Not sleeping because hubby and I are sick with flu like symtoms, so searched recalls. After what I found I can say hello to another sleepless night. Found a December 26 2025Gold Star Distribution Regulated Recall because:
"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) determined that the facility was operating under insanitary conditions, including the presence of rodent excreta, rodent urine, and bird droppings in areas where medical devices, drugs, human food, pet food, and cosmetic products were held. These conditions create a significant risk that products held at the facility may have been contaminated with filth and harmful microorganisms".
This is ba-a-a-a-ad. Contamination like this can be fatal. The first thing that came to mind was Betsy Arakawa (Gene Hackman's wife) died from Hantavirus via contact with rodent urine and feces which 'causes rapid, severe respiratory illness'.
December 26 2025 Gold Star Distribution Inc (FDA Regulateded) distributed over a thousand different products for animals, vet, supplements. cosmetics, drugs food & Beverages Med Devices, This is for Recall for Gold Star products like tons of brand name candy and bars, Jif Peanut Butter, Purina puppy chow, fancy feast cat, 9 Lives cat, Friskies, spices, gold medal flour, hunts sauces, Kraft products, Dole etc. My understanding is it affects only 3 us states (not califorina even though we have the product upcs listed).

How long have we been eating this crap? How many more distribution centers are like this. And I thought excessive washing of store brought products with hot water and soap was over . . .
Oh freaking great. Because that's JUST what Minnesota needed right now.
Thankfully my family pod doesn't shop at any places in the recall... and I take bleach wipes to everything as it comes in, so there's an extra layer of protection. (Just the number of people who handle the groceries before I get to them, and the shocking lack of illness prevention hygeine I see -- coughing right in their hands and touching things for cripes' sake -- I have no desire for that game of roulette.)
Still. Yikes for those it does apply to. And like you said, how many other places are like that, and we just don't know about it?
It NEVER ENDS! Now someone else wrote my third memoir, Intoxicated. This is the second time I have had to crawl thru hoops trying to to get rid of false info on my author and book page. Shirley Jackson? Who the F is she and what has she (an unknown to me) got to do with my past or my memoir? URRRG. These things keep me awake too.
I have no idea how this stuff gets linked, but Shirkey Jackson was an amazing horror writer. ("Was" because she died before I was born, can't recall by how much). She's had several film remakes of her stories... The Haunting (the one with Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta Jones in it, came out in the late 90's IIRC) was probably the most recognizable to broad audiences, though IMHO although it was a good movie, it was definitely a reinterpretation and not a faithful rendering. (Personally I liked the older adaptation better, but nothing can ever top the story as it was written.)
Crushed. Awake all night last night reliving a nightmare. April 1st local vets booked. Travelled to Emergency Vet Hospital to save one of our rescues. A beautiful sweet 4 year old blue eyed ragdoll that was feral now semi-feral bordering best pet. I told the vet it washer right leg but he disagreed and said it was the left and he need 4 xrays. Spent 950 on sedation and four& Xrays that concluded her right leg was shattered. She didn't make it. Spent 50 grand or more on vet bills for pets and rescues. One time had a euthanized Shih Tzu (cancer treatments failed) due to an inappropriate dosage fight before dying. Haunted me for years but never blamed the vet. Ripped my heart in half. But this is the first time, ever, I felt a vet hospital was unethical. And they were but I am not ready to share what happened other than it wasn't a financial issue. Nobody googles vet ER reviews in an emergency buit today I read reviews that are hair raising. Part of me wants to do the right thing and report what happened to support others with lesser evidence or those complaints that may have been tainted with financial issues, but the bigger part of me wants to forget what happened and not relive it. I am so big on exposing injustices but for the first time I am thinking, this won't bring her back so why add to the trauma. Then I just cry and close the screen that houses the complaint form. Done that a dozen times. Open it, type, close it. Same with this message. Maybe this time I will click post comment and see what you guys think. Then I think why post this? I probably won't even look at this for days or weeks. Eyes overflowing with tears. Can hardly read what I write. So gutted. Doubt I'll sleep for a few nights.
I'm so, so sorry you're going through this. Losing fur-family is hard enough without the extra trauma on top of it.
There's no deadline on deciding if you want to raise awareness or not. Give yourself time to grieve, and take care of yourself as best you're able. My heart is with you, and I hope your fur-baby can visit you in happy dreams.
I know it won't fix anything, but I'll light a candle for her tonight.

Thank you so much. Several years ago we lured some dehydrated hungry dogs into our do run. They had tags so we dialed the number and told the owner we had them in our dog run. Later that evening a police officer arrived to collect them. They were her dogs. One week later she returned witth a bag of dog food a thank you. Today several years later I see her home depot. Like me, she rescues feral cats, feeds them and tries to rehabilitate them. I told her our story about Karma our semi-feral cat and she informed us two weeks prior the same ER Vet Hospital pulled a similar stunt and that client formed a complaint against them because they returned a sedated cat to them that was dead - not sedated - dead. and after filing a complaint against them, she got banned from that hospital. But no loss who would go back there? After hearing our story of a similar situation, she said you are right, and they were wrong and you need to report them..She is affiliated with a no kill cat rescue in LA that has a large commercial building house with nurses that care for cats and the outcome of our visit is accpording to them, beyond outrageous. So I have decided to proceed in an action intended to revoke their license and cripple their business, After costs (if any) are recovered any profits will go to supporting feline neuters spays and rehabs. MY GOAL IS NOT TO RECOVER COSTS. MY GOAL IS TO SHUT THEM DOWN.

As a thought, if there's anything to donate, can you do it in your kitty's name? It doesn't bring her back, but it might help some with the healing process.
Thank you @SilverGirl. I plan to plan this well. Nothing is gained by rushing. My hypothetical gun is useless if I have few or zero bullets. The bullets will be the medical bills paid for wellness checks. Spent 365.00 for full blodd panels and urine etc every year. She was handled by three vets, two who do not work on ferals. The City vet that takes care of starys etc, who did work on ferals said, "Can we steal he, she is so sweet so beautiful. You are so super supportive. Hope you & your young dude are doing well.
So.... I decided to repaint kitchen cupards and was looking for a brush to do reach into a dreaded corner cabinet in kitchens I need to know this
"WHO PUTS BRUSHES USED FOR CLEANING TOILET BASE IN THE DISHWASHER?!!!!" Retching.
I'm a big one for gathering evidence and coming prepared, too. It's how I got full custody of the kids. There are times when scorched earth is the only earth. I wish you well in your quest.

Awake because that's our sleep schedule for now, and thinking about this study about how sleep irregularity is a huge risk factor for all sorts of health badness.
