I've taken my dad's walker to the grocery store with me several times because it has a seat.  I usually use my cart, but I do like to sit down while waiting at the bus stop.  It's hard to get up from the curb.

Complaint:  I've paid for the stone carved vase I won at the on-line auction on Monday.  I had to do it by phone.  Had to call multiple times until the line finally wasn't busy.  Then the lady at the other end had such a heavy Chinese accent and high frequency voice (I can't hear high frequencies) that it took many repeats before I could figure out what she was saying even for such simple things as "account number" and "expiration date".  But finally that was done and I asked about shipping details.  They've promised to send me an e-mail giving the shipping costs or a list of shipping companies they deal with.  But it's been two days now and still no e-mail.  However, they sold a LOT of items at that auction so it's probably just a matter of volume.  Too many objects to wrap and too few employees to process them all.  New mantra: "Must be patient.  Must be patient.  Must be patient. ..." indecision

'Nother complaint:  I have the same problem with one of the clerks at my local Wendy's restaurant with a super high voice.  Whenever I go inside and I see her there, I try to pay special attention to her mouth to know which question she's asking.  Because if I just blurt out exactly what I want, she doesn't listen and asks me over again piecemeal anyway.  She could easily be replaced by a machine. frown

And it seems to confuse the counter people when I say that I want "take out" but then at the pickup window I'll grab a tray to put my product bags on because I'm going to take it to a table to eat only some of it.  I have to stop them from taking the items out of the bag and putting them on the tray and explain that I'm going to eat only part of it here.  I used to try to explain that to the clerk taking the order originally but it blows their mind and they can't figure out how to put it into the computer. surprise  I've tried the alternative of saying that I'm going to "eat in" and letting them put the stuff on a tray but when I pick up the tray at the window I'll ask for a bag or two.  Unfortunately, that, for some totally infathomable reason is even more confusing to them and I still have to explain that I'm only going to eat some of the items and have to stop them from panicing and attempting to rebag everything, and I end up having to explain that I think I can manage to fill the bags myself.  (*Life, it's just too confusing anymore.  Blame computers.*)

...OK so almost three and a half hours later, I believe I finally was able to close out my current phone account.  First the number I was told to call to cancel my service was an automated system that only dealt with paying the bill.  So next I finally found a chat option which I used wqhere I kept getting a runaround that was not addressing what I want.  That person finally handed me off to an "Customer Service Specialist" who called me and who I could barely understand because of her thick accent and a lot of ambient noise in the background on her end again I have tinnitus so I need people to speak clearly withotu a lot of other noise around).  Finally she connected me with a supervisor in an office who finally was able to do what I needed (basically let me pay just the August charges with no restoration fee as I was not continuing service, close the account, and unlocking my phone so I could use it with another carrier)....

...at least I think, as when I went to the site afterwards, there was still a remaining balance of 115$ that showed a 55$ past due balance even though I received an acknowledgment of my payment via email. I'll wait a while and check again.

    __________

I just went back to verify if the changes were made and now can't even log onto my account on their site.  When I enter the phone number after logging in number it informs me the number is already in use by a customer.  So now totally in the dark as to what is up.

I think if you want to keep your number, you have to first transfer it to another carrier, which cancels you current contract in the process.  If you cancel first, your carrier may reassign the number pretty quick.  That's probably what happened here.  Or...the website hasn't done that, but you are cancelled so you can't log in to your cancelled account, and it is holding your number for your use at another carrier.  Hard to tell what has really happened here.

    Dana

..yeah, being a bit "old school" a lot of this is just too strange.  Supposedly, as I mentioned, they will send me an email.  I'll see then what happened...hopefully.

..I miss talking sports with Ed.

Tonight, Milwaukee won it's second series against the Chicago Cubs in two weeks (as well as swept a series in between with the SF Giants), to move within 1 game of first place in the NL Central along with gaining another game on St Louis in the Wildcard race.  Pitching (not usually Milwaukee's strong point) was exceptional tonight.

    ..saw that.

Speaking of sports milestones, this year is the 100th season for the Green Green Bay Packers.

Fitting  the first game last Sunday was against their long time rival, the Chicago Bears.  Fitting they won  that game the  way they did.

