It's here! March Madness has arrived. surprise

So, how do we know which star we have, short of adding something to the cart and hoping for the best? Is the status determined from now going forward, or does it take into account the last three days?

  • What is the proper maximum discount on new and still new releases including tokens?
From the discription it should be the same but I 73% currently on new and 77% on still new?
So is the newly mad too low or the still new too high?

  • I bought 2 days ago and again today and I can get one of the kickoff for 1.99.

  • There is a G9 character for $0.69. If you want to pay $5.99 in the MM sale, buy some new item and get a silver star then pay $5.99 for the $0.69 character, or buy two new items and get the gold star and pay only $3.99 for the $0.69 character. I'm tempted, but not quite as far as $0.69. Regards, Richard.

It would not change the price of that character today: if you're buying something over $1 today, you'll only get a star tomorrow.

And at best, you would only get a gold star monday, after buying something today and tomorrow.

They already fixed the price of Sophia.

Hm. Interesting. With December I definitely had an incentive for daily purchases, what with the Advent calendar and the Nice List. This doesn't have either of those, just some discounts for stuff I may or may not be interested in. And historically the average price of what's in the store tends to swing a bit higher than usual when stuff like this us in play in order to account for it.

I'll likely ration my QG purchases to maintain a star or two if I have enough of them I already wanted, and let it lapse when I don't. (I cleared out my Outlet interests in that 50% off sale a couple weks back).  Maybe supplement with some daily awesomeness if it happens. I'm not feeling particularly excited (first reaction was a kind of weariness that I'm "supposed to" find something to buy every day) but if there's stuff I'm getting anyway, might as well time it to activate the extra discounts, just in case.

I'm with you. There doesn't seem to be an incentive to buy daily, especially when you start without a star. I would have bought Sophia today, as she's nice, but with no star, the price isn't enticing (she's just "nice", not the "OMG! She's perfect and I need her for my project right now" product). Do I care enough to buy OS/QG items today (and possibly tomorrow) in case she's available tomorrow as well? Probably not. So tomorrow, the cycle will repeat itself. With Christmas, we knew it was coming and we would need daily purchases, so it was easy to plan to buy before to get calendar/nice list items from the get-go. And the calendar was a good incetive. With March Madness, there was no hint (in the past, I don't recall any version of Golden Tickets/Doorbusters/Punches), so anyone who wants to participate, is excluded from today's and tomorrow's shopping until they get to the gold star (which, except for the gold star item, is necessary to get any kind of good deals).

It seems that I might be sitting March Madness out, because I'm not sure I want to do (almost) daily purchases of QG/OS items. If there are any good ones on Monday changeover, I might spread them out like you, and I still have my Daz coupons to use, but I'm not positive I'll play. In fairness, though, I just paid nearly $200 to get the remaining collector's edition books in my favorite series ever, so I need a lot more incentives to spend more money at Daz.

With stars and everything else, Sophia eventually cost me 34 cents.

It sems to account for non-MM purchases over the last three days, iif any; certainly I (and others) are getting gold star prices.

considering I havent purchased anything in a month, i have no stars and no tokens. The pricing for Day 1 of MM as a base member doesn't make me want to renew membership at all. Its a pass on Day 1. It's somewhat interesting that now that I'm not buying, I'm losing all interest in DAZ, including DAZ Studio. It bores the hell out of me. The excitement is gone.   Now the only thing I can do is look back and say why.

Genuine question, @daveso -- I get that your're feeling disillusioned, but is there a particular point to disparaging what the rest of us here are (presumably) still finding fun (to one extent or another)? If you feel the need to move on, that's understandable -- interests come and go. And there can be an emotional process involved in letting stuff go. But it kinda feels like you're pooping in everyone else's cornflakes.

I'm trying to do some heavy thinking about these sales.

I will not buy something I don't want just to get a discount on something I really want.

I won't spend time calculating points or stars.

For me, my art is an exercise in creativity and joy. I don't want to spoil it by calculations, etc.

