(As every other week) Thanks for heads-up smiley

All three hair-models look like they'll work well in Filatoon. One of them has iRay shaders, the other two would need converting but will probably work with G9 in that engine too.

No need to convert/autofit the hairs. Just parent in place. I swear by Sloshwerks' https://www.daz3d.com/uht-hair-shaders-for-iray for use with older hairs (or more recent hairs that only come with a few Iray presets, like many Daz+ ones). All you do is apply one of the hair's material presets in a color close to the UHT shader (this provides the transmaps) and then apply the UHT shader. Slosh has other Iray hair shader sets but this is the simplest to use.

It's a nice selection, though no male content this time. We got some locations, though. Thanks Daz!

  • Yes, it's a very good selection, including hair for Genesis 8 Female (which I already owned, having bought them a while ago because they're so cute). All the products are beautiful, I especially like the lights, which are always very useful. A generous gift that adds to the other freebies of the season. Thanks, DAZ. Happy holidays everyone. :)

    I skipped them somehow. :(

But I do like the selection. I've considered the tunnel entrance before. Have wanted Montgolfier but couldn't justify buying it when I had another ballon...somewhere in my library.

Yep, happens often enough that you should never turn down textures. I even put some of the outfits I had textures for in my wishlist, and got them for free in the advent calendar this month.

Reminder to folks that the freebies are due to refesh on Friday, so make sure you pick things up if you haven't.

I haven't seen any freebies offered for several days.

The freebies being talked about here in the past few days are the biweekly Daz freebies at https://www.daz3d.com/free-3d-models. They now frequently include G3 & some G8 items. If you aren't seeing any on that page, you own all the current selection. As mentioned, the selection changes over tomorrow,. Daz is surprisingly good at getting this to happen on time without issues, so if there's items you still want, grab them today.

For anyone who's new here or has missed it, https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/622671/an-attempt-of-a-limited-time-freebie-message-only-email-alert-thread-part-2#latest announces freebies - not just from Daz but other model sites as well.

...with the exception of the fact that the banner still says "free items added weekly" even though they've been every two weeks for at least two years, so technically they're a week late every time.

Maybe it's a pet peeve, but how long does it take to update one line of text to be accurate?? I get that they're bi-weekly. We all know they're bi-weekly. It's fine that they're doing them bi-weekly! But one shouldn't have to "just know" that what they say isn't what they mean.

And yup that's the hill I'm dying on this morning LOL.

Yeah I have all those freebies.

LOL, I don't even pay attention to the wording of that banner any more.

"How long does it take to update one line of text to be accurate?" Do you recall the classic Tootsie Pop commercial with Mr. Owl being asked how many licks to get to the center of the pop?  It ends with the voice-over, "The world may never know..." That is possibly the only answer we'll get to your question, as well.

Mr Owl may not know the answer to our questions, but we do indeed have a fresh set of freebies at https://www.daz3d.com/free-3d-models and there are some g2, g3 and g8 items in the mix. Thanks Daz!

Sadly, nothing much for the male characters - That's normal, I guess.

ROFL on Mr. Owl. Part of me misses commercials from the 80s. There were some really clever ones.

Good mix of stuff this round. Nothing I specifically needed except the i13 outfit, which I got ages ago... I got a lot of good use out of retexturing that vest for a RenFaire costume for one of my characters, though, so no regrets that I got it when I did. Hopefully others will get some good mileage in their own ways!

That was a pretty fantastic assortment this time!
  • It was. Already in my cart.

Mr. Owl has been around since 1969. The Internet says a new version was released last year. Never noticed, but I haven't watched much TV recently.

Oh cool! I had no idea Mr. Owl was long since famous by the time I saw him. I learned a thing today :)
