I hear you DaWaterRat. I'm just trying to be pragmatic. There has always been and there will always be more female content than male. This is true of the shoe stores, department stores, shampoo aisle, etc. I feel the pain, and I want more male items too. I also feel the pain of the financial difficulties.

The simple fact of the matter is that female items have a much bigger buying base. If only 10% of the buying population get the new little black dress, that is probably a big enough number to have made the item worth making. If 10% of the people who buy male content buy an item, then it probably wasn't worth making. So the only soulution I see is that those that who want male content need to band together, rally the support for the specific items they want, and buy them when they come out.

@AllenArt - excellent, I'm looking forward to seeing your reference pictures.

    Not enough male stuff.

All familiar replies expressed.  These are not the droids you want.  Move along.

We've been maintaining a pretty steady cadence on the pro bundle releases, with 1 male character for every 2 female characters, since the release of Genesis 8.  And the ratio of male to female oriented products has consistently fallen somewhere between 2 to 1 and 3 to 1, over the various generations.

And Michael 8's birthday is right around the corner (August 22nd), so I'd certainly expect a LOT of male oriented content that week.

As customers, if you want a higher percentage of male content, let PAs know when you want a male version of a specific product, and let your spending do the talking.  If more people buy male content, well this may encourage more PA's to 'follow the money'.

New ideals were discussed in this thread but like other technical niches, ideals usually don't come from current experts, but others. So while it's harmless to discuss these ideals in a thread like this one, it also helps to recognize that if you don't agree that such threads are causing the status quo to change but instead to once again state that a dead horse is being beat, well that is actually also not productive but repeating the same behavior one says they are admonishing others not to do.

Use of 3D male content is definately skyrocketed past DAZ 3D store sales levels of female content but it is mostly being used in the digital game making hobby by Unity 3D, UE4, and other similar uses. It's just not being purchased in the DAZ Store is all.

Oh I think there are still plenty of things we could use for gen 8 male. wink A new tux. Modern military uniforms. Cowboy gear. And skimpwear.   Yes those things exist for earlier generations but autofit. Is imperfect. So no I think there is still plenty of clothing items I could use. But I’m not expecting anything. I know better than to ask for male clothing here.

+1. A nex tux and tails/white tie is really needed for all the festive occasions.

What I find lacking is Sci-Fi. So it's not just everyday clothes, it's sci-fi stuff.

There are so many ways to help without doing much work. The problem is the tightness and the boobs. Tight I can handle and eat that, but always putting deep cleavage and giant circles around the breast area is limiting. I say be lazy and make the same dang suit, just give a chest option that's covered and do one suit with the usual skimp-wear-round accentuating globes decor/deepest CLEAVAGE [Gagaahhh ] and one with a square chest area.

So I'm saying to the vendor- spend 10% of your time on the male version by ONLY making another shirt. Use the exact same files for everything else. lol, not lol.

Perhaps a PA who, understandably, doesn't want to risk putting too much time into male content with no guaranty of sufficient payback, could use gofundme (or a similar site for products) to make certain of an acceptable recovery before actually creating a set of clothing.  I know that unlike some other products, the PA could not actually sell the items through gofundme (because of distribution issues).  The amount raised would support the work (those who pay into it doing so just to encourage the content, knowing they are not purchasing anything).  Once funded, the PA could make the content and sell it through DAZ as per usual.  Whether they have large or small sales won't matter, since they collected an acceptable to them amount even before sales.

I'd love to see some nice tuxs, or clothing of the sort one sees at stores such as Abercrombie and Fitch.

Or make everyone that pays-in a beta tester and they get the item(s) for free, ahem, to test.

