    Well, the nerve!!!

Seriously, though...do you depend on email notices?  I gave up on that a long time ago.(a couple of years).  I just have the Bookmarks page open in one of my tabs, and the threads I follow all bookmarked.  So, I just refresh the page now and then to see if there are any new posts.

If you're concerned about your girth then could it be a weigh station?  Or if you're a cheese maker it might be a whey station.

I had a dream it was thanksgiving night and I was at a mall trying to figure out how to get home.  This guy was offering me a ride home but I was looking for my car.  I did not find the car in my dream but just as I woke up I found out his name was Aaron Rogers or something like that.

edit in my dream it was like 2 or 3 am so it had to be Black Friday early morning.

Complaint: Argh... my camera needs to be repaired.   Well, it has needed to be repaired for at least a year but I just kept putting it off because the problem is intermittant (has a noisy image chip) and I don't take many photos with it anymore (probably because it's brokenfrown)  It's not a cheap camera($$$).  It's small but it's a "Pro" NIkon Coolpix-P5100 and I have triple the money($$$$) tied up in accessories for it.  Full range of lenses(including 183° fisheye), microscope adapter, telescope adapter, remote control, ring light, speed flash, filters, etc. and the modern cameras in the same line don't have all the features that this 10 year old model does, meaning that to continue to take the same type of photos I'd have to switch to a full size pro camera($$$$) and repurchase all those uber-expensive lenses & adapters for the bigger camera ($$$$$)crying.

I checked at the repair page of the Nikon website but they don't list my camera in their dropdown selectionsad.  By entering my camera's serial number I did manage to convince their automated repair estimate algorithm to send me an estimate ($160) and the paperwork to submit my camera for repair.  So, I'll box it and ship it in and see what happens.  If they can't fix it, then at least I tried, and all I lose is shipping costs.  Repair by Nikon is expensive but I trust them.  Five years ago I had my 20 year old previous pro Coolpix995 camera repaired by Nikon and they did a super job on it.  It looked and worked like brand new when it returned.  Even now it still works and takes all the same lenses etc. but the resolution is much less than my 5100 and isn't satisfactory for the quality of images I produce now.

However, the problem with all these electronic cameras with specialty batteries is finding quality replacements for the battery after 20 years.  My 995 has an external power supply that I can useyes, but the 5100 doesn't support external power. no  I've got a 30 year old JVC miniature SuperVHS-C video camera ($$$$) that still works but I haven't been able to find a new battery for it for the last 15 years. (not that I really need it but it pains me to see perfectly good machines made useless)sad

KEH camera is selling a used one on Amazon for $39.00 plus tax. 180 day warranty.
I've dealt with them, they're good.

surprise Well, bust my buttons!  It's worth a try...  It's been ordered...  Getting mine repaired would be $160 repair, plus $30 shipping.  We'll see if Amazon's declared "Acceptable" status is actually acceptable.  If so, it saves me about $150.  Thanks. yes  Although I hate to abandon my own personal camera, it's in pristine condition except for the degrading image chip.  Some cameras end up looking like they've gone through hell.  Mine are pampered.

I bought a used Olympus Pen from them to use with my Canon FD lenses.
Description said "good", but there was no sign of use on it.

Keep your old one, you might need parts later.

Non-complaint: (so far) I ordered that used Nikon P5100 camera from KEH through Amazon and it arrived this morning.  Yay!  I've unboxed it and it appears to function.  It initially complained about my memory card that I inserted but seemed to work anyway.  I went ahead and formatted the memory card and it hasn't complained since.  It focuses, and beeps, lets me adjust all the configuration menus.  However, the lens cover is a little spotty (rust or dirt), and the lenses will need a proper cleaning but don't appear to have any scratches.  I guess I'll have to go take some photos and assure myself that they can be downloaded to my computer and don't have any weird artifacts in the image, then I will be happy despite the fact that some of the lettering on the body is partially worn off.  So far, so good. yes

Non-complaint:  Music to DAZ by: I took my nap today with the YouTube on my TV playing suggestions of classical music in the background.  I woke up to beautiful music that I knew well but at first thought that it was the continuation of the music I was listening to before I fell asleep.  Then I realized it was much more familiar and I lay there in the confusion of half-sleep pondering what it was.  I had to give up and peek.  It was about half way through the 1st movement of "The Egyptian" piano concerto by Saint-Saëns (pronounced "Sa-saws" as if you had a pea stuck in both your nostrils).  One of my favorites.  It was time for supper but I just lay there in the chair watching the video, mesmerized by the music and floating in sound way past my supper time.

