Morning. City streets and towers and concrete and steel freeway interchanges soft lit and glowing under an iron overcast airbrushed blue in parts and glowing red and yellow in others from not quite extinguished night time neon signs spruiking gay to workaday grey a little after dawn :)

That is a new word...I don't know what it means...spruiking.

don't think it is colloquial but a spruik is a pitch or persuasion, usually vocal and loud, was on the freeway overpass above what passes for the nightclub district in Melbourne and all the neons were still glowing ALL LIVE and EXOTIC and so on, dunno about turnips we stopped using those here when iphones arrived wink

I think it's always a great day to eat an eclair!  laugh

    Do all planes have baños?

...they used to as I remember, but then again in these days of cutting operations costs I wouldn't doubt it if they eliminated them as well to save on weight, cabin space (so they can pack more passengers in), maintenance and cleaning costs while charging higher fares and more fees for services that used to be included in the ticket price.

...or at the least, they'd charge a fee to use them.

Cabin attendant:  "Emergency exits are two to the front, two to the rear and two over the wing.  Restrooms are located to the the front, and rear of the cabin and do not accept American Express cards."

Well, turns out the job isn't in Austin, it's in Round Rock which is north of the city.. stupid California headhunter.. fortunately, light rail from Austin gets me within about 7 miles, which is taxi distance, and the raise I got is enough to cover the extra travel expense!  Still.. curse mutter.. bloody headhunters.. angryangry

Ticket reserved, will pick it up tomorrow.  Now it's just a matter of waiting.. I hate waiting..

..I hate that.  I 'll get an offer that says "Portland OR", but when I check out the address I find it's in one of the far flung burbs like Hillsboro Tualatin, or Wilsonville (not even the same county  as Portland) where getting there on transit is an "adventure" or (as in the case of Wilsonville) impossible. Even had one that ended up being in Vancouver WA.

Anyone here going Trick or Treating or dressing up as anything not what they are normally dressed up as... for hollow weenies? I was gonna be some sort of Star Wars-esque bounty hunter... I only half finished making the helmet... Got too busy to make the gauntlets and body armor, now I'll never finish it before Halloween. I used to like Halloween, now it's just boring... I'm not allowed to terrify small children anymore, so where is the fun...

..will probably be staying home myself.  Big storm off the Pacific coming our way just in time for the weekend beginning on Friday and continuing through Sunday.  According to the weather alert, it's supposed to be the most significant and heaviest rainfall of 2015 with localised flood warnings issued (the first time all year).

I am in Atlanta.  Not feeling well though.

Atlanta is not that bad... Or was it the flying part?... You did fly, right?... Maybe you just taxied all the way to Atlanta... Sometimes it feels like it took that long. By the way, how's the zombie problem down there?... The Walking Dead really made it seem off the wall, far worse than the last time I was there.

Not sure as I was only in Atlanta to change planes.   Now in Wisconsin.

    ...must be on Delta, correct?

I hate flying today as it seems you often have to go out of your way to change planes to get where you are going.

One time when I was heading back to Portland OR from Milwaukee WI, I first had to fly 300 miles east to Detroit and then back over Lake Michigan and Wisconsin.

I miss the regulated days when you has more direct flights and less of this bloody transferring at some out of the way hub.

..well all caught up finally. missed a few days because of RL stuff  - getting the SSI appeal underway and appointments with my doctor and my dentist.

Going to be a long haul to get an upper partial denture as on the state health plan, the wait list is horribly long.  Won't be able to get the needed extractions done and an impression made until the beginning of February, however, the alternative would be thousands out of pocket.

I think it's the fact a lot of headhunters just pick the nearest major city and use that, not condisering that not everyone wants a two-hour commute! angry Bozos...

Regardless, I've found a pile of carpools to get me home from work, whioch cost about 1/2 of what a taxi would, so that helps.  I should be able to find a rideshare/carpool up once I get there, as well.  I do NOT want to live in Round Rock until they get at least some rudimentary bus service going. Only last year did they start work on a transit plan, so it'll be a while.

Uber and Lyft are both very active in Austin, as well, so I have a bajilion options.  It's one of the reasons I love Austin, it's a fairly progressive city and we get all the new tech and stuff almost as fast as Silicon Valley does! laugh

Bored, bored, bored.  Nothing left to do but prep for turn-over tomorrow. indecision

Researching transit options, putting more money on my prepaid phone, looking over my bus trip itenerary.  An hour stop in Dallas, where I change buses.. looks like that's about lunch time, so it works out well.  The nus makes about 10 stops, some at places that sell food, so I don't need to load up on snacks.

I'm trying to decide if I should go to bed early Sunday and get up at 2AM or sleep late Sunday and stay up.. ugh.. no win there. indecision

Time to get breakfast.. I think.. BACONNNNNNNNNNNNNN! laugh

Cautiously she placed her fingers upon the handle... It was cool to the touch, perhaps just a handle like any other and for a moment she became relaxed, then in a heartbeat she remembered her long journey that brought here, the perils she faced and the tales of what lay beyond that door... Surely nothing by the design or crafting of mortal hands could be contained within that space... But still, it was just an ordinary white metal box... What if the stories were all just the ramblings of madmen and heretics... What if her long journey was for nothing and all her comrades she had lost along the way had spent their efforts for naught... No... no matter the cost, she come too far... In one brief moment that seemed to hang on the edge of eternity, the universe had stopped... Everything became clear, every step, every breath and every second of her life had led her to this moment and before doubt or fear could step in and stay her hand, she closed her eyes, firmly grasped the handle and threw open the door... She hesitated for a moment, for what lay within had not stuck her dead... Was it even real? As she opened her eyes, what she saw before her was more wondrous then all the legends had described. Tears streamed down her cheeks and she fell to her knees... If only the others who had so long ago been lost could see this, she thought to herself... And through her wonder and tears she could feel their presence... It felt as though a gentle hand had rested upon her shoulder to comfort her and a soft, kind voice was speaking to her... "Misty... Are you okay? Do you want me to call an ambulance or something hun?", said the voice. Was it her? Had very magic of legend repaired all that was lost?  "Misty... It's just a really nice cheesecake... We got it at CostCo..." Misty threw her arms around Linda, for it was true she had survived the long journey across the maintenance shop... And there was Ted sitting at the break table reading his Newsday, checking the lottery numbers... "She gets like that with fancy cheesecake" Ted said as he crossed out numbers... Over by the phone there was Phil and Lucy... They had survived too... "They said they'll be here in ten minutes... Are her pupils dilated... Does she have a fever or is she foaming at the mouth?... The 911 guy needs to know..." Phil said, holding his hand over the phone. Suddenly hands were lifting her up and she was being carried away, she felt light as a feather and she reached out to the cheesecake as it grew smaller and more distant... She closed her eyes... Was it all just a dream?

Sorry, that just stirred a vivid image of cheesecake love.

Is "Smartwater" the kind that you don't have to recycle in that torturous, odious, grafittied coffin at the back of the bus?
