the main reason I use the icon is because you get an option to open a new window under target
I choose that option because some people used to get shirty if it navigates away from the forum
likewise when I embed images I copy the url in the address under the link window with new window chosen
A typical cat response as cats are known for evasive behavior . . . but typical cats tends to avoid humans . . . not you. Maybe you are wise cat who has lived many lives . . . stories to tell . . . secrets you observed here in the forums from subtle clues. Yes cats do carry the burden of cat secrets. Cat secrets were safe until AI. Now those cat secrets have been exposed. Sorry Richard. My cat walked on the keyboard and this video played. At the end of the video there is a link for depressed cats. I am not suggesting you are shunning your cat identity because you are depressed, but if you ever feel depressed (negative posts are a downer) maybe you should check out the link at the end of the video which addresses cat happiness.
@everyone else . . . Man . . . cats can be exhausting. I have finished the cat condo inside (former dining room) and made the left side 6 levels. A lower potty area with dual sliding barn doors and cat cutouts on both left and right sides. On the left, above the potty area, is a three level condo with pebble-stone walls, the fifth level being a porch roof and the sixth being a roof top deck, The front large picture window has bridges, ramps with a look out tower. The right side has a forest/park feel of a four level tree trunk with 4 large round cutouts and forest branches and vines. For the front wall that faces the living room, I used wrought iron wall decor over the caging, and builta custom door from scratch),. I found a wood tree ladder from 'At Home' store store and wrapped each rung with sisal rope (hands felt crippled afterwards). Cut and painted (cheetah print) some planks boards to fit between the rungs to avoid cat falls. I hung it above the front door (built a front wall with door, to enclose the dining room). It's a vaulted ceiling so a sub see-through ceiling 8 feet above the floor was a huge challenge because above it (years ago) I built wrap-around 2 inch thick 'shelves' that housed 9 foot silk trees etc. Vines and twisted bark cover the underneath if the ladder. So above the catio ceiling is a jungle they can see but can't access. So the catio is what once was a formal dining room. Now I am working on a colossal (two story house) catio village outdoors. I awake and envision what part I need to work on the next day. I imagine what I will cut, hammer and drill until I finally drift off. And as soon as I am deep asleep, my overbearing rescued (formerly feral) Siamese, who likes to sniff my nose and pat my check at 1 am 2 am 3am 4am 5am while being very vocal, is punishing me because this is all for the other feral rescues who do not have free roam of the house like she does. Unfortunately cats are not the only pets who can tell the time. My Shih Tzu 3 yr old barks at 4.30 am every morning because Diva, my 15 yr old deaf Yorkie is sniffing her cage thinking, 'Is it breakfast time yet'? Never ever buy two dogs (in my case 6 dogs, two passed) the same age. Because when they start going deaf and blind the maintenance is non-stop. What makes me even more sleepless is knowing I should be doing the art for the next book I have written. So far 5 books are in final draft awaiting on my art work for covers etc., but hubby and the animals come first.
What you're building sounds absolutely wild and gorgeous, could you not post a pic or two? Would love to see what you're doing there. You're the sweetest person really for doing all this for your animals! - I could also use some inspiration to maybe keep our old tom a bit more occupied at night / early morning. Since he doesn't do much anymore when he's outside, he's becominb a tiiiiiny bit of a nuisance indoors ...
Though please, do not put yourself on the back burner like you wrote, if you don't mind me saying this. That always comes back to bite you in the behind. I'm reading an awful lot of 'shoulds' in your posts generally, not many 'wants / likes' etc., you know? If you don't give yourself nice experiences, your batteries are gonna keep draining until you can't do anything for anyone anymore. Been there, done that. Don't go there, please. YOU must come first for yourself, and you give to others what you have to spare. Because otherwise, soon there will be nothing left of you to give. Please take care.
@SilverGirl, thanks for the book rec! No, I'd never heard of that one, but sounds fascinating, I'll check it out.