I mentioned a few days ago that a lot of great music contains a "swell" or two.  This is another one of those pieces of great music.  The third movement has a clear buildup to a swell at 23:33 and at least one more shortly afterwards at 23:31 and 23:41.  That whole section is a rollercoaster of intensity.  The "swell" is a gathering of waves that combine to lift you and engulf you in the spirt of the moment.

Watch the conductor of this piece (Andris Nelsons).  Somehow I get the idea that he's having a good time.  Reminds me of Leonard Bernstein's enthusiasm for some pieces.

I've gushed about this particular piece here before (perhaps a couple of times), but it's worth bringing up again.  IMHO one of the greatest piano concertos ever.yesheart

Camille Saint-Saëns:  Piano Concerto #5 "The Egyptian"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IEYtta_ZsI Written after a trip to Cairo.

1st movement: 00:00  I get the impression of weathy exuberance of city life, parties, parks, extravagant suroundings.  Then, perhaps a little tipsy, I leave the frenetic parties and take a walk down by the river into the 2nd movement.

2nd movement: 09:55  Not exuberant, not fast, and for a 2nd movement not boring, but filled with many ethnic snatches of music as if heard in passing while walking at dusk through a multi-cultural working class neighborhood along the river.  IMHO one of the best middle movements of a concerto ever. This movement ends with slow rising steps from the quiet lethargy of the common-folk music back up to the hustle and bustle of the upper class city environment.yes

3rd movement: 20:33 Lively exuberant society dancing, partying in the style of the early 20th century.  The movement ends with amazing piano skill.  Another piece where you want to jump up and cheer.

EDITED to change the link to the correct recording.  Sorry. blush

NOTE:  One of the comments in the YouTube page pointed out the bell like sound at 17:39 and pointed to a discussion in "Physics Today' of how that sound is achieved on a piano.  Genius! https://physicstoday.scitation.org/doi/10.1063/PT.3.2703?journalCode=pto

They're dropping support for 7 pretty soon.  The tech sites are putting up webinars on migrating from 7 to 10 smoothly.  Not sure paying for Win7 is a good idea anymore.  It's going the way of WinXP.  I use Win10 Pro and it's not bad at all.  You just have to get past all the negative hype.

    Complaint...

Why do the forums constantly spaz out for iOS devices? I gave up commenting or making posts about it long ago because I got used to dealing with its abominable nature, but god it sucks sometimes... This includes the store too... that stupid spazzy scrolling banner thing... I literally feel like if I look at it I’ll have a seizure, for crying out loud, WTF... I have to try and poke at the “See Them All” button without gazing too long at the conniptions.

Seriously it’s been a couple of years and it doesn’t seem like any real changes have been made to accommodate use on mobile devices... or at least iOS... I know I’m not alone because I’ve seen similar complaints over time...

And that’s mostly iPad... forget iPhone... that’s the epitome of suckatude.

I can’t tell you how many times in the middle of writing something, the forum autosaves the draft and suddenly the screen won’t progress beyond whatever line I was last writing... so every time I type a word past that line, the screen jumps back and forth between that word and the line of text it spazzed out on... it makes my eyes want to explode.

    Ghaaa...

Okay, I’m done, I’m over it, my aggravation has waned...

Possible complaint:  Maybe it's just me expecting too much but the images from the new(used) camera seem a bit out of focus.  That, and the suspicion that the sound of the mechanism as it is focusing isn't the smooth whirrrrr of my original camera.  It seems a little unsteady (more like whirr-rr-r.  As soon as my back stops screaming (it slipped out of place again this morningcrying) in a few days I'll take the camera out on a mini-adventure to places I've been before and compare the images with my earlier images.

I had problems logging into Amazon on this computer earlier today because the phone number associated to my account was old and wrong.  I contacted my phone company and they did a little fix, but I tried too many times to send to fix my phone number.  It said I did it too many times and try again another day.

Now I am trying to figure out a problem with texts and iMessaging.  Not sure if I am explaining the issue well enough to the phone company customer support person.  I forgot what that is called.
