..that's really nice.  Did you also use Angenessis for the skin texture details?

No, but I used Altern8 also a postwork tonal contrast that tends to pull details out and it was a cavas so it had a lot of details to pull.

Edit to add - I also had to use a photo for the mouse becasue I couln't find a realistic 3D one.

...I'm still staying with my heavy investment in G3, so using Angenessis 2.

Yeah, we need more realistic critters. for Iray.  With Ken the "Birdman" gone, that really put a dent in the wildlife offerings.

Wouldn't mind having some new fish as well for underwater scenes.

Ken isn't gone as far as I know, you just have to go to that other site (the H one) for his and Lisa's (botanicals) stuff these days.  I just picked up my 3rd of Ken's bundles this year during his annual audubon sale.

I have his owls, which reminds me I haven't added them to the new system yet.

...I was able to get almost all of Lisa's plants during a PC sale before she left as most were PC items then.  Only a few of Ken's birds though.

    Trying out new Synthoid!

(I tweaked the shell from full metal to .7 or so metallicity, to get the look I wanted; more hard plastic or painted metallic than full metal)

    Thank you very much.

I would not call my lighting a technique.  The HDRI I used is extremely well done - https://www.daz3d.com/iray-hdri-space - and I often find myself using at least one of these to light my figures from the front all the time - https://www.daz3d.com/iradiance-hdr-mesh-lights-volume-2-for-iray-239 - The rest is post work to adjust the lighting and colours and atmosphere.  It really varies a lot from scene to scene.

    ...interesting.

In my old Sci Fi story I had a class of ships code named "Tempest" by the Consortium.(in this universe Earth does not spawn an altruistic federation, but is a capitalistic nation).  Like NATO, they used nicknames for other stellar nations' spacecraft. "Tempests" were the name assigned to the Protectorate's mobile heavy weapons platforms designed to incapacitate but not destroy opposing warships (what better way to learn about an opponent's capability than to capture rather than destroy his technology?).