  • This is a long standing issue, and it kind of annoys me when people throw out, "buy male products." Most of the male products that are getting pushed out are incredibly lackluster and bland and, no offense to some of the artists/vendors, many of the male characters are ugly or worse. You get creatures for men, ugly as can be, but then you get creatures for women, and there's so much more variety for them (ugly, decent, sexy)... I want a sexy demon for men as much as the women get a sexy succubus! :(

If anything, however, I've had my money saved up for Lee 8 and (hopefully) Gianni 8. I kind of wish there was a priority to pushing out core figures before all other figures (Michael, Darius, Lee, Gianni, Victoria, Olymia, Mei Lin, etc), but I guess there's supposed to be a marketing strategy or whatnot to it.

Where I live we wear jeans and flannel shirts all year long.

Same here. That's why when the H&C Checkered Shirt Outfit was released I bought it right away. Pretty close, and I've got some flannel shaders stashed away somewhere....

The problem with this is DAZ does not have to accept the item for sale. A vendor could get initial money to begin work on an outfit for submission and it gets outright rejected for sale. If you're talking gofundme or patreon, you should leave the DAZ store out of the solution because that would be a different distribution channel  and process. The advantage of brokering is in addition to the initial sales, building up the PA catalog provides some extra sales each month, particularly when a new item is released.

Only figures that can be considered core is Michael and Victoria. Anything that returns would be based on how it sells in the last generation. I actually like this generation because with the new characters, it removes the expectation of what a name would carry and brings new things into the gene pool. At few of what you named bottomed out in sales in comparison to the last generation, so I wouldn't expect the name back, but maybe something similar will come along that has a different set of expectations.

Yes, Streetwear is Stonemason. He probably simply decided he liked creating environments more than clothing.

It's not just a money issue. There's a certain game out there on it's fourth itteration that has seen the same issue on the various free mod sites, Just far more meshes for female chars than male.

Hear, hear. And how about some accessories? E.g. a briefcase for those businessmen (not all documents fit on one's cell phone) and a more casual briefcase / leather satchel for our Professor characters.

I don't know if i'm allowed to provide the link but there's a nice modern looking briefcase over at Hivewire called "Morning Commute Briefcase". And It's only $5.

I think I am going to run an experiment. Two freebies, one a British constable uniform jacket and hat for G3M, the other a casual summer dress for G3F.  I'll use download count and "thanks" as a parametric for "sales". Let's see what "sells" more when the price is right.  Look for them on ShareCG today or tomorrow.

in the forums your only getting about 8% of the customer base so those numbers aren't going to be right.

What's your name on shareCG? LOL, I will download both.

I can tell you that when I shared a set of Genesis 8 iRay shader settings (before I deleted them) they were more popular than the toon 'Bewitched' scene I shared. How popular varied by a factor of 5 to 6 times as many downloads. However, 'likes' and 'comments' I received twice as many for Bewitched as for the G8 shader settings.

That hints to me far more people that are DAZ customers that never visit the forums or write tickets to DAZ support that are disatisfied with their attempts realistic renders and want a fix and want DAZ 3D made easier for a complete amateur, much easier, without dropping a ton of cash that doesn't get them there.

Daz forums are a poor way to post freebies or communicate about them. I’ve found that renderosity has a better setup for freebies and also awards points to freebie posters.

That's just the thing about these sorts of threads, as Frank stated, the forums reflect only about 8/10% of what's really going on with sales.

I think you might not have unchecked "hide items I own" I'm getting 138 for g3m vs 593 for g8f... still not great by any means, but a bit better for certain

It'll be on sharecg, so not just DAZ users. Anyway, the worst that happens is folks get free stuff and say the experiment isnt valid. But I've posted freebies before and I think I know how this is going to play out. Still, this time though they will be posted at the same time so people going there will see both in the "new stuff" window at the same time.

I am also mindful that a historical uniform jacket / hat may  not have the appeal of a contemporary dress so I may offer this instead but would update it for G8M (I'm going to make the dress G8F as well):

For me I only download freebies without strings so for me I am wary of sites with unclear usage terms.

Also only counts what's currently in the store. A lot of stuff has been retired while stuff for the girls hasn't retired as quickly. The latest product number is about 53467, yet the front page only shows 30049. That's 23,000 products no longer in the store.
