Got my new GTX 760 installed and running as a second card.

    Total render time 10 mintues!!!!!
That's a massive boost, previously the same render took 1.5 hours on a AMD 8320 (8x3.5Ghz) CPU

...they are already talking about MBs that list 1600MHz as one of the set memory speeds. Would be nice if I was sure about mine as there is a Corsair 24 GB kit for only 189$.

I wonder if I can find this out in the BIOS Settings?

    Possibly
From the product page 1600 isn't listed and I can't find that model on Asus's website may have been discontinued and replaced with newer version
    Found this for ram at Newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100007611 600564620 600564631 600564625 600564650 600006081
About $220.00 however it's excellent ram
I have used this companies ram before and had absolutely no problems with their product

Something to consider last time I bought ram I found it was cheaper to buy two 16 gb kits than one 32 gb kit might hold true for what you need as well

This was the one I was looking at that they said was no longer available (with the big red dialogue box at the top of the product page which usually means it's obsolete) and for which they suggested the two 1600MHz kits.as an option. Interesting that is is available again.

Normally it's better to have all the sticks in a kit cut from the same die to avoid any quality control issues.

That's the one and shoeing in stock
True however the two kits that I ordered had consecutive serials on them although that may have been coincidence and luck

...put it back on the wishlist until I can scrape up the funds.

Still also need to come up with another 135$ or so for a WIn7Pro OEM (I know 8.1 home is cheaper but the UI is nauseating and I won't work with everything in full screen mode).

Maybe I'll win more than 8$ in the megabucks tonight.

Running 8.1 on dual monitors boots up to the desktop not that mess of tiles or whatever and works pretty much the same as my Win7 ultimate except for the start button and the charms thing coming out the right side when I get the mouse in the right position (upper right corner) long enough

...but don't you need some third party fix to get the "classic" desktop as well as the start menu back (I tend to use the latter a lot)?

Would hate it when I'm making a slider adjustment and have some stupid menu I don't need pop up out of the side of the screen. As I also understand (and mentioned) 8.1 opens everything in "full screen" mode. I never use full screen mode save for the Daz viewport on the second display (I pretty much have all my tabs on the other to get the most viewport "real estate" I can.

May just wait and get the commercial OEM of Win 10 Home for 119$ when it comes out so I can keep control over updating. Who, knows, maybe Newegg will do an introductory sale like they did with Win 8 and sell it for 89$ or 99$..

For the start button you do at least until Win 10 comes out
Have yet to accidently open anything when the charms menu comes out it is annoying when it does but doesn't happen often and I understand that it can be turned off just haven't done it as it don't happen that often

This only took 40 minutes and all this stuff was in the scene with my Titan X. Sun-Sky only. A little postwork.

(It's weird 'cause it's for an RRRR contest.)

real time no speed up , sometimes it looks like don't render then jump to 100%

also skip the first middle part of the video made some rendering tests
and time, may looks little choppy but my screen recorder was on 24fps

...[wipes drool off desk and keyboard]

OK, I wonder If I could get a Kickstarter going to build that workstation I designed. :cheese:

That is incredible. I was timing the render tests at around 22 seconds. at 1200 x 900 my Chevy/Yosemite HDRI Picnic Scene takes just over on hour to get to 100%.

Imagine what four of these beasties could do (and the MB I'm looking at will support that many). It would almost be like having your own personal mini VCA.

    Oh c'mon Megabucks Lotto.

Cool video! Congratz on getting those titans and I hope you had a happy birthday :)

I tried a bigger scene. This rendered for 5 hours with 100% CPU. Its still grainy because I stopped the render at 80% with almost 6000 iterations because I needed my computer for something else and I couldn't even open a browser lol
Is there a way to set how much CPU Iray can use? I have a geforce 770GTX but its useless here.

$999 each at Nvidia - http://www.geforce.com/geforce-gtx-titan-x/buy-gpu and not much more at Newegg for EVGA or ASUS cards.

...yep, that's the pricing I've been going with going with.

For the price of one Quadro M6000 you could get 4 of these monsters and have incredible rendering speed as well as an extra 1,000$ left in your pocket.

    Hi medeia, nice render.

You can set how much CPU a program uses through the Task Manager, that is assuming you are using a multi-core processor, i5 - i7 etc.

This is how I do it on a Windows 8 machine and I think it would be the same on W7.

    1. Before you start the render open the Task manager (right click on Task Bar and click on Task Manager) when it opens click on the Details Tab.

    2. In the Details pane right click on the program (in this case DAZ) and in the dialogue box that opens select Set Affinity.

    3. Another box will open with a list of all the cores on your processor.

    4. Now all you need to do is uncheck the cores you don't want DAZ to use. I have a Core i7 so I usually uncheck cores 7 and 6 freeing up 25% of the processor. Click OK and your done.

Now start the render and the CPU will only use the cores you left checked and the cores you unchecked will be available to do other things.

    Hope this helps you.

    @MEC4D
thank a lot for this interesting video that gives me an idea how to accelerate my workflow.
But I must admit that the car is not really a big power eater in this scene example.

Could you please enlighten us with another (shorter) video to see iray in action with a model (V6/M6) and a more complex outfit and some (power eater) hair?
that'll help many of us to see a power station in action. (and gain some time making the renders)
    thx in advance.

In addition to this, I'd like to add my 2c about titan price.
If you don't need the 12GB, you can go to the 6GB 980 Ti which gives pretty much the same results for almost half the price! And 6GB is enough for most of us ;-)

    Hi Cath,

Your video was very impressive and the speed of those renders were incredible. It would be nice to see some more examples with a few props and people. :)

May I ask what is the specifications of your computer...for example the CPU and installed ram....so I can gauge what other hardware is supporting your Titan X cards. I am still looking at building a X99 chipset computer and so looking at all the options.
Sorry if you have already discussed this before, but with literally hundreds of Iray related posts to plough through, I thought I would ask. ;-P

Kind regards, and looking forward to more examples of what your new Titan X cards are capable of.

    Cheers :-)

I think Mec4D's were Super-clicked, not regular (manufacturer over-clocked) - I imagine that pushed the price up a bit.

Quite possibly, though, I haven't seen one for more than $1300, from the usual suspects, and the price that is more common is between $999 and $1100.

Of course in the UK it is likely to be a little higher. :)

Amazon UK has them between 800 and 900 pounds.
