Keeping with one of my main themes of urban fantasy, a couple of officers looking to have a word with a recently re-awakened Daemon Lord about the fact that however he might thought things were done half a millennium ago, you're no longer allowed to go around kidnapping people...

These are some attempts at doing Iray renders without a lot of postwork. The first one has minimal postwork--mostly fixing the hem of the dress which didn't seem to drape realistically. I used an IBL for the background and lighting and added some spots to provide fill and rim lighting. The second piece has a lot more postwork because the hair didn't look right to me. Even though the product is a wet look hair, the clumps would still show individual hairs in a close-up portrait. This seems to be true of most DS hair--a compromise between reality and render time. I'm curious---which hair products people feel come closest and more specifically, which ones work best in closeups?

Also any suggestions on improving my renders would be greatly appreciated. I've tried using ambient occlusion and depth maps in Iray, but the results have been less than satisfactory than I'd hoped. I'm more familiar with Modo where the depth and AO maps can be adjusted on the fly--is there any way to do that in DS?

I really like the subtle facial expression on this one.

Lit by HDRI and rendered out as Canvases with Z depth layer

That looks great. I was a bit disappointed with the look too when I tested it but apparently it can be made to look really good.

Thanks it was a lot of work to get them to PBR standards. I had to saturate quite a few diffuse maps and correct some roughness maps too. I saved everything out so I don't have to do it again. LOL Translucency with "Scatter Transmit and Intensity" on the leaves works nicely. Only about 0.10 is needed for most leaves. Put the leaf diffuse map in the colour slot. If you are really interested in doing what I did just shout and I will throw the info on my render thread.

Yes, if you would share how you made Hell Creek look that good (if there's more to it than you mention above) that would be great.

The 2nd is much improved from an ealier post, but on the 1st the breasts can't be both that saggy & hard pointy edged too on the sitting lady.

The Parasaurolophus came from my copy of Primal Carnage: Extinction.

if you need a DS rigged model, Dinoraul has a decent one https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/parasaurolophusdr/70061/

While experimenting with mixing Mrs Chow characters with the younger Asians in my library to see what kinds of middle-aged combinations were in there, I decided I had the makings of a veteran action movie star, and raided Lee 7's Pro Bundle for some thugs for her to beat up.

Wow. Lots of interesting and wonderful renders here. It's hard to keep up. Comments on the last several:

@JVRenderer, your Macerena image is exceptional.
@Matt_Castle, she reminds me of someone. I may have seen too many Jackie Chan movies…!
@Ivy, so cute, so coy. Really nice.
@FSMCDesigns, Nice, Michael, and just the way I like to see dinosaurs, on the screen! (Close enough for me.)

Here's a WIP of Baldric. Another of Darwin's boys, just so much fun to work with.

looks great to me  though you might try using fit control https://www.daz3d.com/fit-control-for-genesis-8-female-s  if you have it to help with that shrink wrap look around the breast. Then it be perfect :)

Trying to come up with my own version of how Gianni 8 would look like, Jedrek was born. Not exactly how I wish Gianni would look like, but I just didn't want to throw this design away.

Second attempt at creating my own version of Gianni 8. A lot closer to what I have in mind, but not there yet.

  • This is a render using the Bridget HD character with portrait lighting. I also added an ambient occlusion layer and a depth layer in Photoshop. Please let me know what you think.

Okay, until I come up with my own version of Gianni, I'll start creating some of his friends. LOL! And sorry for too many posts in one day.
