Complaint:  They've ground the top 1 or 2 inches of road surface off of 5 miles of the local road that goes to the city.  I forgot about the construction and started to come back home today via the local road instead of the Interstate Highway.  5 miles of tire shredding on a freshly sharpened tire grater.  Luckily, I realized my mistake in time and took the next turn-off and took the back roads over the river and through the woods and up and down the hills, round the bend and past the fields.  At one point I saw a couple of really little Amish boys running barefoot along the side of the road.  One must have been only about 4 and his brother only 5 or 6 but the little one kept up with his brother.  I watched them run ahead of me along the side of the road for at least a quarter mile.surprise  Can your young'ns do that?

  • My screen has a scratch on it.  Not a big deal if it was a regular screen but it is a touch screen.  It is causing the ghost touches I complain about, I think.

I remember ...  Burl Ives Christmas albums.  Nat King Cole albums.  Jose' Jime'nez on the Ed Sullivan show  Topo Gigio on Ed Sullivan. Patti Page singing "How Much is that Doggie in the Window?"  Kate Smith singing "God Bless America".  "Science Fiction Theater" on TV as well as  "Rocky Jones,  Space Ranger" and  "Howdy Doody".   I remember only one minute of commercials during a commercial break on TV and only one every 15 minutes.  I remember Milton Berle on TV, as well as Jack Benny, George Burns & Gracie Allen.  I remember the "Bob Cummings" TV show, as well as "I Remember Mama" and "The Ann Southern Show", and that guy who played the voice of Mr. Magoo before he became Mr. Howell on "Gilligan's Island".  I just barely remember Dwight Eisenhower being elected President for the first time.  I watched "I love Lucy" shows when they were new.

    God, I'm old! surprise

    ...so am I now.

Sorry for the wake up call. indecision

    ...no prob. It happens.

I'm getting there. 2 years older than Misty I think. I've got my grandmothers COlumbia CHristmas albums that I grew up listening to. Mahalia Jackson singing Amazing Grace, Sammy Davis Jr singing Candy Man, The Carpenters, The New Christy Minstrals etc.

ETA: Jim is working on a prequil to The Barbarians. SOme of the early stuff is REALLLLY dark as he's got to set up the foundatins for the cultures of the time and ideas like those don't come out of nowhere but it doesn't stay dark.

...I miss seeing his stories here.

The piece I 'm working on tended to get darker as it's progressed.

  • Complaint.  How does one sit on a bed and be comfy?  Right now I have decided I either did not know or forgotten how to sit on a bed and be comfy at same time.  I know how to lie down but that gets so boring I fall asleep.  I need to reorganize my room.  arggghh!

Complaint:  Already financially overextended, and there are some WONDERFUL pieces up for auction this afternoon on-line. crying  Only one piece I could possibly afford if I got it on the first bid.  A group of four wonderfully carved Bowenite figurines.  It looks like Jade but is actually Serpentine.  Sometimes called "New Jade".  It's considerably softer than the two minerals traditionally called Jade (Jadeite and Nephrite).  And it's more abundant than real Jade.  So, easier to carve and not quite as expensive.  However, it makes some beautiful carvings. https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/64753291_four-chinese-bowenite-carvings yes

HOWEVER, I've found 15 items in this auction that are absolutely WONDERFUL but start their bidding over my limit.  Like this white bird carving https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/64753234_chinese-carved-jade-or-hardstone-parrot-group

Or these six different stone horses https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/64753217_group-of-six-old-chinese-carved-horses Drool! heart

I think I'm going to avoid the temptation altogether and go for a long ride in the car this afternoon.  Perhaps lunch in that little country restaurant on the Indian reservation that I didn't get to last weekend and drive down along the mountains and river, past the Kinzua dam. enlightened

I sit on my bed cross-legged.  When you get your room organized, come visitme.  I have a 4-bdrm 2 bath house you can organize.  And the attached garage need to be organized too.

  • Complaint:  I took my drive to get lunch and drive to Kinzua Dam.  Unfortunately, I got to the restaurant too early, they weren't open.  So I headed down toward the dam but got lost on the mountain roads and was 30 miles away from where I wanted to be when I finally stumbled into the Allegheny State Park and found a park ranger to talk to.. frown  I could have gone on to the dam but it was via even tinier mountain roads with no cell service.  So, I had my Garmin tell me how to get home and she made me retrace my steps all the way back up to the Interstate that I had originally come from.

