My wrist and hands feel like I was the victim of a torture chamber. Drilling holes in concrete stucco . . . cutting oodles of 12 gauge wires yada yada yada. But maybe a rum and 7 will ease the pain . . . Despite the latter, I am so-o-o-o-o-o-o-OOOO happy. Got the outside Catio structures done. Last night I toosed and turned, fretting/over-thinking some final touches. I was almost done, but two things were bugging me all night. The lower level one wexterior Catios are 8 feet tall. The door on the level one Catio 1 (12x3 exterior room off dining room window) was perfect. But level one Catio2 (5x3 exterior room off kitchen window) was not level. One small wall was out by one inch at the top. So i tore it apart. and rebuilt it. Now the door 6 foot high door looks aligned. And I hated how the 2nd level looked. The exterior Caio condo has is 6 levels high. . . like overlapping steps except the steps are 5-6 feet wide each amd two feet tall. So I climbed to the top of a eight foot ladder and removed the front portion of level two and remade it. Added hardware and it is done. In Catio 1 I inserted a tree with a spiral sort of stair case that leads to an opening to level two. But I made a hatch door with wood and wire to retain the downstairs cats to level one for now. I made a similar hatch in Catrio two to keep the cats from entering other levels and am just putting in a bench and a small cat tower until they are con=mfortable with going in and out. The next big step will be inserting the glass cat door window partion in the upstairs bathroom and letting them util;ize levels 6-2 only. Got two different small colonies that need to meet and greet at the hatch.
Edit: I really shoud correct the spelling errors . . . but . . .
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Now go baby those wrists and hands. They've earned some rest.
I am hurting for you. And all I am doing is correcting the mess that Customer Service made of my Runtime by having me log-in to DAZ on my MacBook Pro over a year ago. New titles for products, stripped out thumbnails for those DAZ fillers, or just deleted my thumbnails where there was no thumbnail provided. I am 2/3rd of the way through and killing my back, shoulders, arms, wrists, fingers and eyes. And I have noticed that DAZ is not even consistent in their changes, flipping back and forth between what is okay. Really annoying.
Just what is that stucco made of?
Sounds like I could do with some here. The rendering used on some brickwork at the back of my conservatory was so soft it's eroded 3/8" inch in 10 years. I need some hard stuff.
Anyway, sounds as if your cats will be living like kings. Hope the hands improve soon.
Regards,
Richard.
Congratulations on the catio... now, what will your masters and mistresses want next?
Well . . . if anyone would or could know/interpret these feline demands . . . it might be just you. Or maybe I should saunter over to the Art Studio and pick barbult's brain. Or you could share 93+ thousand (posts) tips on cats/communications. For example my siamese lies belly up seemingly waiting for a tummy rub, but what her REAL intent is to ensnare me with her claws. It's a sucker trap and I have wounds to prove it. Cats can be quite deceptive and luring. There is a reason they have nine lives. They turn owners into wannabe serial killers. But it all comes down to miscommunication. Big grin.
Edit: adding pic . Such demanding felines
When attempting to achieve the stucco look at the local Renaissance faire, the builders tend to slather cement over chicken wire, and then paint it white. I'm caught between "seems to hold pretty well" and "you might not want to do that"... on one hand, you can definitely tell where it could do with some repairs, but those spots most often are places like windowsills where people like sitting. It really only sees hard use for less than three weeks out of the year, but also, weather in Minnesota is harsh, and upkeep isn't exactly their strong suit. So maybe it's pretty good overall, especially if you're willing to tend to cracks before chunks start falling off.
So the back of the house has stucco finish (not siding) but beneath it is 6 inches of concrete. We know this because we had a dog door cut out and installed. The front was all siding and wood but we recently had some siding removed and added hardboard and cement "rock". Much easier to drill.
Oh gosh your house is beautiful! I'm especially fond of the decorative metalwork in front of the windows and over the garage door (and the garage door itself! Wow!!) Love that upgrade with the faux-stones, too. Well done!
I've not got a photo of my problem area (photo of house from Google Street View attached), as it's out the back over the downstairs toilet slate roof & backing on to a single brick/block thick wall built for the conservatory. The slate roof is at an angle of about 30 degrees, and the lead flashing has come loose. It was only cemented on by overlapping render. The render has eroded, the flashing has slipped and the render covering the flashing has all fallen off. I need to get up there, put in proper (read traditional) flashing as I did on another building and turn the render into stucco with (possibly) a mesh inside as it seems to make it much stronger & work better. Putting mesh in stucco is not traditional in this area, so the mesh is going to be very hard to get.
A treble garage... Oh boy. That is nice, ArtAngel. Our garage (bottom right of the photo) partly dates back to at least 1912 when it first appeared on maps, but is now 2 vehicles deep instead of the 1 vehicle deep it was when originally built. It was partly re-built this year after a truck reversed into it, and came within an inch or two of being completely demolished on top of our car. The bricks visible at the front have all been replaced, but the design was replicated. I got rid of the satellite dish shortly after that photo - we've never had satellite TV.

