Hello, Diffeomorphic here. I will try to monitor this thread and answer questions. Another place which I do monitor regularly is the bug tracker.

Such a buzz to see you here - thank you for being available and, of course, for your sterling work on the DAZ Importer. I'm sure you will get lots of questions so I'd think it best for you to start your own thread to address them as people might not bother to skip through the previous posts in this thread before noticing your arrival. Otherwise, as I started this thread, I'm honoured to have you respond in person. Thanks again.

Great to see you here. Finally we will be able to use the DAZ content in Blender. You did a great job!

Something is wrong with the universe when I give so much to Autodesk, and nothing to Thomas. Thomas never asked for anything, but it would just feel like justice to contribute something.

I think I made a similar point about your Alembic Exporter and the "buy-me-a-coffee" suggestion. And I agree although I do try, where possible, to use Open Source alternatives. In truth, I just can't afford the likes of Autodesk or ZBrush (although I did snag Marvelous Designer 8 at half price). Thomas and others who share their skills for the benefit of the community are, if you'll excuse the hyperbole, heroes to the likes of us on a limited budget.

That is not hyperbole at all. I fan-boy'ed pretty hard when I met Ton Rosandahl for the first time at SIGGRAPH in LA last year, to the point that I really hope there's no video :) I coudn't help it. And it'd be the same for Linus or Richard. But please keep in mind that it's not "free as in beer" but rather "free as in speech" that really sets all these heroes apart.

I enjoy the interaction between devs and users alike, in our growing Daz Open Source community. Richard M. Stallman is himself not the most social person in the world, but he is dead on when he asserts that software development is an inherently social endeavor, the old trope of the introverted programmer notwithstanding.

And honestly, that you find it useful is reward enough.

My son is a software developer (not 3D related, unfortunately) and he maintains that writing code is an artistic pursuit just like other creative endeavours. I get that and I am in awe of the creativity that goes on in software, from big movie studio SFX to free projects like Blender. Just look at the artistry on this site alone.

Just a post for those interested in exporting to Blender.

The Diffeomorphic DAZ Importer is a free utility with scripts for both DAZ Studio and Blender and it has been updated for Blender 2.8. I have just happened across a new video tutorial for this latest version (1.4) and maybe this time I'll have a little more success than my previous attempt when I found it a little confusing to follow the text instructions on Thomas Larsson's site.

I'll have to watch this video tomorrow when I'm hyped up on caffeine. 28 minutes...my goodness.

I keep getting Json errors and nothing written to the error file. I'll have to try this again some other time.

I've had better luck with the development version than I did with 1.4 stable. LOL. Try that before you give up completely ;)

Just noticed a potential bug; anyone able to confirm before I report it?

When transferring correctives from G8F to clothes I get the following error:

@nicstt I can confirm that transfer jcms seems to not work anymore, though I get a different error. Thomas is coding a new morph system so may be something broke up. Now it's reported at diffeomorphic thank you for pointing this out.

@nicstt Should work now. I recently changed to a new computer because my old one died, and on my new system I don’t have the clothes-specific jcms installed. Therefore the plugin always does auto-transfer of jcms, and the bug did not bite me. However, I do have custom body morphs for the clothes installed. The same problem arose when I tried to transfer the pear figure from body to shorts, and that bug is gone now.

Mr. Thomas, you who are almost a God for creating the best way to get things out of Daz Studio and who makes available for free what even the Daz developers are not capable of doing, I need you to help me urgently with a problem.
Since I am using google translator to translate this message, maybe some things are not understood very well since I don't speak English.

Mister Thomas (or someone else who has experienced a similar problem), when using even a Genesis8Female + Sakura8 + Hotaru base when importing or loading any morphs (even the default ones with genesis 8 female) that completely close the eyelids and tabs, unfortunately only They close halfway to the eye in Blender, but in Daz they close completely.
I have tried with many morphs, also both in version 1.4 and in version 1.5 of its plugin (I am in daz studio 4.12 and in blender 2.81) but nothing works. I've reviewed their official plugin site, this forum, and more, and nowhere have I seen anyone who had something similar happen to them. I followed their tutorials and explanations to the letter on the complement site, both version 1.4 and 1.5
Is there any way to fix this?

Did you load in Sakura's custom JCMs? Super stylized morphs typically need extra jcms particularly for the eyes

    Yes.
I tried all the shapes and several times (both importing them as a group and separately, both as "CUSTOM MORPHS" and "CUSTOM JCMS")

I thought I was making progress. Took a long time to find where Blender actually puts things. I get this error on import in Blender.

Apparently, the settings to DAZ content directories keeps getting reset to the defaults when Blender crashes. On my Mac, that's quite often as it loves to beach ball constantly.

You gotta change the folders in the settings panel in the add on if you're on Mac. I'm not at my computer right now, but of no one comes through with the folder paths for you before I check back in I'll make sure to find them for you.

You  need to open Blender, click on the Daz tab and change the default library paths to yours and then Save Default Settings. Close Blender. This way, next time you start a new Blender file your correct library paths will load.

I've done that. Several times. When I have to force quit Blender, the settings are back to the defaults. I keep a terminal window open with the pwd so I can paste it in.

@ChrisSerket They may also be mcms, that is, morphs controlling morphs. If this is the case you have to load all the needed morphs for them to work fine. It may be for example that body or expressions morphs are used and you miss them. You can check the used morphs in daz studio.

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/162216/finding-hidden-active-morphs-fixed-with-workaround

Honestly if the standad and custom jcms don't work, I'd go with creating my own morph in blender to fix it. Rather than importing a gazillion morphs with dependencies from daz. For example I know of people here that makes characters by mixing other characters, that's obviously a bit messy for any importer to deal with.

Then you may also try with the daz plugin just to see if you get better luck in this case.

I do that all the time Padone and have never had issues; I mix characters and add a shed load of morphs too.

I've had fails - similar to brainmuffin - that was down to one of the items included with the character; brows for example. I don't have issues with Super Natural Brows though.

When I get that issues I just delete it; next time it happens I'll post it.
