...yeah the Columbia Gorge can have a profound effect on the local weather here in the city due to winds coming out of the high desert east of the Cascades.  This is why during the winter we can have snow in the city while maybe 3 miles to the north and south it is raining, and during the summer we get 100°+ temperatures.

Non-complaint:  Weakening memory, has its advantages. surprise I love to go riding in the car and listen to the classical radio station.  Unfortunately I often only hear part of a piece and have to leave the car when I get to my destination.  Then, for the rest of the day I wonder what the piece was and how I missed it all these decades. indecision So, when I get home I go to the station's web page and look up what was playing at that time of day and it turns out to be one of my old favorites. frown  And it's really disturbing when it's one of the pieces I actually knew how to play on the piano (well, parts of it anyway) sad

I just re-discovered the Saint-Saens 1st piano concerto.  It must have been a long time since I'd listened to it because I did NOT recognize it, but I knew it was beautiful. yes

Saint-Saens: Piano Concero #1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFPBIZenrqk The part I had heard was the 4 minutes at the end of the 1st movement 8:00 to 11:55.  Third movement begins at 19:53.

I want to complain about people who live above their means or live paycheck to paycheck and show up with their hands out wanting a loan they intend to pay back like whenever!!!

Okay, when I was divorced and raising my two daughters on the autism spectrum no one babysat,  no one helped me.  I was given maybe a total of $600 dollars while I was going threw a divorce, and had to get all new clothes and furnishings because family and children services demanded it, between my grandmother and Great Aunt Ella. Well one person did help, I have a second cousin that is older than my dad and has a doctorate in special ed and she befriended me and took my calls and gave me the information I needed to do it without any help from the rest of my selfish idiot family.  To say I was living in poverty is an understatement.  My educated aunts scorned me for not going to college and being dependant on my husband.  I could not work due to my children's needs.  I could hardly afford the special daycare costs they would incure nor would anyone have done a better job than I did because I threw some cash at them along with my children.  I learned to live within my means.  I learned to be happy while doing so.  I cooked whole foods for my children even if it was cheaper cuts of meat.  I became a very good cook.  My grandfather was a doctor, all of his children lived above their means even  if their means were considerable.  They all went to grandpa for handouts, private schools for their kids etc so on and so forth.  I married a workacholic at 19 and was ready to to be an exotic dancer if I didn't have to beg Papa for anything.  And so did I mention I did some dancing when I was young?  I was put down by the femininst for being uneducated, a stay at home mom, being married to a domineering man.  Divorced from a domineering man I was raising my children alone in poverty. They warned their daughters to go to school so they didn't have my sorry life.  I remarried my domineering ex-husband.  Truth is I am smart but indecisive so I don't mind if he is willing to step up and be the boss.  I learned during my divorce how to make money stretch really far. He hoped I'd have run to him for more money. That is never gonna be my style.  It looked like he'd given me too much cause I was living it up on that tiny amount instead.

Let's talk about the feminist relatives who were asking Papa for money and putting me down because I married a man like Papa.  Lets talk about the fact my husband is part owner of three stores now and I am richer than all of them. Let's talk about the fact I'd never have settled for sorry husbands like they had.  Let's talk about how much my relationship with my husband looks like my grandparents' relationship today.  Its wonderful.

Back to people living above their means.  Lucky for me and them, my aunts and uncles have never asked me for money.  A few people in my life do live paycheck to paycheck.  We are their emergency loan fund.  Being quite thrifty ourselves and living well within our means, they annoy me.  I had two kids to raise and so much less to work with for 10 years.  It angers me that it is so easy for them to beg for a loan.  It angers me that they feel entitled to a level of comfort I did not afford myself and my children due to my own pride.  They may be eating more expensive food than me while they owe me money, using more expensive toilet paper and paper towels or having more pets, or not using condoms and having more kids.  In short, I am annoyed with them and I want them to grow up.  I think its time time to tell them they made their bed its time to lay in it when they come begging. Perhaps I should not have cheated myself and my kids by being proud.  But we were not unhappy.  I love being thrify. I love seeing how much we have saved together at the end of the year.  I love all the things I learn to do myself so I don't have to be nice to snotty hairdressers and dog groomers and the like.  Managing money and saving money is a fun game to me now.  But I think people who are not play the game to make due are play a discusting game of who can I use and I don't like it.

I feel so much better!  I could not get why it bothered me so much.  What it turned out worried me was that I had some how cheated my kids by being so prideful.  But we were all happy.  Not everyone is a work-acholic.  One of my daughters is disabled and I am glad she understands life doesn't have to stink even if you don't have wads of cash.  I do worry that by being there for others, they are not really growing up as much as my own children are.  Everyone uses money, learning to make the most of it can be fun and exciting and challenging.  Some people are perfectly fine with learning to beg and use other people instead.  I guess I believe in using the money you have as well as you can and making do, but I'm not okay with using people.  I don't think anyone should act like they can't cut a corner and use the John Wayne toilet paper if that is what your budget demands.  Others live this way and so too can you.  If it was good enough for my kids, it will do you too!

