iz on south shore of Long Island. Coast Guard barracks are a couple of bridges away, Lighthouse, i forget the name. went with the bubby one time, back when i was still driving. we both came home with tickes on us. eeek
One of the most beautiful trips I've taken was going from Los Angeles to Austin by train.. the night sky in the esert is amazing, and sunrises and sunsets are incredible! Also, the one train trip I took from Virginia to Chicago, were were in the plains and there was a full moon AND Sunrise.. the observation car was packed.
This is one reason I don't like flying.. yiou miss how the world can look..
I have really appreciated the night sky since we moved to Wales. We live at about 1200ft, in what is referred to sometimes as "The foothills of the Brecon Beacons range", the Brecon Beacons being some of the highest mountains in Wales, and the 4 Beacon mountains were used to light beacons on, back in the day. The Brecon Beacons area is now a National Park, and has been granted "Dark Sky" status. In other words we do get to see a sky to the north of us that is pretty much free of light pollution. This year we have been able to see comets, occasionally the ISS passing, and of course now the line up of the 3 planets. We don't have to travel too far to even see the northern lights when there is a good show, and the number of stars we see on a clear night is incredible. Plus often we do see sun and moon in the sky at the same time.
Sounds lovely! It's tough to find a place like that out here, without being dozens of miles away from civilization..
collected a bunch of halloween trick or treats so far
This photo was taken from about 3 miles east of us and right near the main road. Not my photo, someone else's.
Beautiful!
I am in Atlanta. Not feeling well though.
Hang in there!
Atlanta is not that bad... Or was it the flying part?... You did fly, right?... Maybe you just taxied all the way to Atlanta... Sometimes it feels like it took that long. By the way, how's the zombie problem down there?... The Walking Dead really made it seem off the wall, far worse than the last time I was there.
Anyone here going Trick or Treating or dressing up as anything not what they are normally dressed up as... for hollow weenies? I was gonna be some sort of Star Wars-esque bounty hunter... I only half finished making the helmet... Got too busy to make the gauntlets and body armor, now I'll never finish it before Halloween. I used to like Halloween, now it's just boring... I'm not allowed to terrify small children anymore, so where is the fun...
my friend at work is too good to be true. i don't deserve her.
she went to her library on lunch time and rented grimm season2 to lend to me, so i don't have suffer cliffhangar blues.
what is Monro? boodenbod?
and what's up with the police capt?
and mary elizabeth mastro tonio ... oops, shouldn't say any more
i hope nick eventually tells Juliet and Hank the truth. it's stressful to keep a moas secret.
That's a very nice photo Chohole... Where I am there is too much light pollution... If I were to go about 40 miles east of here or out into the nearby Atlantic, it gets very dark... It's nice when you go out in a boat and it's clear skies at night... especially at this time of year... No auroras, but you can make out the Milky Way band... The stars... Not the candy bar.
midnight milky wayyyy nommmms pounce
and combining 2 comments by McGyver. I bought milky ways to hand out to trick and treaters.
TRICK OR TREAT :D
a few inches of rain coming. flood advisories. >.< wind up to 36SSE
batten down the hatches. sounds like a day to stay home and catch up on installs. if the power stays up.
it's 3 year anniversary since hurricane Sandy. there're still abandoned houses in the area.
I live nearer to the Robert Sauron Beach lighthouse... the one with the big fiery eyeball on the top... its the one located on the part of Fire Island thats not always on fire... this one:
Not sure as I was only in Atlanta to change planes. Now in Wisconsin.
Morning. Caught up in a huge traffic jam with a mob of orange-beaked seagulls sqwawking loud as a heavy metal band caught in cab-rocking wind gusts like tumbling orange and grey rag dolls alongside the freeway bridge jammed with horse floats and all kinds of flash limos heading for the race track.
Weather putting on a smorgasboard for us today, everything except rain, was real sunny and blue sky a little after dawn here :)
Hmm... Well... I hear you can get good cheese there... Don't know much about the zombie situation though.
No zombies so far
Whyfor are you flitting around the US, curious minds want to know
I'm almost ready for Halloween. I've carved my pumpkin and placed it on the porch to lure the little beggars close. Now all I have to do is finish digging the tiger pit and sharpen the stakes to put in the bottom.
Actually, I'm lying.
I'm not digging the pit. I don't get many (any) trick-or-treaters anymore. Not since I tried the tiger pit scheme years ago.
Oops, double-triple post. Grrrrr. I hate this new forum editing mechanism!!!!

Also very nice! I am a bit worried about that lighthouse, though. Maybe we should gather the hobbits!
