I agree with Szark about lightening the face. Also consider applying the 'Rule Of Thirds' so the main subject is not dead centre; try positioning the character (and waterfall) one third of the scene from the right hand side and see how that looks. I'm not sure if DOF would help this scene, as the background seems an important part of the image.
Personally, I don't feel it's a piece that would work well with the Rule of Thirds; I've seen a lot of art where people have obstinately applied the principle and as a result created lopsided images with no visual interest on one side. In this case, there's not really anything here that would provide enough visual balance.
Maybe if the aspect ratio was narrowed down to remove one side of the image, but reframing it in its current proportions I think would leave a lot of nothing.
(However, as it's in a 16:9 ratio, I'm assuming it's possibly intended as a desktop background? In which case I suppose it depends on how messy your desktop is. Personally, I keep mine pretty clean, but for the kind of person who has icons strewn everywhere, then maybe shifting the subject stage left would stop her being buried under a pile of Word documents).
Thanks all, I appreciate the input. I have a publisher I work with that wanted to see more post in some of the images I submit to them on a project and wanted a Frazzetta/Boris type feel which was the goal of this exercise. Everything posted from you guys I went over already in my head which is one of the reasons I hate post, to much second guessing lighting and how things should look over how they actually should look based on the mathmatics of the unbiased lighting. The background is a 16K HDRI, so DOF seemed pointless as I wanted the details from the image with the falls directly behind her and I had to move it ever so slightly to line it up so parts of her worked with the contrast of the background. I do agree about her face needing to be lit more which was my biggest concern, but that was a drawback of the HDRI (I increased the gamma on it more than I would have liked) and the vignetting and I didn't want to add a face light only since that would take away again from the unbiased rendering deal. I did want the environment to be a focus also which is why I added the plants and didn't crop it.
Anyhoo, thanks again.
Her face is actually darkened by the vignette, isn't it?
Slightly, I cropped the original render to make up for it as I didn't like the space above her.
Actually, i think the rule of thirds would work fairly well, with a slight repositioning of the camera. You might try rotating it around to theside a bit to get the waterfall behind her in the shot more to one side, instead of directly behind her. I personally thing it would benefit greatly from being portrait instead of landscape as well
+1
See I tried that and the hair and parts of her head and body didn't stand out because of the contrast in color with the waterfall.
It was just a test image for a publisher. I don't even use a desktop image as it just takes resources.
Fair enough. I personally tend to turn a lot of my art into desktop backgrounds, as it means I get to see it more often without the expense of getting it printed out (particularly as rendering at a decent print resolution would take my computer absolutely ages).
Playing with a screenshot of a portion of a render in progress with iPad apps lol...
A render I made after a break
Nice! Are those custom teeth?
Nice work! Love the lighting!
Very nice. You've got that realistic look down.
Riight I was kinda of wondering if the teeth came with the character too , That smile is pretty awesome
Abandoned # Gallery
Thanks! They're teeth that came with Second Circle's Lucy for Teen Josie 8 :)
Thanks all for the really nice comments. I appreciate it!
Another attempt to make a photo ... no post-work except for signature

I like that. looks really good the only thing that lets it down is the hair, can it be sub-d to remove those hard angles?
A tip on another thread mentioned Grand Designer, which scratches my itch for world building nicely!
I still have yet to find an easy one click 'atmosphere haze' but here I copy a trick I noticed in one of the planet products; the atmosphere is actually a plane intersecting the planet and aligned with the camera, with a blurred disk cutout/emission.
Testing the Reel to Reel set. Basically a nice set, but the chair is not very well proportioned IMO - a bit small and the back is too short so you can't rest your head against it. Also too high above the ground, so G8Ms feet hover 10+ cm above the ground.
Old products: Genesis 2 and Level 19.
And another one.
Just messing about.

Lit by HDRI and rendered out as Canvases with Z depth layer
First image is my rework, secind is how it loads by default
The finished render after all that you posted on Fb looks AWESOME Szark!
That looks great. I was a bit disappointed with the look too when I tested it but apparently it can be made to look really good.
Thanks Rich but I didn't use those trees, These are metasequoias from the Hell Creek environment set which are an extinct species
Thanks it was a lot of work to get them to PBR standards. I had to saturate quite a few diffuse maps and correct some roughness maps too. I saved everything out so I don't have to do it again. LOL Translucency with "Scatter Transmit and Intensity" on the leaves works nicely. Only about 0.10 is needed for most leaves. Put the leaf diffuse map in the colour slot. If you are really interested in doing what I did just shout and I will throw the info on my render thread.
