A decidedly wet couple of days here in (ahem) sunny Phoenix. Temps are topping out in the mid 50º F range with lows in the 30's. We've set records for rain and snowfall. The snowfall is limited (mainly) to elevations above 4,000 ft. But, it did snow in metro-Phoenix, last night.Hell has truly frozen over. https://www.azfamily.com/news/not-just-the-high-country-scottsdale-fountain-hills-residents-see/article_0ebd2b38-3655-11e9-832e-33dddd41859e.html

Because of hearing problems I watch TV using subtitles.  Try watching PrimeVideo's "The Expanse" some time.  The accent of the Belters isn't displayed completely in reasonable English in the subtitles.  Much of it is displayed phonetically. frown  So, I still don't know exactly what they say and have to guess based on the sound-alike bastardizations of words & phrases and the visible emotion.  Which is difficult because the Belters are always mad and yelling or threatening somebody or something. indecision  Imagine industrialized street thugs with jobs. surprise  I have yet to decipher what "beltaloada" means. sad

Note:  "The Expanse";  a tolerably watchable SciFi series with a few long running plot threads about a mysterious alien threat that multiplies the existing friction between three main groups of humans populating the solar system.

Earthers:  People who live on Earth.  (one dimensionally arrogant, entitled assholes)

Martians: People who live on Mars (duh!)  (one dimensionally arrogant warriors)

Belters:  People who live in and work mining the asteroid belt. (one dimensionally arrogant industrialized street thugs with jobs)

Edited to correct NetFlix to PrimeVideo.  The 2015 series apparently originally from SciFi channel was sold to PrimeVideo in 2018

Apparently I am not supposed to talk to my roommate because I apparently talk to her wrong.

Try Belter loader.  I think it's like a dock worker.  Not positive.

I've been enjoying this show.  Just started season 3 a little over a week ago.  Not rushing it, watch an episode every four days or so.

I'm about to finish season 3 (wanna' spoiler? devil)  Nah, I won't be that mean.  But when I start an episode it takes me three sessions, several hours apart to finally get through an episode.  I have to keep reminding myself of the characteristics of the three groups of people, grit my teeth and repeat my mantra "one dimension is OK.  One dimension is OK. One dimension is OK" until the current tirade or manifest human stupidity is off the screen and hope for a surprise effect from the alien stuff.  15 minutes at a time is about all I can take.  I keep hoping the alien stuff will save the day and absorb the humans or at least mindwipe them for slave fodder. Other than that it's a good show. yes

    Sorry, not really.

I still miss my doggie friend and now my computer is giving me BSODs with memory mangement stop code. It is my 8 year old secondary computer and I'm afraid it may nearing the end.

Oh, sorry!  I hate computer problems!  I've had this computer for a long time, but I keep upgrading things here and there.  I'd love to replace the main system.  It's a Core2 Duo with 8GB of RAM.  I'd love to have at least six cores and at least 16GB of RAM (32 or 64 preferred) and at least an nVidia GTX 1070 with 8GB onboard RAM.  But that would cost a lot more than I can spend at the moment.  This motherboard doesn't even have USB3.  And I can see the speed difference between 2 and 3.  Our laptop has USB3.  I have a 128GB thumb drive that is USB3.  It takes a while to load on my computer, but on the laptop, it pops up a window and is loaded before I can lift my eyes to look at the screen after I plug it in!

Well, I imagine that brushing a cat is easier on the cat than penciling it. surprise

...'planit:  I discovered today that my favourite Thai/Vietnamese restaraunt in the Hawthorne District, which I've gone to for decades, closed down   No more of those lovely noodle bowls or Pho that I enjoy at a decent price.

Beltalowda = "us Belters". Lowda = "load of", so effectiveliy Beltalowda = load of belters. It can be pretty hard to follow even when you can hear it!

    This may help: https://expanse.fandom.com/wiki/Belter_Creole

If you follow the links to the book creole, it gives a lot of the origin languages

  • Thanks, I thought it might be a derivation of Creole but didn't research it.

Complaint:  Arghhh...! It's snowed heavily all night and day.  There is now at least 10 inches of gloppy snow in the unplowed driveway where yesterday there were bare rocks.  I haven't dared look behind the house to see what's become of my car or if it's even visible. frown  The forecast for last night was "one snowflake symbol".  Which in my mind does not equate to 10 inches of snow.   angry  Wednesday's forecast is for "three snowflake symbols" sad  Tomorrow (Tuesday) is my normal uptown chores day which means that if I want to get rid of my garbage, go to the bank, pick up prescriptions, and have a non-canned lunch, freshly prepared by semi-competent cooks I'll have to venture to the back of the house and try to find my car tomorrow morning. crying  I hope the snow stops tonight and the landlord comes to plow the driveway before morning. indecision