  • Well, I was so happy thinking my allowance was going up in October and all.  Now, I never was able to stop eating grains and go low-carb to see if it would help all the swelling.  Oneday I added pasta to the menu and blew up, even my eyes were swollen.  So I have to spend my most of the October allowance money on Gluten Free flour and stuff for making safe pasta and bread.  Yay!  Crap.  But my mom has been thinking she has Celiacs.  One of my sisters went Grain Free and her back pain went away.  If she eats wheat, it comes right back.  My dad is also having problems with grains.  My other sisters have issues alright but they have not even tried giving up grains and pasta.  If I can stay away from Gluten for awhile, I could try Spelt and see if it is Wheat or Gluten.  But I think its going to turn out to be the Gluten.  And if anyone suggests medical testing and doctors bear in mind I have no insurance and I can  buy gluten free flour and give it a go cheaper than I can pay a lab not to mention a doctor.

Rice flour can actually be the worst substitute for grain flour.  http://theceliacmd.com/2015/03/arsenic-in-rice-the-gluten-free-diet-facts-and-tips/

Cornflour, buckwheat flour and Oat flour are naturally gluten free,  but make sure that you buy them from a manufactuere that certifies they are not rpoduced on the same equipment as other flours, causing cross contamination.

True, I remember those days of "cheap" gas.  But remember, in the early '50s,  $0.27 was like $2.70 today.  Candy bars were a nickel ($0.05), as was a 6oz bottle of Coke.  It was a dime ($0.10) for a 12oz bottle which is equivalent to a $1.00 today.  A new car was $2,000.  Equivalent to $20,000 today.  A nice new house was $10,000.  Equivalent to $100,000 today.  A good salary was $8,000/yr.  Equivalent to $80,000 today.  Nothing's changed except the decimal point. surprise

Non-complaint:  Already this morning I've had a mini-adventure.  Yay! yes   I saw an advertisement in the local "PennySaver" newspaper for a household sale at what seemed to be a nice address and promised some quality goods.  Figuring that it will be the last good household sale of the summer I threw caution to the wind and headed south 30 miles to Warren, Pennsylvania. https://www.google.com/search?q=warren+pa&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjszuzBn7jdAhXIz1MKHRkxA9cQ_AUIDCgD&biw=1920&bih=854  A small city in oil country of NW Pennsylvania.  (In fact, oil was successfully drilled well near there in Titusville, PA in the middle of the 19th century.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drake_Well)   Warren, being an oil town it had lots of wealthy residents and still has many large Victorian homes and mansions.   The household sale turned out to be a complete dud, I was there first thing in the morning and yet there was absolutely nothing interesting there at all.  No collections of anything except junk and kitsch, low grade furniture and obsolete electronics.  But that meant that I saved a lot of money by not buying anything.  So, to celebrate my good financial luck, I stopped at McDonalds on the way back and had an Egg McMuffin breakfast. yes  All in all, a satisfactory mini-adventure. smiley

PS:  Warren is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there because of the active oil refinery that sometimes fills the valley and city with smelly fumes. (*blech*)  And fire at the refinery nestled right up next to the city would not end well for many people. frown (It's happened before!) https://www.fireengineering.com/articles/print/volume-79/issue-16/features/two-oil-fires-near-warren-pa.html

lucky you aren't on a gastroparesis + diabetic diet.  is like crossing the streams,

  • The gluten free flour blend I picked has lots of rice flour in it, also potato and millet in one.  The company is Pamela's Products.  But first I ordered a sample of the allpurpose to test and see about the taste of GF flour.  I generally don't eat too many carbs if I made the meal from scratch.  The problem I have is with convenience foods like crackers, cakes, ramin is quick enough to fall in this group, sliced cooked white bread (grilled cheese sandwichs), pasta sides are bad as well, but we quit buying those.  There is something about picking out what you want and cooking it yourself that gives you so much more food satisfaction that you eat less.  Well, I do anyway.  I am more than happy with one slice of chocolate cake a day until its all gone, two or three days.  Six cookies with milk when I make Chocolate chips.  I set limits and I keep them when I am cooking more for some unknown reason. You try to fill a void or get rid of a craving by eating and eating and eating and still not being really happy.  I just eat a whole roll of crackers without even thinking about it.  Or a row of packaged cookies.  Grilled cheese on the hand does make me Happy, but now I at least have to bake the bread so I have to really want it and plan ahead.

