I got lost in my own dream last night... No clue where I was... Then I realized it's a dream and I have no clue where I am in any other one of those, I just never feel lost in them.

It's all in your head, you have no idea where you really are, because you are never in the same place twice and we are all moving at the speed of light... Just the opposite direction, obviously.

(You stand on the Earth surface, the Earth spins at what speed on it's own axis? You are traveling that fast too.)

    Add that to...

(You are on the Earth, the Earth spins around the sun at what speed? You are traveling that speed + earth-surface-speed, unless you are traveling that speed - earth-surface-speed as it rotates around to the inside edge of the circle.)

    Add that to...

(The solar-system is in the Milky-way galaxy, it spins at what speed around the central black-hole that is sucking us into the core? You are traveling that speed + earth-solar-orbit + earth-surface-rotation speed, or all minus, or a combination of + and -.)

    Add that to...

(The milky-way galaxy is in orbit with other galaxies as we hurdle through space as a whole, towards or away from other large-mass collections of galaxies, orbiting around a super-dense volume of unbound blackness called dark-matter, the space between galaxies is not empty, as the space between me and you is not empty, as the space between the things between the space of the things between you and I are not devoid of matter. You are traveling that speed + galaxy-speed + solar-system-speed + earth-speed... And you could be completely still, relative to the earth or me!)

This is why anti-gravity and time-travel is impossible. If you go back into time, HERE ten seconds ago.. the earth was not HERE yet, in space... it will be in a few seconds, and it will hit you traveling trillions of miles an hour, turning you into a comet as you enter the earths atmosphere, if you could have held your breath for those ten seconds in space, and you didn't travel the same speed as the earth, after you teleported. You can't anti-gravity, because gravity is relative to the surface of the earth. Mass-attraction is gravity, you would have to negate the MASS of the entire universe to NEGATE gravity. Then, you would not have anything holding you to earth, and you would become stationary in space, while earth flew away at trillions of miles an hour, or it impacted you at millions of miles an hour, without your gravitational/centrifugal-force to balance-out the throw-off that keeps you upright on the surface and stops you from squishing into the depths of the planet's core itself.

    I don't even eat sandwiches!

....interesting I had a discussion along similar lines this past Sunday with this one fellow who volunteers at the local Railway Museum.

    ...save for the sandwiches.

I left my brand new bus pass at home.  I got a free ride to work today but need to figure how to get home.  I might have to pay for a one way pass but hopefully not full price.

    Friday, but complaints!!!

Forum went into sign-in/sign-out loop for ages, had to restart my browser.  Bus didn't show up so had to spend emergency cab money.  Then came into the office and my development software decided to de-license itself.  Dead in the water now.  And I had planned on being out testing by now.

At least I got paid, and it's all-you-can-eat fried fish tonight.smiley

...ahh, the ol' Friday Night Fish Frys. One of the traditions I miss having left Wisconsin.  There is only one place I know of here in town that offers lake perch (the quintessential Fish Fry fish) and sadly it's not all you can eat as well as very expensive (like 18$ for a few flour breaded fillets).  Salmon is the big seller out here, but I cannot eat it (kind of like living in Wisconsin and being lactose intolerant).

..speaking of fish, blackened cajun fish, my special garlic & tarragon roasted red potato wedges, and buttered baby carrots is on the menu for tonight.

Didn't win the midweek Megabucks, now up to 6$ million.  That will be about 145,000$ per year after taxes on the annuity plan. Think I could finally afford a flat in Portland on that. Crikey I could stash half that away each year in a secondary retirement account which would give me another 15 - 20 years income and still live much better than I did in my last job.

...or maybe move to Santa Fe.

Experts and professional investors say to take the full cash award (which is really only half the advertised jackpot before taxes) and invest it, but outside of buying my three weekly tickets, I'm not much of a gambler and that only makes life more complicated than I want it to be.  Of course the real reason they suggest this is so that you will pay them to go deal with managing your accounts and portfolio.

first thing i gotta do is come up with a better name than weredragons.  werewolves sounds tough, weredragons not so much.

start some bread dough and yeast, let it rise o/n, bake some home made bread maňana.

wrangle Alphabase into carrara.  read the starry sky readme.

It doesn't matter which numbers you pick.  Each pick set is independent of all previous pick sets.  Any number sequence is equally likely to occur. 1,2,3,4,5,6 is just as likely as 33,34,35,36,37,38 or 2,23,35,44,47,1.  It doesn't matter whether you chose the number or you let "QuickPick" pick your numbers.  It makes no difference in the probability of your numbers matching the winning numbers.   No patterns, no magic, no praying, no system is ever successful.  It's all just dumb luck, anecdotal coincidences.  Each drawing is independent of all past or future drawings, it doesn't make any difference.  Thinking so is just wishful thinking.  It makes no difference. cheeky  And the only sure thing is that if you don't play you won't win. enlightened

Actually, if you pick numbers greater than 31 your odds are slightly better, as many people use birthdays.  You still get better odds at a casino.

ETA:  I should clarify -- your odds of having your numbers picked is the same, but the odds of having to split the prize are less.

Every time I don't purchase a lottery ticket, I have the price of a lottery ticket more than I would have had otherwise.  I think I AM winning this game.  :-)

Yeah, I know, I'm no fun.

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 42,165

...yeah but 1$ or 2$ doesn't even get you a palatable cup of coffee these days.

  • srieschsriesch Posts: 4,243

$1 or $2 isn't bad.  I once worked with somebody who dumped $70 into a single lottery drawing. (he didn't win.) Yikes!   :-)  I don't know if that was an exception, or if that was a regular thing.  How often do lottery tickets come out, every week?   hmmm... $70 x 52 weeks/year x 30 years = $109,200.00 .  I bet he didn't do that though, that had to have been an exception.  I think I've purchased 2 tickets, one of which cost $5, so I'm probably only suffered a $10 lifetime loss.   Then again I also know somebody who viewed buying a lottery ticket just like buying a movie ticket, and figured it was another entertainment cost, like seeing a movie, that made him happy since he could spend all week dreaming about winning even though he knew he probably wouldn't.

...now that is an addict.  70$ will not significantly change the odds from 1$ or 2$.  Used to have a press operator who on payday would go to the pub near our workplace and dump 100 to 150$ into the "Video Crack" machines (what many of us here call the video poker machines). She rarely broke even. Would watch her put 20 after 20 in and wince as just one would easily cover my tab for the entire evening.

As to the Cinema, I rarely go to a "first run" one anymore as the prices are ridiculous. 12 - 16$ just to get in and another 15 - 20$ for refreshments. I usually wait until a film that I want to see hit the "second run" market as then I only have to pay 3$ for admission and maybe another 7$ for a pint of good beer and slice of well made pizza. Total cost less than just the admission to a mainstream cinema.