ArtAngel what do you think the C in CIA stands for?
I'm not sure Jack will be happy about your listing the features of your des cat res when I can tell he has his toolkit to hand.
If you do, I hope you enjoy! I have fond memories of gobbling it down betwen classes at the community college. :)
@ArtAngel - I am in awe of your cat renovation project, and hope you're able to soon take time to work on your creative stuff for yourself.
LOL. In 1994 I went to Ireland and learned that crack meant chatting in the streets while drinking an ale or something more potent. But in NFLD (NL) crack meant either the walls were splitting or laughter was splitting your gut. So, you crack me up in the latter way..
Not sure which one you wanted a pic of, so lets start with one of 4 walls (the inside left wall of former dining room). By the way if you don't get along with in-laws, this is a great way to alienate diners from your dining-room. The bottom level is (cat head & tails cutouts is where potty trays are. The perch above the window wall (high up) is an old inverted Ikea chair from 1980. I painted brown into the boards to look like knots and blemishes before varnishing.
The cat tower was a carpeted thingy you buy every where. I housed it outdoors for feral cats so I stripped the carpet (looked pristine but rancid yuk was revealed when I stripped it. I decided to boycott carpet and do stones and mortar for the lower shelves. I made videos of me making this but suck at social so like all other things I build and paint they remain on my hard drive. I really need to learn to be more social.
Edit:: the roof top ceck (their fav spot) is missing in this pic butI built it above that brown/tan board above the porch deck
@ArtAngel - WOW!!!! Talk about lap of luxury! That's beautiful!!!!!!
Thank you. This is why I am late on my books. Yes I am a bad author. The indoor dining-room has three other walls finally finished. I love the forest park wall better than the condo wall. I also have another larger catio that was once a huge master bathroom. Yes I need intervention lol. I am almost done with the outside catio village (2 stories high). So exhausted. Shake my head wondering why I do this for feral cats. Maybe it is because I am a Leo or maybe it is because I was raised like a trapped animal in a basement and know what the scent/hope of freedom (fresh air) smells like.
@ArtAngel, I have to hide that photo from my Maine Coons, they'll hate me forever if they see it & realise they are never going to get something similar.
Regards,
Richard
@richardandtracy Your cats are spoiled with love and probably have a whole house to play in versus a dining room. My DAZ computer is located in the living room. so they are becoming more social at a faster pace.
Talk about sleepless . . . I decided to get up rather than toss and turn, It's 2.48am . . . sigh. Now that I have corrected my spelling errors, I'll go do something more productive, like download last weeks order.
Yeah, the cats have the whole house.
Last night our older Maine Coon Ozzie (13yo) had most of our bed and the two of us had a little bit. The 15 week kitten Toby is confined to conservatory, livingroom, dining room, stairs, our bedroom & bathroom at the moment. Soon he'll have the whole house once he can remember where the dirt tray is.
Then at 26 weeks or so, Toby can have the 1 acre garden too, along with Ozzie. Fortunately there are no Raccoons here to be a hazard to cats. The worst we have (very rarely) is Black Panthers, and [so far] they are very timid around people.
Regards,
Richard
@ArtAngel, I am blown away at the love you have put into that catio.
Have you considered another business venture of plans for others, or plans/supplies, or whatever for folks around the world to indulge their cat babies? Maybe mix-n-match options, small projects to build into grand palaces? Or maybe collaborate with a PA on DAZ to create 3D versions for all of us?
Mary
mine more primitive
I cut holes in the shelves of a wall unit with a jigsaw at opposing ends and nailed long planks on top linking my other shelves, window pelmet, staggered crates mounted to the wall creating a cat superhighway around my room Lucy runs around most mornings after eating
That sounds like a plan, if it doesn't put you on a lot of SOs' hit lists.
@ArtAngel, ooooh wow, your cat jungle/palace/luxe room is plain amazing! Thanks for sharing.