If you going to try and be gluten free, be careful of soups, stews and even some prepackaged meat products. They often will have wheat of some kind in them as a filler/thickener.

I got a theory about my goldfish's odd behavior. Summer has been chasing Charley around the aquarium.  When that is not happening, Charley is staying around the corner that I put food in.  Charley has become quite plump.  My theory is that Summer is actually Mr. Summer (Guess I should change his name to Scott Summers wink) but Charley is actually a girl.  Mr. Summers is not fighting with Charley but waiting for something to happen so he can do his part.

I remember the $0.05 candy bars.  I forget the name of one that was solid chocolate, but it was really good.  And Schwitzers licorice!  The best black licorice bars I've ever had!  Do you remember the penny candy?  Western-themed white chocolate...cowboy hats, sherrif stars, cowboy boots, revolvers.  Ice Cubes, Squirrel Nuts, coconut chewy candy, some looked like watermellon slices, some pink-white-brown striped.  Those silly "flying saucers", that tasted like the host at Catholic church, with hard candy beads inside.  Lick-m-aid!  A straw filled with flavored sugar!  Yum!  laugh  So healthful!  Lipstick!  I liked those.  Bright red, soft, candy in a silver foil paper wrap, some of it sticking out.  Can't quite describe the flavor and texture, but I liked them.  Red Hotz.  Gold treasure coins, gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins

I remember long paper strips of penny candy dots.  Howdy-Doody lamps.  Roy Rogers & Dale Evans cowboy hats.  Hop-along Cassidy horses & guns,  Cars with a rope hanging across the backs of the front seats to grab to help you get out. Juke boxes.  Schlitz Beer signs in tavern windows.  Huge lobster dinners for sale at dumpy little beer taverns.  Bowling alleys with the pins reset by young boys.  78 RPM records.  Bakelite radio cases.  TVs and Radios with real wood cabinets.  Dial telephones.  4-digit phone numbers.  No air conditioning in cars or average people's homes.  Houseflies & housefly sticky strips hanging from the ceiling.  Bazillions of lightning bugs during the summer.  Frogs and toads in the yard and gardens.  Crayfish under rocks in the streams.  Vegetable gardens.  Huge ellipsoid watermelons with viable seeds.  Trash burning barrels in the backyard.  Narrow rickety wooden bridges across miles of swamp when crossing the center of Florida in 1956.  The little cow town of Orlando before Disney.  Florida beaches with no people for miles.  No buildings bigger than a cottage here and there on the Florida east coast beach road A1A from south of Daytona down to Ft. Lauderdale.  Mile long strings of pelicans coasting the shore breeze up and down the beaches.  Blue/Green glow of the sea foam and glowing foot prints in the sand at night.   Florida tourist traps with 10 foot high piles of conch shells & shelves of stuffed baby alligators.  Cars with analog clocks in the dash that never worked.  White wall tires on fancy cars.  Car tires with innertubes.  Cars with no power windows.  The car's headlight dimmer switch being on the floor near the left foot.  Completely flat car windows.  Lead Tetraethyl in the gasoline.  Smog in Pittsburgh & Buffalo steel mill areas. Metal toothpaste tubes.  Brylcream hair grease.  Wire recorders instead of tape.  Home record cutting machines.  Victrola hand crank record players.  Barns painted with ads for Mail Pouch Tobacco.  Strings of Burma Shave rhymes along the road.  Twisted crude telephone poles.  A vibrant fishing industry on Lake Erie.  An era before Interstate highways.  Kerosine lamps in homes.  Coal furnaces.  Kids playing outside.  Dogs running loose.  Home delivery of milk.  Home delivery of potato chips.  Not having a TV.  Not having a color TV.  Only one viewable channel.  Radio was AM only.  Handpumps on the kitchen sink.  I even had a Davy Crocket "Coon skin cap" with the tail dangling in the back.

Maybe it is waiting fot that package that UPS says is out for delivery since morning.
