    Genesis 1 Appreciation Thread:

Big news, everybody! I asked several times in the forum, if there already was a g2 thread here, but nobody told me so. Turns out @luci45 started a g1 and g2 thread in 2021 and she contacted me and referred to it now as the (up to now "missing") g1 thread (indeed the majority were g1 renders and very impressive ones btw.)

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/467826/genesis-the-early-years/p1

I believe there should be a seperate appreciation thread for every generation, so that is a huge step forward!!!

We still miss g3, g8/8.1, g9 and generation 4 appreciation threads, for all the fans out there ready go for it, btw!

Many thanks to @luci45 for the "new" thread and she even messaged she might contribute a g2 render for us!

    @felis: Thanks for the confirmation!

Ho hum. I'd forgotten contributing to that thread. And then I managed to post an image of G2 instead of G1. Clever, real clever.

    Regards,

    Richard

Hi Richard, you were absolutely right with that g2 render - it was originally a g1 and g2 thread. As I didn't know of it I started this g2 only thread, which led to the change of the other thread to the "new" g1 only thread. Don't think it is a problem to continue posting g2 renders there, but , of course, I hope you don't forget this thread and show your g2 renders here, too smiley

Ahh. 'Splains it. I will do G2 Renders to this thread, and I now have the other thread bookmarked for G1 renders. Not that I have done any except promo renders for pose transfer scripts. I totally missed out on G1, but feel less inclined to try it out than G2 - there's so much to learn about G2. And V4 too. Not sure I can cope with that at the moment, either. I have a number of things I want to do with V4 - do a TriAx version is one so that she can wear lots of clothing for other generations - in a high proportion of Rendo images with V4, most of V4's outer clothing seems to have been left indoors before she ventured out, and getting her a full complement of clothing suitable to wear outside might be good  wink - G8F's stuff is pretty good to share with V3, so I imagine V4 will benefit just as much.

    Regards,

    Richard

    Many thanks, Richard!

Considering the V4 TriAx version - that would really be a game changer for generation 4 - maybe you should consider selling a v4 and m4 version to daz3d? Products sooner or later go on sale, so that everybody can afford them in the long run, and  this would ensure it doesn't get lost if a freebie website goes down as it has happened to cgshare. Or maybe daz3d could add them to the original figures for free, if you would prefer that?

This one is about two outfits - the mysterious https://www.daz3d.com/plunge-dress-for-genesis-2-female-s by Trendy Renders (which has no assigned compatible figure) with its' https://www.daz3d.com/funky-textures-for-plunge-dress by OziChick and the https://www.daz3d.com/50-s-glam-for-genesis-2-female-s by OziChick using the imo wonderful https://www.daz3d.com/shox-design-50-s-glam-textures by (you guessed it) Shox-Design.

I don't do much with Genesis 2 - I got into Daz early in the G8 era, so I've only picked up odds and ends of G2 stuff (some of it through when Daz used to offer up old pro bundles as part of the deal for buying new ones).

So what I'm doing is going to be on a slightly different tack to the rest of this thread - I figured it would be interesting go through what I've got and see what G2 assets I had that I might want to make servicable so it can be used with my main cast and library.

For a starting point, Sensuale Lingerie seemed like a nice set (I forget why I originally picked it up, but it may just be "oh, that looks nice"). It also had fairly clean geometry that was easy to work with, so that's been refitted for G8F (along with also adding dForce so it could be elasticated and I wouldn't have to worry too much about bend correctives).

Olympia 6 converted to G8F/Iray (in her case, I did go to the trouble of bend correctives, so she's effectively now fully functional on the new base).

... and because I could, you're also getting this stupid version of the underwear:

@Matt_Castle: Many thanks! I must admit that because of your many renders I have seen in the forum, I was quite convinced, that you only buy lingerie for your much beloved centaurs laugh

These are beautiful renders, I like the dreamy / thoughtful / hesitant expressions you gave them, and the Olympia 6 conversion really looks great! I especially like your idea of going through what you already own in order to see what you can still use with more recent generations - basically this is also the idea of this thread: To look at the old products and maybe get inspired. So if we could get more renders from you that way, that would be fantastic!

