Can't change hair color

omvendtomvendt Posts: 145

Hi, anyone else have this product

https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-strand-based-fe-shawl-long-hair-for-genesis-9

I can't change the hair color. I have checked that I am using G9 for hair and actor. The product has both materials and shaders, which I think is unusual. Mostly, it is just materials that you double click on, isn't it?

Hope you can help    (O:

    I don't have the hair.

What does the log say, if you try to apply a material Help > Troubleshooting > View Log?

You should be able to apply a shader (in reality shader preset), by having the object selected in the scene tab, and the surface(s) in the Surface tab, given the shader match.

Are you trying to use the shaders that come with the product or external shaders? This is from the product in Content Library.

The material presets that come with the product are just used for changing non-color settings. You have to use Shader Presets within this product. Go to Surfaces pane, select all hair Surfaces, dbl-click a Shader Preset to apply the colors.

EDIT: the presets are also in content library. I used #48 "blue" in my post above:

I have been finding that I have to use the Spot Render camera to verify if my hair/makeup I thought I applied actually took. And yes, I have been known to forget to select my surfaces if I have been working in Materials and switched to Shaders. It is one of those smack my forehead into my keybord moments.

    Yes, correct !

In Surfaces pane, with hair surfaces selected, apply those presets that are marked as Shader in the upper-right corner of the thumbnails.

I feel dumb and happy that so many of you were willing to help.

It worked as advertized. Not sure why FE would make hair that works this way when all the other hair I have ever used (admittedly not for long) works in a simple click-and-you-are-done way