Non-complaint:  Taking advantage of the relatively good weather this morning I drove uptown again today for another micro-adventure. yes Went into Office-Max and sucessfully avoided buying anything except a pack of cloths for cleaning display screens and other electronics. indecision The cloths were in a deep discount sale bin and I couldn't pass up the bargain.  There should be a law against putting things in bins and selling them at deep discounts! frown  After paying for the cloths with the spare change in my pocket.  I delivered a computer laptop that I'd serviced and got paid for that.  Went to the bank and pulled out enough cash for the next 3 weeks (trying to wean myself from using my credit card). yes  But forgot to deposit the check from the laptop job. frown  I also stopped in at the store where last week I'd walked off and forgotten my purchases.  The cashier remembered me and even walked around the store to pick up the items again for me.  Very nice!  I topped off my grocery shopping and got into the house before it started to rain.  The rest of the afternoon was spent cooking up a couple pounds of hamburg into burgers, frying a chicken breast, making jello, chopping up a boneless ham half into six one-pound chunks and freezing them and washing dishes.  All in all, not a bad day.  I need more of those. smiley

    ...nice.

Went for an afternoon walk then stopped at the nearby pub on the way back for a couple pints.  Did some remote chat with a friend and getting together on Saturday (the nicest day of the weekend). All in all, a good day here as well.

Non-complaint:  Yea!  I got my credit card refund back from the on-line auction.  Money is now in my account and the account shows a negative balance.  Yea! smiley

I think I'll treat myself to a movie today.  The new movie "Ready Player One" seems like a perfect movie for 3D.  So, I'm off to the movies, I have my earplugs ready and extra cash for the obscenely overpriced popcorn.  Gonn'a be mesmerized by 3D shenanigans. yescool

I am not used to a credit card so a negative balance to me is a bad thing.

I'd recommend getting a decent book on digital video editing and signing up for After Effects CC at $19.95 a month.  I used After Effects CC and it's a killer editor and motion graphics tool.  Work your way through tutorials and ask questions on Adobe forums and if you're self-motivated you can do a LOT.  I will also recommend a few regular cinematography books as the basic principles are applicable to digital cinema as well.

Also try EdX or Khan Academy for online classes.  Sometimes they have good stuff!

Yeah, I started at Florida Institute of Technology in 1966 and the cost per quarter (3 quarters in an academic year) was $800 for tuition, room & board total!

Solution's easy, build a time machine and go back 50 years to get your education. enlightened (but bring 2018 money with you)  (in fact, with 2018 knowledge you could probably teach them a thing or two. surprise)

Rice will jack your sugar up. I had to give it up.

...true, but what else do you put General Tso's or Orange Chicken on?  Grain based noodles are very high on carbs which also turn to sugar so that isn't much better. Need a little starchiness to counter the sauce.

Brown rice might be a bit better, and you don't really taste that much difference, especially if you're putting some kind of sauce on it.  You could also try quinoa.

...yeah, but it takes forever to cook.

15 to 20 minutes for quinoa.  Minute Brown rice is "Ready in 10 minutes".  Same for Uncle Ben's Instant Brown Rice.  Uncle Ben's whole grain brown rice takes about 30 minutes.  All a long way from forever!

...the natural jasmine rice I use takes about 10 min, cooks up perfectly every time, and is the proper match for my Thai cooking.  I never bother with the big name over processed brands.

Not sure.  Try looking here: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/after-effects/using/basics-rendering-exporting.html

I just buy the regular store brand long grain brown rice in a bag, not instant, not processed, just cleaned and packaged.  1 cup rice, 2 cups water, cover, boil then simmer until water absorbed (about 20 minutes, throw in a small jar of gravy & some diced chicken breast, heat & stir occasionally till bubbling, let cool.  Ta da, bachelor's chicken & rice.  portion into four 1-cup bowls, cover with plastic wrap, refrigerate for later microwaving & consumption. yes

I'll take the damage from normal rice before I eat 'instant'.  I have no problem with that.  It's not worth howver many sorry, sad days of life it might add. #TooOldToCare.

Like my biweekly corn tortillas steamed in butter and picante sauce.  Bad for me? Yep.  Insanely tasty? Yep.  Worth the damage? Damn straight.

I'm about quality, not quantity, of life.  'Nuff said on my part.

    Nap time!!! :-)

Came home and nobody is home.  I do not have any keys to the house.  My phone battery was at 3%.  It dawned on me to check battery level of notebook as that can be like a portable battery thing since it has a battery and 3 usb ports.  It also can connect to the home internet even though I am not inside.

I used to have dreams that I could turn any piece of paper into a web browser.  All I had to do was somehow write the URL on the top and the page became a browser.   Of course that does not happen in real life.

Someone is home now so I got to post this and get inside.