The centaur lingerie pin-ups started as a joke because one day I looked in my library and had a "jeebus, how many underwear sets do I have that I've never used?!?!" moment.

I rarely render my main cast nude (I feel that sexualises and objectifies them, devaluing my effort to make them people), so when a scene would logically or reasonably have them undressed, I tend to render them in underwear. And I collected quite a lot of sets with that intention, before realising there was a load of them I was never using because they were too pin-up for the scenes and stories I was actually doing.

The idea of doing a run of centaur lingerie pin-ups was a funny idea I thought I could put into play to actually get some use out of those sets.

Fair enough. I figured I might have been stretching the intent of the thread a bit, but there's certainly some other things I found that I thought would be worth taking a look over. Not everything holds up well, not everything is worth the effort to get working (mind you, enough newer stuff is of questionable merit)... but there's some things for sure.

    "Furious Heroine"

This render is about https://www.daz3d.com/nomadic-huntress-for-genesis-2-female-s by Barbara Brundon and Shox-Design, a dramatic, quite complex outfit, as you can see. Unfortunately there seems to never have been created a texture add - on, but the outfit itself already includes five texture options. Starring https://www.daz3d.com/anaya-for-monique-6 by ForbiddenWhispers as the heroine using the classic https://www.daz3d.com/medea-hair-for-genesis-2-female-s-and-victoria-4 by SWAM. I used the original textures converted to Iray. IMO one of the many impressive fantasy outfits designed for g2. The pose is from https://www.daz3d.com/valkyrie-poses-for-shieldmaiden by FeralFey, the expression from https://www.daz3d.com/from-cowardice-to-heroism-for-genesis-2-female-s by AlFan.

@mding That's one powerful woman to be able to wield that axe in one hand..

And below is the strangely attractive new datacentre supervisor. She likes an informal chat whenever she can get one to break the monotony of feeding the hampsters.

Assets: Naida, Workday Dress 2, Ranger hair. Fountain pens, ink bottle, wooden pen tidy, writing pad, ballpoints, ballpoint pen tidy, desk & drawer pods: all freebies of mine available here & at Renderosity. Desk chairs - Ravenstone & someone else's freebie at Renderosity. Monitors: freebies at from apcgraficos at Rendo dating to Feb 2014. The server room is this Datacentre.. obtained as freebie in September 2023.

If you look at the monitor behind Naida, she's modelling up the scene she's in, using DS.

    Regards,

    Richard

@richardandtracy: Well, in my render, that is not an axe, it is an ........ halberd - I guess I won't receive a price for realism laugh

Many thanks for your render - you put a lot of details into that nice everyday scene! The scales on Naida look a tiny little bit creepy, but she definitely is a great character. I love the workday dress, a real g2f classic. Could you share, if it doesn't take you too long, where her shoes come from? I know them, just can't find them. Your freebies are very impressing, when I look at your Rendo freebie site, it is really huge - Many thanks for that, also!

  • richardandtracyrichardandtracy Posts: 7,077

Axe Halberd. Oops. I thought it was just the fact the blade seemed to be visible on edge. However, from the real Halberd's I've seen, you'd need to be mighty powerful to wield them with one hand. I generally don't know mediaeval weapons well enough to name them correctly, I'm afraid.

I will look the shoes up - I don't remember them off hand, which is why I didn't say what they were. Can't get to my rendering machine for another 10 hours or so, will look them up when I do. They come with spikes on the heels and a cross too (both hidden in the render).

The scales, yes. I thought they looked vaguely reminiscent of fishnet pattern tights, so long as you don't look too closely! I noticed that the squish morphs are not set to auto-follow for the clothes. Need to do something about that.

