I mainly use Genesis 2 still because I find it to be the most balanced model they have released.
It's like right in the middle of everything you need.
Must admit I've missed almost all of G2. I came back to DS two years into G8 (2019), having had a break from 2007. When I stopped, I was mostly using V3 as my PC couldn't cope with V4. As a result I largely missed V4, G1, G2 & G3. However, G3's pose, clothing and texture compatibility with G8 has meant I've tended to treat G3 as a Mk1 version of G8 and get G3 stuff as if it's native G8 (except shoes). However.. G2, is almost as new to me as G1 & V4
Could anyone recommend any particular products/freebies from G2 that you feel are stand-out? I have been very surprised with Naida & the Lorelei tail set - I'd been quite undecided about the G8F mermaid (Coral 8.1), and feel that I've landed on my feet with these sets. I have played with V3 and updated a character to create autofit clones for a number of generations (showing V3 wearing a G8F dress fitted by autofit and dForced afterwards.
), so I have a vague idea that many things are possible when updating older figures. I just need to know enough to realise what could be good to play with actually exists.
Am I right in that textures are compatible between V4 & G2F? Or is there an alternative UV set? And.. I'm sure I'm showing my ignorance here, does G2 come with a V4 autofit clone? If not, I may well get Sickleyield's V4 clone for G8F instead and then create an indirect one that way.

@carrie58 Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have many V4 items, but it may be interesting to get them so that I can use them on a character with autofit. I've been seriously thinking about creating a TriAx V4 (as I did with V3/A3 described in a tutorial here ) to enable other generation's clothing to work - but it involves a significant amount of time. However, the 'V4 for Genesis 2' product may swing the balance in the other direction. Will have to see if they are ever significantly discounted.
@mding Those are good suggestions. I have 2 items of the Ranger set already (must have been freebies at some time), but the rest are definitely worth the outlet price. They look really good. I have the morph set - they were needed to get some of Lyonesse's characters to work. And, much to my surprise, I have the core characters in my product library. They all show as having been freebies over the years, with purchase dates as early as 2021. No wonder I can't remember getting them, I can barely remember last week. I'm less keen on the monsters, I must admit.
As for untapped potential. I totally agree. When you look at the technical advances in rendering over the years, when applied to the older characters , it makes me so sad that no-one has taken the time to update the older ones, and assess how much of an advance has actually been made. I mostly use G8F, but the base character is only a relatively small advance over G3F (as shown by the huge levels of compatibility between them). I feel G9 has a disappointing level of technical advance over G8, being better in portrait close-ups, but the ease of accidentally noodling the joints and making the limbs look like rubber is a huge retrograde step. However there seems to be a huge difference between G2 & G3. I'm sure most of that is actually down to the introduction of Iray, and the older G2 characters not being updated to Iray.
@xyer0 Thanks. I had to look up what a 'maven' was. Not convinced you're right, but I try to share what little I do know. When I first saw the word 'Maven' I thought it might be related to the Hobbit word 'Mathom' as found in LOTR, and you were [rightly?] suggesting I was an unwanted lump to be passed around as fast as possible..

@richardandtracy: Personally, I don't see it as a problem if g2 can't be posed as well as later generations (esp. expressions) and wouldn't have been modeled as detailed as the following because of hardware limitations, which had to be considered at that time. Even if I use the original textures, I believe there is a lot, which still can be expressed with these assets. That, of course, is also true of every soon - to - be - outdated generation like g9, and I think it is a pitty and a waste, if we don't go back from time to time and use those assets and look at the old renders in the gallery, just because they might look less realistic than the current generation. Take for example https://gcdn.daz3d.com/p/17561/i/_product-page_newporttextures_.jpg , a promopic for the https://www.daz3d.com/newport-outfit-for-genesis-2-male-s-textures: Nothing special, but I love especially the arrangement of the plants on the ground and the peacefull day-to-day atmosphere conveyed - to me that will always be a nice picture typical for the g1 - g2 cosmos - a look and feel also created by the technical limitations of the time, but still imo it has its' own charm and beauty transcending the conditions under which it was created, which resonates with me and prevents g2 for me to feel outdated or obsolete. Meaning: IMO a generation doesn't replace the previous, but enriches our creative options.

Hi Richard, one outfit that absolutely stands out imo and has nothing comparable for any of the other figures is the Victorian dress: https://www.daz3d.com/the-victorian-gown-for-genesis-2-female-s. It's the reason why I chose G2 to run with when I came back to DAZ and stayed with it for a long time, because long dresses are always a mess to convert to other figures. It's an amazing set and has another texture set as well, I believe.
Secondly, there's the beautiful Sensibility series which was originally for V4 I believe, but there's a G2 version with all the add-ons available as well, and all the lovely texture expansions from before also work: https://www.daz3d.com/sensibility-for-genesis-2-females.

If anybody wants a freebie pose transfer script (V4, G3F or G8F to G2F) do please say. I've done pose transfer G2F to V4 and G8F, and have been thinking that I ought to go the other way. If you don't use G2 too often, it could be a better bet than spending money on a commercial script, but is rather less convenient to use. Regards, Richard.

Continuing my Maid Vs. Monster motif, Stephanie 6--finally getting to display her cuteness as a crypto-succubus--stands ready to dispatch Exile Alien (aliens are demons) bargaining for the firstborn while Witch Hunter Robin blithely looks on. Just another day on public transportation!
Stephanie 6 wears B25 Steam Punk Aviator V4 (still the bomb!) and Bootleggers G2F, for which I futilely lobbied BadKittehCo to issue a G8 version. Although her compromises were also fabulous, I felt they lacked the brazen sassiness of these swashbucklers. For the distraught G2F mother, I tried different Genesis 2, Genesis 3, and Genesis 8 skins (thanks Cayman Studios), and this is what I finally begrudgingly settled on. Now I realize I should've used Genesis 9, 'cause Daz finally got dark skin right in this generation. Oh well, I'll declare victory.
ETA: Stephanie 6 also sports Aery Soul's defunct Xenon wings. I remember the first time I saw the store promos for Xenon: What?!
@richardandtracy: I also liked it and bought it, although I will never use it, lol. The PA has done a lot of japanese environments, of which many are very generously part of the outlet store, too.

I had a few wishlisted G2 items go out of the Outlet. I like to keep my wishlist below 1 page, so I've culled them & will add them back if they return.
There have been a few goodies. Rather liked the Alessa bundle, and I hadn't realised there were squish morphs available for G2.
