    Ooh, I love Godiva chocolatey stuff. When I moved to Washington DC in the 80s, it was the first really big city I'd lived in and I discovered Godiva. We lived just a few blocks from the DC Union Station and after it was refurbished into a super fancy mega mall, a Godiva kiosk opened in the transfer isle between the re-guilded old waiting room, restaurant area and the still operational ticketing hall and 1st floor of the upscale shopping center. Union Station was a stop on the DC Metro so it was easy to just pop in and grab a few choice delicacies for exorbitant prices before going home.

    Nowdays though you can find a Godiva rack in a second-rate drug store in the boondocks but back then Godiva was really special and hard to find.

    Wednesday, Hump Day! Kiss a camel... :gulp:

    Took today off to kick off the beginning of the end. Re-contacted some placement agencies, am cleaning up my resume' and creating a one-page summary (of over 35 years and dozens of jobs, lol)! Also prepping to switch machines.. soon this laptop will be in the "clean up" position and Charybdis will be front and center.

    Hopefully next week I will be able to reformat and re-install Win7 on this machine. I'm going to try to turn her into a secure, wireless NAS server. :blank:

    New wishlist whines: not on Daz, but Musicians Friend! :bug: Found a second set of headphones for critical listening that have a frequency response from 8Hz (!!) to 30JHz (!!)! ;ahhh: That's the widest range I've for form under $300.. and found another miniature MIDI controller I want. :red: I swear, gear addiction is worse than content addiction... :bug:

    Off to find food and clean out storage containers.. I think beef quesadilla for lunch! :cheese:

    ..so true on gear addiction.

    In my case back in the 90s, it was kite addiction. I was making good money in the early part of the decade so dropping 300 -400$ on a high performance sport or power kite was nothing. I'd routinely travel around the nation going to different festivals and competitions (ahh, the days before the airlines were taken over by Ebenezer Scrooge) and usually able to upgrade to First Class off miles every couple trips.

    Air travel was so cheap back during the fare wars (at one point, 19$ each way between Portland, OR and Oakland) I used to regularly head down to the Bay Area to practise my competition performances at the beach at by Golden Gate Park . Even with a night or two at a hotel (always stayed at this really nice inexpensive one right in the city) it didn't cost much more than taking the expensive airport shuttle to the Oregon coast (after Running Dog had ceased service there) and spending as much if not more for a hotel room (summer high season rates) than I did in San Francisco. I actually became such a "fixture" of the Bay Are kite scene, that the local sport kite club there kept trying to get me to become a member..

    I must have maybe 3,000 - 4000$ invested in all my kiting gear. still all in very good condition. Just no place to fly anymore as bus service to the coast is still lousy and expensive.

    Maybe I should consider relocating to someplace like the Outer Banks because I really miss it.

    I personally can't wait to leave Tulsa, I definitely don't fit in here...

    Funny how a hobby can expand to consume all available money? It's crazy.. I think for music gear I'm up to about $2500, not including the new laptop. :bug:

    Sigh, back to downloading, re-installing, and re-authorizing... :blank:

    Yeah, it can be tough when you feel out of place.

    I'm currently living back in my little upstate NY, very conservative hometown after college and a long career in progressive parts of the country. Just finding someone that understands my level of vocabulary is difficult. And forget about jokes that require the least bit of scientific or political knowledge to grasp.

    I came back here to retire because it was cheap and quiet. The natives are nice enough but stuck in the 50s. If it weren't for the Internet I believe I'd turn into one of them. I really really miss having interesting talks with people for more than 30 seconds and using more than 100 word vocabularies.

    ...the heat wave beginnith here today. 94° the high for today kicking off a stretch of mid 90s to low 100s through the 4th. Received a weather bulletin email this morning from the regional weather service office that mentioned it is very unusual for such a heatwave of this magnitude occurring this early in the season.

    ...and as I mentioned, the usual hottest time of the summer here is still a month away.

    Looks like I'll be scheduling my render sessions during early mornings and late nights for a while. Already noticing core temps about 5 - 6° (C) warmer in idle mode just from the surrounding ambient temperature. A test render I did yesterday evening sent core temps into the mid 70s, never seen them that high. Usually they run in the upper 50s - mid 60s (C). Even the HDD temps were in the lower to mid 40s (C) and usually those rarely ever reach 40° (C).

    Actually haven't been needing blankets for a couple weeks. Temps in the flat usually don't become uncomfortable until August, however, the uncharacteristically warm, dry winter and spring has caused the surrounding ground, to heat up earlier than normal so my "natural air conditioning" hasn't been functioning for a while now.

    ...we have something similar here as well but you need to be disabled to the point that you are unable to ride the normal buses/trams (which are all low floor and very accommodating to people with walkers or in wheelchairs/mobility scooters) and/or in an area where the bus is unable to use the fold out ramp (due to no sidewalk/curb) in order to qualify for the service..

    Are you speaking Computer again, Misty?

    This is where I am:

    x = 0
    ans = 0
    itersLeft = x
    while (itersLeft ! = 0)
    ans = ans + 1

    not finished

    My A/C decided to quit so I came to the YMCA to use their WiFi and A/C while doing some of my homework.

    ans will never be anything but zero! The loop will never be entered because the value of itersLeft is already out of range for the test result.

    I don't see array syntax anywhere. itersLeft is set to be equal to x. x = 0. That is an integer, not an array of integers. Therefore, itersLeft = 0. The condition (itersLeft != 0) means itersLeft is not equal to zero. However, it is already equal to zero, so the while loop will never be entered. So ans will never be incremented. Since ans is French for years, the person will never age! Which might be a pleasant concept, except that the person will never be born, either.

    Whatever else is included in the while loop will also never be executed.

    possibly what is missing is an array called iters, x = value of array length would make sense :)

    If you really want to think so...but it still would mean that the loop is never entered. But an assignment with syntax like that usually, even for an array, assigns a value...not a dimension or size. For an array iter_array(1), code like that would assign iter_array(1) the value of zero if the language being used had arrays with 1 based dimensions. If the language had zero based dimensions, iter_array(0) would be assigned a value of zero, iter_array(1) would still have its original value, or nothing.

    Now, if itersLeft (which I take to mean iterations remaining) were not assigned the value of zero right off, then perhaps the loop could be entered. But, if it were never decremented inside the loop, then the loop would become an endless loop. Neither result is desirable. If left running, ans would come to have an incredibly, increasingly, large value. And the CPU might overheat if there was more going on inside that loop, like some heavy calculations.

    I should stop now...this shouldn't be a programming lecture. :)