Richard
Sometimes they seem to mean "rub my head", not that that is ideal if they are doing it on gravel and are then going to press your hand into the ground. They are also prone to grab dangling limbs regardless, coming in at an angle is safer.
That is very impressive.
Last night was the worst night ever. I ordered a takeout (delivcery) from an well know Italian franchise restaurant. Huge mistake. Giant humongous mistake. Tums became my best friend. After tossing and turning, feeling sick as a dog, I finally got up at 1.30 and just stayed awake all night sitting at the computer doing a whole lot of nothing much. Dinner is usually a salad, steamed veggies or a home made soup (frozen and thawed). I know . . . never say never . . .but never again - no way.
I am so jealous. I cannot get a vehicle inside my garage. I decided to turn the laundry room into a dog parlor so ripped out the old cabinets and had a plumber move and install the appliances into the garage. Then I built a weall to partion off the new laundry room. Then I built a wall between the double garage and single garage thinking I would run a business from it.But hubby never recovered from surgery and when I turned the living room into a hospiital room (for three years) the leather sofas ended up in the garge where they still are lol with a ton of other stuff like unised threadmill etc. We too have a satelite dish but do not have satelite TV.
Thet's a bit of a major thing; Having to put up with hubby in a hospital room in the house. Not a great outcome.
I can see that getting the vehicle into a garage would be a good thing.. I will say that our garage does flood, up to 9" deep in extreme rain, and it's narrow. Very narrow. Cars in 1912 were much smaller than now. It's plenty wide enough for our Citroen 2CV (4ft 8in wide), but a little Toyota Aygo at 5ft4in + mirrors is a bit wide to be totally comfortable for the 7ft wide door aperture. My wife always folds the driver side mirror in before parking in there.

Richard
Thanks. Some people like more minimalistic. Probably easier to clean lol. The house had sprinklers grass and bushes everywhere. Mostly I have plants in pots with a water tube set up. Now we only have grass outside by the road. The siding was jacked so bad on the side yard. I actually pulled a piece off to see if it was termite rot. Luckily no. The siding was discontinued so I didn't want it to look like a mismatch. Almost went with veneer but didn't like the cracks/rain/mold possiblility. Althouugh it hardly rains in Southern California I figured with my luck (trouble stalks me) I'd better play it safe. The guy painted it bwon brown darkish, so I borrowed his paint and showed him the look I wanted. Everybody has different tastes. I actually hand painted every vertical blind in the house when we bought it. It was all white on the inside (white tiles white walls and light beige carpet. I turned it into a jungle lol. Every time I say that's the last project, I conjure up another. I am 69 and I really need to stop changing/making SH****T. I have 20 years of construction videos. I say to hubby, can you video me making blah blah, or painting blah blah, and he'll say, "Why bother? Nobody is ever going to see it. He interviewed me about six years ago, as an author for one of my books, and I didn't even post those lol., Anyway, here is how the ouside looked when we bought it in 2003..
I love the changes!! ...I'm not even vaguely a minimalist LOL -- I like to be surrounded with beauty. (And yes my collection of garage sale and thrift store suncatchers counts,)
Goodmorning to all insomniacs. So I just got up and started downloading one of two carts purchase yesterday. Had a decent nights sleep despite one spider bite and three mosquito hits. I actually only woke up briefly twice. I am surprised because between stain fumes, spray paint fumes and mosquito spray on me (sprayed everything buy my eyeballs) , I expected to suffer a bad night. I spent part of yesterday staining/painting Tiki stool stumps to look more stump-like and red humming bird anti-ant moats black on the outside. I spent the best part of the day removing hundred of staples just to get a woven mat for a roof part and am thankful I did not dream about staples. Anyway this morning hubby says, Did you dump your cart again or buy it? I said, I bought it and one more to get the stuff for a buck. He said, I dreamt we were at a DAZ convention last night. I laughed and said, you travel pretty well for somepne disabled who can't go many places. He said we met Fugazi and his wife. I said, hmm . . . maybe I am going to be a PA. He said no, the convention was for customers who spent the most money at DAZ.
@SilverGirl I love it that you utilize the thrift store. I have sent stuff there and bought stuff there. They have everything but bent twisted tree trunks which I am dying to get my hands on. I saw a picture of the weirdest AI cat bed ever and I am itching to make it . . . somehow. I once boiught a mannequin and a wedding dress for it, from a thrift store. You'd think I'd own a few considering I am close to Liz Taylor on the count. My only traditional wedding dress was for my last-currant marraige
Awoken at 5am. Low flying kitten landed on my head. I assume he'd jumped from part of the bed and needed something empty to land on.Not exactly chuffed about it.
Then later, he climbed up my bare back (claws out) to get to my shoulders when I was sitting on the edge of the bed. Stern telling off made no impression (he's a cat, after all) and after that I had to towel off the blood.

Richard
A very considerable portion of what I own came from thrift stores, yard sales, and the last day of church sales when anything you can fit in a grocery bag is $5. Kid clothing paradise!!! My teen developed a taste for it before they could even walk, and once they were older I started joking that it was their superpower that all I had to do was tell them what I was hoping to find, and within a few weeks they'd spot somthing close, if not exact. Stained glass lamps and everything.
