I know this is an old thread, but recently I've had to beta test some lamh presets. I have no issue with 3dl and the 'attach preset'. They sprout fur in about a minute or less. However, when I try "to OBJ", it just sits there doing nothing. I've left it sitting for nearly an hour a few times but it still won't work. Way back in the day when iray was new, I beta tested some fur trim on an outfit, and a cape, and the "to OBJ" worked fine and the geometry box popped up, etc. This was the free player at the time.
Not long after that, I bougtht the full version and my serial number is here in my list at Daz. I don't know how to find what version of lamh I'm using since it's a plugin and not an exe, and don't know where to look. It's not in DIM either. How do I get an updated version, and will that help?
I have no clue how to find out if any leftover bits from the free version are still scattered in my files. I'm a beta tester, and really need to find a way to make this iray 'to OBJ' work for fur. The fur is not fiberhair or any type of hair like you think of hair, it's just a basic fur preset.
My computer handles Iray renders just fine. I don't have a super computer, but lamh used to work on my old 32gb 16bit computer with an OEM card. The one I have now is listed in my signature below. Hope you can help. Thanks.
I think the other LAMH thread is frequented more:

If you go to the About Installed Plug-ins under the Help Tab, then just select the LAMH plug entry, the bottom portion of the panel will give version & website link.
I'm usally in the Editor when I make any exports. I'm not 100% on this but the To OBJ might actually be working but not just not automatically loading that back into DS. In the editor, it gives a brief message as to where that is, and that's a fixed location under the default user so will look similar to this: "C:\Users\16267\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\lookatmyhairAM". Look there & see if you've obj's for the hair groups.
The "to OBJ" export can take an enormous amount of time on an older machine such as mine. The way to test if it is working without waiting hours would be to set the number of hairs to 100 rather than the probable thousands or hundred-thousands of hairs per shave-group that the preset would normally export to, and then see if the export happens in a more reasonable time-frame. The dialog for setting the hair export density pops up just after you hit the "to OBJ" export. You have to type the new number of hairs and hit "enter" in order for the new number to register, then click the "ok" button to export.
Thanks Doc, will post this in the other thread. My location is E:\DAZ 3D\Studio\lookatmyhairAM which is an external drive. I've used the 'to OBJ' in the past, just isn't working lately. I'll have to look at the info you gave me about finding the version number.
I'll try it with just a bit of hair density then. I'm using 1 million hairs for each shave group since I have to use it as the vendor intends. But will start small and see how it does. Thanks!
I've moved my post to the other lamh thread, thanks for the tip!
Something to remember is that the files exported as OBJ geometry are enormous. The Wolf 2.0 fur export at "out-of-package" densities is close to 4 GB. Two things I have learned when exporting high densities of hair to OBJ are: NEVER click the export button twice (freeze, crash); click the export button just before going to bed or going to work, and if you're lucky it will be done when you get back to the computer. While for beta-testing that might not be an option, exporting to fiberhair rather than OBJ is much less resource intensive. It is also a good idea to delete all of the "old" exported geometry that LAMH generates. It also saves time if you set the preview mode to "Wire-bounding box" before exporting.
sapat Hello, yes has also VortigensBane suggested, better starting with a lower fur count. What you can do for example, is to double root/tip hair width and cut in half the export hair quantity. Indeed the OBJ geometry that can be generated this way can be quite massive. If you have LAMH full version, you may want to try exporting using the fiberhair option which optimizes geometry and is faster.
I was able to get the 'to OBJ' to work with a test of only 500 hairs per group.. It worked fine and added the geometry.
However, I'd like to know how I change the destination of my geometry obj files. I don't ever use C:\ for saving anything unless Windows requires it.
I want them to go to my external drive: E:\Users\Owner\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\lookatmyhairAM\Geometries That's the drive where I save everything.
Unfortunately that can’t be done in current version.
Any idea if there will be a promt pop-up at some point where it lets you point to wherever you want them? Hope there will be another update. Just thinking it would be nice to have a choice.
Thanks
We are considering the possiblity to do a series of important updates, so if that happens we'll make sure to include this fix too. Cheers.
Much appreciated for the consideration. It's a product I've owned and used for years, and want to keep using.
I hope LAMH isn't going anywhere, soon. I don't buy animals without presets for LAMH anymore.
LAMH was one of the main reasons I switched to DAZ Studio from the other render tools and I absolutely LOVE LAMH! I hope it stays around for a good long time, or at least until each and every single animal model out there has a LAMH Catalyzer group with it! (EVERY. SINGLE. ONE! HA HA)
I'm glad to hear this kind of feedback. Even with its quirks and bugs, we believe it's still a valuable tool among many users and we really look forward to address the problems and improve it. In fact, update 1.6.0.2 should be live in store as of today with the first batch of fixes, mostly for what concerns handling shavegroups. More to come hopefully soon...
Oh Wow! That was just a few minutes ago. Will DIM detect the update?
Yes it definitely should be there.
Took a few hours, but there theye are. Both LAMH and Catalyzer.
Appreciate the heads up. Will have to play with them tomorrow.
Is something going on with Catalzyer? Because I can't seem to install the thing. DIM isn't showing me anything but the manual, and neither is Smart Content. I have tried repeatedly to install it through DIM, Smart Content and manual, and nada.
Have you checked the Download Filters (button at top-left of the Ready to Download tab) to make sure it is going to show plug-ins?
So you don't have it listed in the Panes panel or the Installed Plug-ins list? There wasn't any install just the update.
I had a look for mine after reading the post and it wasn't there in Studio 4.11. It wont load from my product library as it doesn't appear to be there in the manual downloads or the DIM download, I didn't try the Connect download. I did find it in the Plugins folder of Studio 4.12 Beta on my Laptop so copied it over to Studio 4.11 and it is now showing up in the plugins list and the panel list so all good here.
I checked the plugins list, but it isn’t there. I will try installing the beta and see if that works.
When a plugin is not showing up in the Window>Panes (Tabs) it means that it needs to be activated first (with a serial) in Help > About Installed Plugins....
Well I'm about fed up with this program. bought it a year ago, nothing but random DAZ crashes while using. thought I'd try again since there have been updates.
-load DAZ empty scene
-load gen 8 male, set to base
-open look at my hair
-import
-create facegroup #2
-delete face group #1 (the default)
-Daz crashes
2nd attempt, repeat to import
-clear all density maps on each part, why they are all full red by default I'll never know *editing the face group and clearing all denisty maps didn't do anything.
-set my my guide hairs for head hair
-mess around with it
-goto density paint - torso
it's all white, can't paint only buttons for 0/100% work
-switch to face, painting works
-back to torso
DAZ crashes.
In case your wondering if my specs are sufficient
Win7 pro 64b
4Ghz 8 core proc
32GB ram
GTX 1070ti
I can run Blender, DAZ, Bryce, and Carrara at the same time no problems. Drop one and add overwatch. still fine. (I edit things while in queue)
But trying to work with look at my hair only seems to yield crashes. Last year I tried saving frequently if I made any progress. But no, when they load, the look nothing like what they did when they were saved.
I'd ask for a refund, but it's way too long. At this point it's just lost money and time.
