn't realize I'd already spent $40 before March, but I bought things I really needed, and the discounts weren't bad either. It made my favorite artist earn a little more, which I think is a good deal.

Because there were no digital products in his eralaugh, taking STEAM as an example, new products would not sell well after a period of time, while price reductions could boost sales, which was equivalent to increasing revenue, but without increasing costs.

Regardless, I hope artists have more control over this matter. Whether they raise prices or not, I only have so much money to spend. I can buy ten of my favorite and absolutely necessary items, or I can buy a hundred items that I think are nice but I don't need at all. The latter is definitely more likely to make me overspend.

For the G10, backward compatibility is the most important aspect, allowing us to confidently purchase new and old products without worrying about our assets becoming obsolete. In addition, I hope it will have a better and more responsive physics system, like some games.

Trigger-pull day for the week's QG cart! Nothing else tempting for me, but that's about what I expected given the holdiay. Looking forward to what will be offered in tomorrow's QG rotation... and sincerely hoping Daz doesn't do something political tomorrow for President's Day.

As to G10... I like the unisex base, but ultimately I'm not likely to make the jump, so my opinion is irrelevant. When my D+ runs out in January, that's probably going to be the end of my shopping unless something comes out that fills a gap that's holding me up or there's an outrageously impressive sale on things I would for sure use. TBH it'll be a relief to have the time spent on acquision/cataloging freed up for art.

To clear up a misconception about Premier membership I saw in this thread recently:

There's not a requirement you log in/handshake from Daz Studio with Premier, unless you want to use the exclusive character shapes or tools. I've had Premier off & on since it began and haven't logged in from the program once. I didn't want to deal with characters I'd lose access to and I didn't make as much use of the standalone versions of the tools as I thought I would, so probably wouldn't miss the newer versions. I decided not to activate any of it and just enjoy free bundles and bigger discounts whenever I wanted.

Could that change especially when DS 6, 2025 or whatever Daz ends up naming it goes live? Yes. Then I will decide how to proceed going forward.

    Maybe Tara 9?

The hair is part of her HD Character Bundle, and the picture is the main promo render of the hair:

Well, I'm sitting here, with a few items from QG that have been in my cart since Monday (about which Daz was regularly reminding me via emails), and it's time to check out, but I can't decide whether I want to get Daz+ Stacey Hair for G9. It's cheap, and it looks nice, but I can't think of anything immediate to use it for, so I guess it's just going to go to wishlist now...

Between the issues with the quality of some products (some of which look about as good as AI slop), Daz's policies, and uninspiring new products (uninspiring to me; for someone else this month might be full of great releases), not only I haven't been spending much, but also my wishlist significantly dropped. Usually, it only drops during big sales when I buy more than add to it, but between very few new releases interesting me and being forced to entirely remove some PAs from it, it has shrunk.

I'm not unhappy, though, since I'm happy still using the things I got in the last year's sales. And I'm not spending money, which is good for me. Not so good for Daz, I suppose, because once you switch from "is it cool and do I want it" to "do I really NEED it and can I trust the PA didn't use any AI," it's much easier to not buy.

Of course, for all I know, March Madness might prove me wrong. :D

  • There have been umpteen inconclusive debates on the merits or otherwise of Genesis 9. There is no need for another one, it is almost certainly not going to change anyone's view one way or the other.

So the main page says that you get the extra wishlist discount if the item was in your wishlist prior to 2/15. I put stuff in yesterday, 2/14, and there is no discount. It is NOT new and it shows up on the page of my wishlist. Anyone else have this issue?

That appears to be a typo and should read 2/14:

I apologise is I upset the Premiere folks. Didn't mean to. But when Premiere came out, it hijacked the plug-ins that I already owned and one, Mesh Grabber that I had been waiting on the announced update. That annoyed me no end. If you feel that you are getting your money's worth from the higher price you are charge, go for it. I still prefer DAZ+. I still have my plug-ins. I don't have to rent them.

As for DS6, when I work with it I use a combination of DS4 and DS6 workflow. I expect I will need to do that later.

Yes, the Valentine's gift card sale is still working but the gift card sale in the Harpy/Rell promotion that stacked with it is no longer working; so you can't get as good a discout as you could yesterday.

I tend to go with whatever suits my particular needs.

I hadn't paid attention to DAZ's products for a year or so.

