Oh ho! That makes me feel loads better and more apt to use G2M... Thank you!
I do static stuff, so a bit of tweaking with a beard is orders easier than, say, trying to get dynamic cloth to fit right. ;)
Rareth, is that a grue?

You're welcome.
And I know what you mean… I've not had much luck with dynamic cloth. Though I have to admit, I haven't spent much time with it, either, since I got the controller. And then there's this beta to distract me further. (As if I really needed any more distractions!)
Creatures for Genesis 2 (males) a little of this and a little of that.. and lots of teeth
From Zork, circa 1980:
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
> what is a grue?
The grue is a sinister, lurking presence in the dark places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.
can't be a grue then, there's enough light to make out the beasty.
zork... holy crap that brings back memories
I understand the dilemma...it's something I have struggled with too, after investing a lot in Genesis content. Eventually I decided to use G2F and G2M for pretty much all my human and nearly-human characters, and Genesis for creatures, toon/anime renders, and occasionally an androgynous character.
I used Genesis here, for my character Orinn who is both non-human (a dwarf) and androgynous (for various reasons, she finds it advantageous to adopt a male persona, false beard and all).
I'm not 100% satisfied with this portrait yet, but I think it's coming along pretty well...I used one of the Yosemite HDR's (with Environment turned up to 5). Orinn uses Santo for M5 skin (settings tweaked quite a bit, but I haven't converted the skin shader from Ubersurface to Iray yet) and a whole bunch of different morphs, including Mec4D's Neanderthal and smay's Dwarf Creator (converted to Genesis with GenX2). The outfit uses elements of Night Guard, Caput Caseum, Pirate for Genesis and G2M, and a few other things that aren't visible in this shot.
My main concerns at this point are the odd checkerboard pattern on the column and some of the other surfaces...I think I've seen others mention this, but I don't recall seeing a solution; and the fact that the backdrop seems a bit washed-out. Any ideas on improving that would be appreciated.
Lit by the morning sun only (i.e. Iray's built in sun, set to early morning and to shine from the direction I wanted it from), not an HDRi, since having the HDR-environment reflect in the paint and chrome of the cars makes it harder to make out the colors and lines of them.
Iray is very good at handling shiny objects, including cars...
Hrm. Is there some trick to it? This is totally not working for me. The mustache just hovers an inch from a smiling face.
Another Iray render with cars, this time with an HDR environment.
The lovely Roisin..
Nice render and a really nice composition.
It started out as merely gruesome, but grew some.
Skin builder, Stacia, and charm hair (charm hair worked REALLY well, even stripped of all diffuse/spec texture maps, very happy)
I agree they aren't right, but then again, she isn't human, so looking for human eyes is wrong; but some of the depth of human eyes would be good.
Love the render though.

When I was researching Unshaven, I came across several threads on it. In one, the poster said to select "full-body" under the Fit-To popup, so that's what I did. You might give that a try. (I think it's full body. I'm rendering now, or I'd go look at it.)
Hide & Seek...
When you "turn up" the Environment, you make the HDRI lighter. That's giving you the washed out look. Try setting it lower, even back down to 1, and use other Render settings to make your foreground lighter.
In Tone Mapping, for example, lower the fstop, decrease the value in for the Shutter Speed (lower numbers mean slower shutter and more light getting in,) or just move the exposure value. (If memory serves, the higher that value, the lighter the image. Can't check right now, as I'm rendering...)
In Environment settings, I think you can increase or decrease the lumens of the sun, but I know you can change the size. It's set to 4 by default. Try setting that to higher value.
And if you are using Dome + Scene, you can also use the lights. Either photometric spotlight(s) or photometric point light(s).
(I have no clue about the checkerboarding... :( )
That would be a seriously myopic pair of beer goggles. :D
My first DS render since...I guess ten years...Usually I use only Poser Pro (sometimes Reality for Poser). I don't like to wait for a render so I gave DS with that Iray a try and I'm pleasantly surprised. I have not the slightest idea how the material settings in DS work so I was glad I did not have to change anything for this scene (I changed the two paintings on the wall in the textures but that was easy). In Poser I have to change the material settings for clothes to unfiltered. Here the clothes look better and especially the tank top is lying naturally above his underwear. Still there is a lot too much to learn about the material and light settings. I will stick with Poser and hope they come up with something similar. But I have to admit I'm tempted to play with DS now more than just use it to convert old DS files to Poser companion files - which also works great for me.
One M5 (left) and M6 (sitting right) in the Suite 2101 (which I could barely use in Poser because some props don't load correct).
...that's really nice.
Gorgeous! I even like that it's grainy, adds to the atmosphere.
Nothing I do seems to work. I've tried Genesis/full-body, Unassigned/full-body, and a bunch of other options. In every case, the mustache sides hover outside the face.
Finished render. I like it.

Thanks...I figured that turning the Environment value up was causing the washed-out look, but you've given me some good alternatives to consider.
Impressive work...the lighting looks great and the skin is very convincing.
...so do I. Nice work with the SSS.
For two days I've been trying to rework my film noir-ish scene into a more pulp magazine cover with a damsel in distress and a shady character. I converted all the windows to a translucent material so i could get that silhouette, that caused the render to hang up about half way through, just froze and trying to stop it resulted in crash. I cut the size in half, same problem but it got to 65%. So I peeled back the translucent to the point where it was just the one window, still same results. I then converted the one window to thick glass hoping that might fix it. Same result. I cannot complete this render under any circumstances. Bummed. This is a screen grab of what it looks like when it hangs up.
Maybe apply the Frosted Glass Iray material preset?