    Regards,

    Richard

  • mdingmding Posts: 1,640

Hi Richard, from the angle you couldn't really see the halberd. The product page shows it in all its' beauty. It even has five texture options.

Not neccessary to look up the shoes, I will stumble upon them sooner or later, but many thanks!

About Genesis 2 Male I like that there's quite a variety of everyday clothing outfits. In this example you can see https://www.daz3d.com/berlin-city-spirit-fashion-for-genesis-2-male-s by outoftouch using the https://www.daz3d.com/berlin-city-spirit-xpansion by the same PA, while on the right you can see https://www.daz3d.com/alternate-identity-for-genesis-2-male-s by Nikisatez and Sarsa which includes five texture options (and a jacket I didn't use here). Shoes on the left are from https://www.daz3d.com/leather-shoes-for-genesis-2-male-s by Cute3D.

The shoes are https://www.daz3d.com/noir-outfit-for-genesis-2-female-s. Males serve two purposes in my images - 1) To be boorish or 2) To have rings run around them by the mentally much more agile women. The latter feels depressingly close to reality. Whatever the cause, the result is I have very limited needs for males.

    Richard

@richardandtracy: Many thanks for your effort Richard, a very interesting outfit!

Concerning what you said about males, I am pretty sure, that if we wouldn't live in a patriarchalic (or matriarchalic) society, there wouldn't be many (if any) gender related behavioural differences left. I try to take that into account in my perception of males and females and try to maintain therefore a quite distanced stance towards both sexes, humans in general and, of course, myself, while always trying to look behind the detrimental circumstances we have to live in, which lead to our so deplorable flaws. Male or female, whatever we are, I perceive us as much weaker and with much less selfcontrol than we generally tend to think of ourselves. That gives me the hope, that in the future, we might all change considerably to the better and in the present i can try to imagine what that might look like.

So here you can see, that Genesis 2 can even make us ponder over philosophical issues smiley

@mding and @richardandtracy, cool renders you guys! And mding, thanks for the recommendation on (of?) the Berlin Fashion clothes, these seem really nice. I wish that older figure outfits were generally significantly cheaper than new ones, it's kind of weird the base prices are so hight still. But I'll just wait for a good sale on these.

Now this one is about https://www.daz3d.com/ciao-belle-outfit-for-genesis-2-female-s by Mada for which there is also https://www.daz3d.com/ciao-bella-outfit-textures by Nikisatez available, but I used the texture from the basic product here. And one top G2M classic, known and owned by most G2 users, I guess, the https://www.daz3d.com/newport-outfit-for-genesis-2-male-s by Mada and Sarsa with https://www.daz3d.com/newport-outfit-for-genesis-2-male-s-textures by Sarsa. The Pose has been taken from https://www.daz3d.com/affection-poses by JGreenlees, the expressions from https://www.daz3d.com/smile-delight-for-genesis-2-bundle by Cake One.

I converted the skins to SkinPBR shader - why - because I could. For the skins I had to play with the settings to get them kind of what I wanted.

I also used all the G2 swimwear I have - unless there is something hidden elsewhere.

@felis: Very impressive work with the skin textures! And the poses and expressions are really lovely, too! From the swimwear you used, https://www.daz3d.com/cross-halter-bikini-for-genesis-2-female-s by Nikisatez with the accompanying https://www.daz3d.com/textures-for-cross-halter-bikini by OziChick is one of my absolute favorites. The other two https://www.daz3d.com/sunny-swimsuit-hd by Elele with https://www.daz3d.com/venice-beach-for-sunny-swimsuit-hd by ShanasSoulmate and https://www.daz3d.com/milena-s-bikini-for-genesis-2-female-s by outoftouch with https://www.daz3d.com/horizon-for-milena-s-bikini by ShanasSoulmate are equally Genesis 2 Female classics. Many thanks!

The pose is largely based on one of my G8F everyday walking poses. However, I've not yet written a G8F to G2F pose transfer script, so it's no more than 'A bit like the pose', as opposed to being the same pose. Regards, Richard.