When I returned, I saw Genesis 8 had some wonderful "senior or older" characters. I'm really happy because I decided to pretty much specialize in senior characters.

I live in a Senior community. My many friends just love to see pictures featuring other senior!

I've also found some really great Genesis 9 characters, bundles, themes etc.

My interests include Western stuff, Ichabod Crane, A Christmas Carol, some sci-fi stuff (Warner 9 for example.) and more.

The older plug-ins stil work, in DS 4, but it is true they will not be getting non-Premier DS 6 updates and you won't be able to purchase the ones you didn't buy before they were sold to Daz.

As to the QG and OS.

For the former it would be nice there was a more "balanced" selection as it is often rather "top-heavy" with G9 products. Failing that, in the latter's case, rotation of products is increased more frequently (say every month or two).

In fairness, though, G9 is super scant in the Outlet store. As far as I can discern, QG is meant as a shot at Outlet pricing for products that are generally more recent, but the catch is that you only have a week to pick them up. So having an offering that includes more G8 would disadvantage G9 users even more than they already are, as far as overall percentage between the two sections goes.

...not G8 necessarily as true, those items show up in the OS i nresonable numbers.  What I'm interested in seeing is a more even balance between G9 content and other categories like props, sets, and such in QG.  There have been times that G9 content has almost totally dominated QG.

With the OS it gets to a point I've bought what needed/wanted from there and see little reason to go back anymore until I hear that new products have been rotated in (whch may not happen for months).

Well, for the last few months Outlet has rotated on the first of the month (or near enough) in contrast to that first really long chunk when it was new. Not always a lot of change (judging only by what of my WL comes/goes) though.

I've noticed that a lot of what's in QG (that I'm interested enough to consider, anyway) was in OS at the next highest tier about 5 months ago. So if you got it then, it wouldn't show up. I also wonder what sort of arrangement is involved with it... some PAs seem to turn up a lot, and some not at all. It might be that the ones who focus more on propls and sets haven't opted in. I'd definitely have a lot more use for that stuff than all the offered characters and hairs (or any generation) so I wouldn't mind an increase for my own sake, but I'm sure there are people who would like the opposite, too.

Overall, I feel kinda bad for you folks who have been around (and shopping) forever, as the selection of what's around that you haven't passed by 100 times already has to be slim. I'm lucky in that starting releatively recently and having a finite budget means that I've been around long enough to know what I need/want (or at least, might possibly use) but not long enough to have bought it all yet

that is the problem on the head. When you have so much already, the stuff put out for free or even high discount is stuff I have overlloked sometimes for years. BUT, sometimes it just hits you the right way...depends on where your head is at at the time. For instance, the QG stuff right now does not interest me at all.

@Ron Knights ...the older characters, more "everyday" characters (not just more elves, hunks and supermodels), more cultural diversity, and decent compatibility with G3 (both use the same basic body mesh and UV) are what attracted me to G8.

Also the bundles and products have really gone downhill so I am glad I started shopping years ago. That's when the products were really unique and incredible. It was hard to stay within a budget, hard to choose what to buy and wait to wait for. . .  now it's mighty difficult to spend a budget. It's the lonely cart times.

Yeah, it's pretty much Feast or Famine these days, and these "it's a wishlist sale, but not all of not all YOUR wishlist" promotions are beyond annoying.   There are a lot of days now where I look at the new items and find myself not just unable to justify paying the current prices for what's being shilled, but where I don't even see anything worth wishlisting, let alone buying to activate some discount.  On the other hand, at least they don't flush out the daily sales for several days when they're not running a themed sale like March Madness, so if you wait a few days you may eventually find a few things worth picking up.

Yeah, my basic strategy these days is:

    1. notice that any kind of discount requires a today's release buy-in

    2. notice that there are no releases today that even remotely interest me

    3. close the browser

    4. check back in the afternoon to see if there's a flash sale

    5. notice that the flash sale doesn't spark joy

    6. close the browser

But hey, there's QG every week, so I'm fine with the rest being an easy nope.

...sort of a "wihsy washy" Monday as nothing on my wishlist is in the "WIshy Artists" category so all I get is the 20% for the coupon.

I'll wait to see what Tuesday brings, (not oding my breath)

Anyone knows what "Includes Licenses!" means?
There is no discount on any license.

Probably a mistake in the coding. I'd suggest bringing it up in the reporting thread.
