The experiment isn't valid because what you're offering is for FREE. Even if I don't really want it, I can download it because there's no cost to get it. Getting someone to pay for an item is more of a valid test, but there are many factors involved in that test as well. The issue that you're testing for would be can a vendor (who has bills to pay) recoup their investment on male vs female clothing.. if it's free you're getting those that want it as well as people that will get it because it's free so no cost to decide wthere they will buy that or get another item instead.
I'm not even British, but I'd love to see an authentic detailed police uniform like they type they wore from about the late 1870's or 1880 to about 1900. Also the clothing that a D.I. would be wearing with the bowler hat, long coat and suit with vest. Perhaps if you're doing a 'theme', you might even include the basic inside of the station with the Sargeant's desk, a small holding cell, and a tiny D.I. office. We already have a couple nice London street scenes that might be convincing as that era. But a small scene of their station would be nice, so they'd have a place to be staged.
OMG, I was just getting ready to post my 'want', which was a Victorian era London police uniform! Eh voila!
See, I haven't even conducted the experiment and it's not valid! All I can say is I've put up male stuff and female stuff for free and the female stuff gets many many more downloads. Both free, both can be grabbed "just because". Both equal quality (or lack thereof) since I made them both. But they were never on the front page at the same time, couldn't control for variables of who is looking, etc.
This stuff isn't pro quality, it looks okay but I don't do JCMs, sometimes I have thickness but not always, etc. So freebies is all I can do since I wouldn't see it in such a state. Anyway, the experiment will go and we'll see what happens, then we can debate "why"!
160.000 active forum members?
Im planning a male set... possibly this year, depending on how my timeline runs. Its been like 6 yrs since I did one... I figure what the hey. But if it tanks.... it will be 6 yrs til I do another lol
Wonderful, we now have a briefcase, but if only the kids would stop playing with it before a big presentation.
Colin: HA!
Nice
Yeah, that still only makes up 8%. And of those 160,000 only a few thousand visit the forums on a regular bases.
Understand your experiment:
PAs say male clothing don't SELL as well as female clothing, so you plan to GIVE AWAY both clothing to see what sells better? OK.
How is that a valid experiment or even equivalent to what is being said? Good for you giving away items though.
And I'd end up getting the square-chested version and try to autofit it to the females as well LOL
Consistent. :)
You're right
Clothing and accessories :
So if they are downloaded at same rate, it doesnt say anything because its free. Agree. If the female downloads more than the male even though both are free, I think it says something. That could be that my model sucks, or that nobody wants a historical item, or maybe they want pretty dresses more than uniforms. That would be open for interpretation. Likewise if the male item outpaces the female, perhaps that says there is an unmet demand and it will get some people thinking, who knows?
But like you said, if they both get a simiar download count it doesnt show anything.
I can make any kind of men clothing, just that DAZ rigging system is very unintuitive for me :( Weight system is horrid.
Even if they are free to think that those being free isn't a valid test what is more demanded even if downloaded at equal rates. It's actually a better indicator because there are no demographics, product, or financial information being collected, sold, datawarehoused, and sold again. Simply, is it wanted, yes or no? There are many things offered for free that never have any or many takers.
When is Michael's birthday? He should get a full month of celebration with sales on clothes for guys and everyday at least 1, if not 2, new Male items. Clothes, props, poses, morphs, and textures.
That's my day dream for today.
The briefcases are already here! traditional(sorry, someone beat me to it), bag (can be scaled to serve as a samples box or portfolio carrier), satchel, flight cases,
Me too! You should make more stuff, @GhostofMacbeth!
Yeah, standing on a corner begging with a "starving artist, I gave my work away" sign only gets people yelling at you to get a better job, smarten up and quit screwing around.
That sucks because I REALLY want to purchase that military uniform you keep showing off!
The satchel looks interesting, but the rest of the outfit doesn't appeal to me and I can't see spending that much just for the bag. Thanks anyway!
This
Okay, my little experiment is underway: https://sharecg.com/pf/full_uploads.php?pf_user_name=grinch2901
Full disclosure - I only downloaded the men's set. While I don't have a lot of use for either, I could see more of a use for the British constable than the sundress... which is *exactly* how I decide what stuff I buy too. What I can I use *now* - or at least see needing in the near future - that will give me the most stuff for what I have available to spend.
That and I already have plenty of summery dresses for G3F.
Ooh, thanks for the Bobby outfit, can definitely use that since the only thing similar I have is for Poser and Mike 3 ... or was it 4? Much appreciated. Also nabbed the G2F morphing sweater in hopes of using it on G2M. Should be workable since I have the cross figure morphs for both Genesis 2 & 3. My guys wear a lot of what began as female outfits.
I hope you enjoy whatever you choose to use. Those who don't want female stuff, don't take it. Those that like to hoard stuff "just in case" so they download both but never use either, that's cool too. And those that only download the male one because they want to help send a message even thought they don't plan to use it, glad I can help with that too. It's all good!
Here's where it's not a fair test, fully. The dress is for G8F, current generation. The uniform jacket/hat is for G3M, prior generation. Also, it is buggy which I disclose in the description. So both those things could supress some downloads. So if you go there and download the uniform for no other reason than to make a point that's a good thing in my book. Don't want my poor choices and/or skills to skew things towards the girls!
It's funny but when you put things out into the world, you have to accept that most people who download them will either never use them or never share a render in public with them. I have multiple freebie items that were downloaded over 1000 times and I've never seen them in a single render anywhere. That may be the case with both of these. But in the end, it's a gift so have at it!
Since I'm in a giving mood, I am probably going to make my commando sweater available too, after I refit it to G3M and fix some issues in the shoulders. Here's another render I made with it, the shirt collar is from another set, as is the belt so don't get your hopes up there.