Richard, 'SOs' - can you translate for me. I am not up on modern terminology. Of course, if it is dirty, give me the approved kid's version. :-)
This is Richard we're talking about, so I wouldn't worry about the terminology being TOO modern.
Thanks you guys. Your comments floor me in a good way. I am best at graphics in PS, but because I love and own so many pets I really try to make what I see in my head a reality. It drives my hubby nuts. I'll be painting a picture for like 30 minutes and after 5 his eyes cross and dim. I do the same with books especially Sci-fI and Fantasy. I will ramble on (excitedly for like an hour) and he'll say, did you right any of this down because you just verbally wrote the entire book. Now he records me. Like the videos they just sit on hard drives. He videoed every part of me building the Catio and I would say, Don't het me in the vido just get my hands. And afterward I'd look at my paint splattered hand and split broken jagged nails and go I can't ever post that. One day, if get better at social media and become brave I'll try to post them.. I really struggle with self promotion. So, according to my hubby I am the worlds best kept secret. I built a 24 foot aviary and painted the entire back wall as a giant mural that went from a forest on the left, a beach in the middle and seaside villages on the right. I painted the beach with froth weaving thru the sand, some sand wet, some dry, and made coves with surf. Above the coves I painted a forest hills populated with colorful houses and a blue skies with whispery white clouds. Then the shelf below was a sandy beach with swirls of teal and agua fringe with surf left by receding waves. I built hundreds of real bird houses that I painted to match matched the ones on the hill (painted mural) . Then I chopped down half of my cherry and apple trees to make an arch that led to a forest sitting. Not sure why I can't just build a cage and call it done .
Thank you for such support. Actually I'd love that. The PA collaborating part that is. As for real life plans . . . I hired a guy (he did 2 palapas) one table with a gas fire grid and thatched roof and repeated it over on the other side except it was an L-Shaped bar versus a table. Nothing I could ever build. So I told him what I wanted and said I will build the first level and leave parts unfinished so you can see how to do it. I hired him to complete the upper levels of my outdoor Catio. Surprisingly he was struggling with it and took three weeks to figure one portion out. When he sent me the pic of what he did (last night) . . . well I couldn't sleep. I told him it looked like a handyman did some rough-in framing for a pig pen, and I had envisioned something better, and invited him to take another look at what I had built (outside catio). So I doubt I would do well offering plans or services or thoughts to the public. I think 3D would be the safest route for someone like me. And yes I would certainly need a PA working with me because without one I would never release the thing. It would never be good enough. Always needing this or that. Me sabotaging the release. But thank you for such a sweet encouraging response.
Is CIA Cats In Action or Cats In Accumulation . . . never mind, I get it the C in CIA means Cats duh! And what does Jack have in his tool kit? Cat traps? Oh and while we are in covert mode . . . does SO mean significant other????
I can only speak for myself, of course, but I'd rather have a video of someone who looks like they've done the work... even if it's just hands. I'm a wreck after any project I do, and watching videos from someone who is too put together and manicured is intimidating. If/when you ever do feel safe to post them, I would love to see them. :)
Jack has been repairing my horse https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/9269101/#Comment_9269101 , so I might be tempted to present him with some additional suggestions (though I suspect the result might owe a debt to Escher).
Yes, SO was for significant other - probably a very not-new term these days, but I am slow to adapt.
Have you seen just how tight a bandage a cat can get its paw out of? Our Maine Coon has got his paw out of a bandage I couldn't put my little finger back in.
Regards,
Richard

Ah, 'SO' significant other. Oookay. As a single person who chooses to be that way, that is not a phrase in my lexicon. By choice. I have heard of it, just not on my Top Ten. Although Charlie may think he is my SO now. Directs my bedtime, combs my hair, orders me around, ... sounds like a spouse.
Yes. there was some discussion of the handcuffs down the thread.