I will stick close to my wishlist when it comes time to make purchase decisions. And I've actually reduced my wishlist considerably.

If that means I don't benefit from March Madness, that is ok.

I gotcha, why don't I blow off. i apologize. You all Enjoy your time here. Yeah, I have some emotional connection to this site, why I don't know, other than my beginnings in 3DCG, over 25 years ago,  but it is gone now.   I shall say no more.

It might sounds a bit harsh, but it seems to me that you enjoyed shopping more than rendering/creating...

While I enjoy the fun sales aspect of Daz (though not always enticing enough for me to buy, and that's fine), my primary interest in Daz is to render and to create, not to spend money. I haven't been buying much in the past two months, but I'm still rendering and continuously being excited about products I haven't used and can try out for fun or those that I forgot I have but are perfect for something I need. I consistently excite myself with what I already have, not with what I could buy.

I know why I bought every single one of the products, with admittedly memory being fuzzier about the ones that were buy-ins for something else or parts of the bundle, and I regret a few of those purchases. When I catch myself thinking that I spend money on something that's just sitting in my runtime, I go and render something with it.

So if you feel like you've wasted money and wonder why, my advice would be to actually render things. Discover what you have and haven't used. Come up with some quirky ways to use those products. This is where creativity starts and guilt stops.

On the other hand, it's okay to move on too. Some hobbies don't stand the trial of time, and that's completely fine. But when you stop playing chess, you usually don't hang around chess players telling them that you aren't excited about chess, so I'm not sure what kind of comfort we can offer to you here.

I will if it costs less than not buying it. I don't do calculations. I just put stuff in the cart and watch the price go up or down. If it goes down, I leave the discount causing item in the cart. If not, I have to actually want the discount causer to keep it.

daveso, maybe you're just asking the forum for help to rediscover your enthusiasm or to understand why you've lost it. Perhaps you're not criticizing others' enthusiasm, but rather seeking the key to rediscovering it, feeling the connection of others who share the same hobby. As others in previous replies have said, you could shift your focus from purchasing to creating. As your signature states, you've purchased many things that deserve to be assembled into various renderings to share in the gallery or in dedicated forum spaces, and this could give you a boost again. Ultimately, enthusiasm comes and goes; perhaps you just need to take your time, slow down, and then refocus.

  • I like that you don't lose stars completely if you miss just 1 or 2 days.

I have several WL things in the Madness Kickoff selection, so I will probably pick out 1 to buy. Granted I tend to use & WL more older models than many people here.

BTW, many of the older Kickoff items that don't list DS as compatible are. They list DS material presets (will need converted to Iray) & even have DS renders in the promos

Yeah, being able to skip every third day and still keep a gold star will be nice as far as being able to stretch things. (Still likely I'll go down to one or zero on occasion depending on how QG pans out, but odds are better.)

Have hate love relationship with MM sales basically due to the annual government extortion being due by Apr 15, which makes budgeting a nightmare

So far this sale is going well for me. I had a cart loaded up, then just for science, I added a Newly Mad item ("Treasures Of the Carribean"). That resulted in a lower total price of the cart. I've never seen an item discount the other items in the cart by more than the added price of the new item.

No idea how diligently I shall play the stars game. I did end up with a nice result on my $6 DO coupon today - Got Giselle 6 Pro Bundle for $3.55. I never thought much about her - She's basically Tinkerbell. At least that's how she looks to me - Adorable but not really the sort of figure package I usually get.  Not actually the Best Deal Ever, but a nice treat for the end of the week. Tomorrow, I'll probably pick up a couple QG items and then we'll see how it is on Monday and Tuesday. Sadly, I have new RL pressures putting the kibosh on any serious spending for a while. But maybe good luck will strike again next weekend so I can use my March DO coupon and end my month of D+ on a high note.

For reference, my BDE is probably Coral 8.1 Megabundle that I picked up at the holidays for $3.99, no strings attached. That was DAZ generous!