Non-Complaint:  I didn't get to see the dam but I did see lots of Kinzua lake, Lake George, and forests and I wasn't in a hurry so it didn't matter. indecision

Complaint: My lunch ended up being at Burger King instead of a classic country restaurant.  Also, I got back home in time to still catch the on-line auction.  But missing the auction was the whole reason for taking the drive in the first place.  Arghhhh.....  frown

...wow, woke up to a pounding rain this morning, the first I've seen in months. Looks Like Portland got its normal weather back. So nice to have clean air again. Between the smoke and smog from auto exhaust (again we are in a valley which is perfect for inversions) it was getting pretty oppressive. for a while.  No longer waking up and coughing every morning like someone who smokes a couple of packs of ciggies a day.

Hmmm, still nothing from PS1?  Getting a bit concerned.

It looks as though you were lucky where you are,  the storm suddenly veered from it's previously projected path and missed a whole chunk of North Carolina

    Yeah.  We were lucky.

  • Non-complaint:  Saved at least $125 by not buying anything at the on-line auction! yes  The 4 green bowenite (jade-like) carvings went for $125 and The white jade parrots went for about $325 surprise  And the six various hardstone horses went for $125 which isn't a bad deal at about $25 apiece.  Very high quality.  I should have bought them. crying

...one of my concerns is over all the highly toxic cesspools in the region containing factory livestock farming waste and coal slurry/ash overflowing due to the heavy rains. There are a lot of them.in the path.

Well, it's not the PA sale of yesteryear.  Maybe that's why you haven't noticed.  I think they used to generate a whole lot more buzz in the forums.

Only if side effects are bad.

  • Well, I had to tell my husband I spent the grain money.  I felt guilty about taking care of my problem and leaving my daughter with her problem.  She is allergic to corn syrup.  She gets an upset stomach from soda but keeps drinking it.  So I got a soda steam for the house.  No corn syrup in the drink mix.  There is a small amount in her bread and baked goods, but its been the soda amounts that make her ill.  My dad told me corn syrup is digested in the liver and we take meds that are processed in the liver.  We must take care of our livers, seriously.  No drinking.  I wish no corn syrup. I hope I can bake well enough she gives up her wonder bread.

  • I had read about people being able to eat wheat in Italy but not the US so I wanted to find out if it was the Round Up in American wheat that caused my allergy.  I tried buying some pasta that said product of Italy.  Tasted great, but I blew up.  I then found out Italy imports our wheat, makes it into pasta and ships it back to us, Round Up and all.  Maybe I'll test organic wheat but not for a month or so I think.  I want to be well.  I am going to have to just work with what have on my Daz buying for a bit.  I have to get in the habit of thinking in advance and making foods that take some time, like yeast breads and pasta.  I hope I have time and the new flour to make cookies today.  Spritz cookies sound bad for breakfast food, but cerial and pop tarts really are not any better.  Also I need a loaf of white bread for grilled cheese.  If I can have those two things, I can stick to this wheat free diet.  I can make bread sticks instead of pasta most of the time.  Making pasta is a pain.  I want to play with Daz but life is really getting in the way lately.  I am going to go dig around my daz closet today, it always makes me very happy.

I got a new pair of work shoes.  I am wearing them now.  One of the managers saw them and said right away they would not work without explaining herself.  I thought it was due to the blue stripe as that was the only thing wrong with them.  I called amazon to see if I can return them.  Then I went back to my workplace and found out that was not the issue at all, but that she thought they were not slip resistant.

edit forgot to post the picture to prove they are slip resistant.

Complaint:  Arghhhh...., small antique shops that try to participate in big time on-line auctions. angry I've been going 'round and 'round today with a small Chinese antique shop in California from which I won that white carved stone vase last week.  The person who answers the phone is totally unintelligible with an accent that would curl noodles.  I've tried dealing with her twice and now all correspondence is via email.  This is an unbelievable SNAFU with wrong shipping bills, lost VISA payment records, confusion with a previous order I had with them.  And it's all on their end.  Thank the stars that I have all my payment records and copies of all emails.  But still they're sending me late notices and threatening to charge storage fees for not picking up the item within a week.  I've had to send them partially redacted copies of my VISA statements to prove that I've already paid everything that they've billed me for.  But I'm not sure they still understand that they have not billed me for shipping of the vase.  The next complication will see me bundle up all this email conversation and proofs and send it to the main web company that provides auction services to these little antique shops.  This is the second time in a year I've had to do this. frown
