so why they blowing me off?
Yeah, that was more my point. There's no use in it being fancy if it's not /functional/. I'm not here so I can evaluate/be impressed with the artistic skill of the web designers. I'm here to (hopefully) buy things.
I guess that's a critical difference. I don't care whether I buy things on any given day - I objectively have more than enough things to last me for years. It doesn't mean I don't sometimes want to or that I won't continue to buy things; but it's not critical. And I do evaluate and am frequently impressed by what the web designers are doing because they do so much of it all the time! I don't think the designers are responsible for making the sale code work. I could be wrong on that. Don't know for sure, doesn't seem likely.
Also, I shop at the other stores. I find a mediocre sale here is usually as good or better than the best sales at the other stores. A great sale here is unmatched anywhere else. And yet, the other stores have their moments. When I want their items, I buy them. And I've bought a lot of their items, too.
Considering that most sales here nowadays call for a buy-in of something I don't need, want or can't use, a simple "get 65% off of a item, no strings attached, no hoops have to be jumped through" attracts me more than a "90% off when you buy something for 30% off, too", especially when the products offer as many options and most of the time have a higher base price, too
[delete, didn't see the items were also on the fast grab page]
Me neither... It's a shame some products get vaulted... There's a lot of amazing old stuff (and not to be used only in the background).
B.T.W., beware of this myth, they're easy on resources. You know V4 has more polys than any Genesis figure, right? I guess things weren't subd'ed back then, so they had to do everything with more polys. So, when you use old stuff, always check the polys. They're usually lighter in textures, but polys not so much.
Sadly, personal budget means I sit out both those types.
I'll be bummed when whatever's dropping the LD prices super low cycles out of the rotation, though. I've wound up making a bunch of mini purchases over the last week or so, all at 90%+ off. A few have been off my wishlist, but several have also been old pose sets that I wouldn't normally look twice at, but for 78-cents or similar... sure! I'm sure there's some part of that at some point that I'll get 78-cents worth of use out of.
Oh boy, another catch-up sale.
About to reach the final month of my Daz+ Membership, from before the price change/restructuring can't say anything has happened in the last 6 months or so to convince me to change my mind that continuing with the membership will be justified for the price.
My spending this year has been waaaay down on previous years, which either is a result of the sales themselves not been inviting enough, or that being the middle tier member is a dud option.
Basically now only spend on the LD when it seems to combine with another sale to get stuff into the 90%+ off
Onto todays offering, not sure why a catch up sale on things I decided not to buy would be considered excited
Not so excited about the catch-up part, but a bunch of older stuff on my WL dropped in range due to factors I'm not going to bother figuring out. I'll likely build a smallish thing with some opportunistic stuff and then wait to pull the trigger until later in the day in case there's a good flash that comes up. (Or I hit the jackpot with a LD bundle for something I'd use...)
The factor is usually simply the release date: products are "new" for 60 days, then they can take part of back catalog sales. The "recent", "classic" and "legacy" subcategories are also based on how old the product is.
Understood, but these are considerably older than anything that would qualify as "recent." They might've aged from classic -> legacy, but it's more likely the new artists added with the catch-up sale is the culprit, possibly with them stacking with offers from the other tiles. (No idea what's on the other tiles or how it stacks, currently -- cart jenga is going to take more focus and spoons than I've got at the moment.)
I guess maybe my sarcasm wasn't obvious.
@SilverGirl > Today's sale include something like 29000 items from various PAs, with discount ranging from 60% to 85%.
It's possible there is also stacking discounts in play but they are trying to avoid items being part of multiple sales when possible. Which doesn't mean that can't happen, I'm not sure even Daz is always understanding exactly how sales are interacting with each other, so on our end, it's not always easy to first figure what's happening, second figure it's something intended or not.
Heh, no, I caught it. And that was my reaction, too, until I saw the stuff on my WL dropped.
Yeah. I'm giving my WL a second go-through... tossing things in my cart that I might be otherwise on the fence about, but given the direction things are going, I no longer trust that the "always another sale" will be a /good/ sale when it happens. It's already been ages and ages since we had a D+ sale that dropped the older stuff on my list into the 70-cent (and below) range pre-discounts. I'd left it on my list then thinking it would be good filler to bring up a cart that was just slightly short at a later date, and now I'm regretting it.
Might not wait to check out, just in case something IS functioning not-as-intended. Don't want all my effort going to waste again.
I bought a 50% off Wishlist item because our dollar rose slightly to 0.61USD
not a huge bargain but was an inexpensive texture addon I wanted
The V4 poly count thing is true, but not the whole story. Base V4 is a lot lighter than G8 with the level 5 subD used for some characters with extreme HD morphs. Also, there are more resolution options for V4. If you use the Advance Options at load time for V4/M4 and look in the mesh resolution tab, you can add 1k, 2k, 4k and 17k LOD meshes. You can also add SubD high resolution options. If you want to load these options later, you can also do that in Edit -> Geometry submenu. 1k looks pretty rough, 17k is not too bad. It's also possible to convert old V4 characters to a more recent generation.
Apparently we need to catch up? It's not even a weekend. Even so, I see a few things I might drop in the cart.
well, I'm not getting much of a discount, even using my $10 PA coupon with 8 tokens. 72% off. the discount was 60% before adding in the tokens and $10 coupon. Its not worth it, although the coupon expires today. I still have tokens for 4 days.
Last day of the month?
Day ends in -y?
Erm... is the LOYAL-CUSTOMERS voucher working for anyone? I've tried it a few times over the past couple of days but niente. 'Coupon code not Valid', or whatever the standard phrase is. Eyeroll.
Have you maybe used it already? It's been active for quite a while.
Ha, that's so something I would do - but not on this occasion, no. :)
It's the coupon that was given out for the 25 years of DAZ celebration a few days ago. I thought too that i surely hadn't used it, but I did then, and just didn't think the coupon would stick around nevertheless.
Cool. Gonna check that. But, when you say it's lighter, are you talking about the meshes only? Like, and it's a serious question, how can a poly-rich mesh can be lighter than one with fewer polys? Is this with those lower LOD configs only or there's something I'm missing? You know, I bought those Lorenzo and Loretta, but I think I wasted my money because they have ~4k polys and look awful... Unless I'm using them far away, I think it's better to use one base resolution (no subd) G3/8 with lorez textures (or no texture at all, depending on the distance from the camera). It will be just 2x the polys... But if you gimme a reason to use Lorenzo and Loretta, I'll feel better for not having wasted my money...
And it will be surprise extended at least twice.
The 1 Dollar sale today is really nice though I think. There's a buy-in, but quite varied stuff to choose from, and I wanted to get one of the new hairs anyway. With 1 new and 1 still new that I both wanted, I got 6 really good items for 1 buck each. Thanks DAZ and PAs! And have a lovely May 1 everyone.
