    Thanks, Luci!

(For those just joining us, we prefer to have a complete list of freebies so that folks who look through the thread in future years can find the items we've used and make their own images with these pieces. The challenges are like the various "free resources" threads here, but more fun and not as organized... :-) )

Bonus feature of the Contest and links, you get to SEE the item used in a render before you click the link. To me that makes a big difference.

Oh my goodness, I don't think I've entered a freebie contest since last October! Stupid real life always getting in the way... I'm really excited about this month's theme. The entries so far are great and I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with! I just moved into a new apartment, and I have internet access again, so I will have to try to get an entry in this month.

And I thank you for all the work that you and Alexa put into maintaining the gallery.

Oh, yes - changing the topic somewhat, there's no limit to how many entries one may make. (The only person under a limitation is me; I'm the host, so I'm not allowed to compete at all. I got to enter last month and I'll get to enter next month.)

I hope that the SF from the 30's can be considered as retro-SF or at least as retro-retro-SF :-) In any case, this is a personal Hommage to Fritz Lang's masterpiece "Metropolis".

    ... NOTICE ...

I am writing this to let you all know that my health is fine. I had a short bout with it, but have been fine for a while now. The main reason for this notice is to inform all of you that I will no longer be running this challenge. After five years of my hard work to keep this contest alive and on the first page of the forum, I have finally reached a point where I just do not have time for the contest any longer. Real life comes first.
I want to thank all of you who have helped (my ETOs) and become a regular in the challenge. I will miss you all. I will be peeking in from time to time, but will no longer be a part of it.. So I will simply say, it was fun for 5 years and a lot of work, I just hope you all carry on without me.

Thanks to all, good luck and see ya.

Oh dear, was browsing to see if I could get any ideas for a series we used to listen to on the radio, way back when.

Had to laugh when I saw this description.

Classic 1950s science-fiction, set in the far-flung future of the late 20th century.

    Hmmm

it's a sad sad day when our fearless leader lays down his sword and walks away. I will refrain from making any comments as to why this has happened, just that I hope that some people can see what happens when you push too hard. You will be greatly missed around here my good friend and I hope that this doesn't become a trend with some of us that have been here for several years. Drop by and get a pie in the face from old jeeperz big guy any time your in the thread. I will do my best as an ETO to carry on the tradition of our usual fun around here, but can I just say.... "it will NEVER be the same here again"

I was wondering when somebody would reference one of the stories I mentioned in the challenge's opening post... :-)

I can't clearly see Biff, Lehm, or Soto’s Flat Top, so by the posted rules I can't count #4, #5, or #7 toward your total - but you have enough other freebies that this doesn't matter.

It's sad to see you go, music, but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Does this affect the June and October challenges?

Oh! Does "the direction the challenge is heading in the future" affect this month's challenge? I don't want to change the rules in the middle of the challenge - that isn't fair to everyone who has already entered.

Yes this will affect the June & October Challenges; because we will need a new host(s) for those months. This will not impact your hosting of this month very much.

Music is aware of some information concerning the future of the freebie challenges that he does not agree with. He confided some of that information to me & I can see why he made the decision to leave the challenge.

He is not leaving the forums; he is still contributin to the Car & Bike Lover's thread & you can probable catch up with him there.

    "Very much"? Oh, dear.

My appologies to all here for such a drastic exit, I am not the kind to want to upset anyone. Let's just say... that my real life has become very busy as my business has tripled the last 6 months, and I just do not have time for changes or debates. I can barely keep up with it all as it is, and I just can't deal with the aggrivation of more rules, changes, gathering email addys to send for CGs, new folks with all the questions and rule bending...etc. I think the challenge will take care of itself just fine with me gone and Daz running it. I bow out graciously, no hard feelings.

Please remember I love you all and will miss you all deeply, but at this point, I must go. Thank all of you wonderful and funny people for helping the freebie challenge become such a great "get away" and MAKING DAZ HISTORY FOR THE LONGEST RUNNING CONTEST TO STAY ON THE FIRST PAGE OF A FORUM FOR OVER 5 YEARS! God bless you all.

Sorry to see you go Music. You have been a steady hand at the rudder of this little ship called the freebie challenge.

A note: I am in the process of putting the July freebie contest together. It would be most appreciated if I am advised of any new requirements, restrictions. Can someone please provide the hosts with the new "rules". I don't want to have my idea go up in smoke because of the new rules and if I need to change then give me some time to come up with another idea. Thank you.

BWSman, I would not object if we just did the same challenges for those months. I would be willing to host, October, with that month's traditional theme. This is contingent with what the new rules will be however.

Presenting "The future is now", my entry (in the monthly challenge) with two flying cars! Well, they're parked in the showroom right now, but I assure you they'll fly quite well after you take one home. Your family will thank you!

    Purchased items:
"Engine 11.cr2" from the FVCS (Flight Vehicle Construction Set, which is no longer in the store last I checked.)
    CeCe Veil Hair: http://www.daz3d.com/cece-veil-hair
    gemologica: http://www.daz3d.com/gemologica

    Free items:
    Genesis buttoned heeled shoes: http://www.sharecg.com/v/67165/gallery/21/DAZ-Studio/Genesis-Buttoned-Heeled-Shoes
    retro travel case: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=63453
    Old Microphone: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=60214
Stonemason's Dystopia Furniture: http://stefan-morrell.com/ (under Downloads)
    Classic convertible car: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=64435
    Classic car: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=64402
    S3D hoverbike http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=70859
    50's galpal dress http://www.sharecg.com/v/55357/view/5/3D-Model/50s-GalPal
    morphing picture frame http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=37859
    EDITED TO ADD:
    mcjRadio: mcjRadio https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts2/mcjradio-prop
    Pearl Necklace for V4: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=56300

    EDITED TO ADD Primitive list:
The room walls and ceiling are a primitive cube.
The TV tube is a primitive cube converted to subD and deformed slightly.
The TV swivel mount is a copy of the tube, squished flatter and lowered slightly into it.
The TV power light is a primitive sphere.
The 3 TV control knobs and round base are primitive cylinders.
The TV table is a primitve cylinder, stretched.
The floor is a primitive plane.
The round white carpets are primitive spheres, squished flat.
The square white carpet is a primitive plane.
The ceiling light fixtures are a squished primitive sphere in the center, a squished primitive torus for the outer ring, and an uber area light disk for the actual light source.
Materials that didn't come with the above freebies are a combination of things I started with using the shaders from Gemologica, the ones that come with DAZ Studio, and/or me just fiddling around in the surfaces tab and Gimp.

Various items were retextured, which included hiding the car manufacturer logos on the two cars. The hoverbikes were turned upside-down and placed just touching the backs of the cars, and the FVCS engines were placed just touching the sides of the cars, however you should still be able to clearly see the shapes of the original objects.
The shoes are actually open-toed, but you can't tell because I made them black and have Genesis's toes hidden and the shoe tips are intentionally in the dark in this render since I didn't have any other shoes that would have worked. If you don't want to count this as a qualifying clearly-seen freebie, that's ok, I should still have enough without it.
All free items remain undistorted, but the purchasedFVCS engine rotor blades were originally square, which I didn't want so I applied smoothing to change them to a more rounded shape.
It was actually surprisingly hard to come up with a render without intentionally squishing or stretching or partially hiding parts, I'm not used to trying to avoid that; quite the opposite.
Let me know if anything needs to be changed or violates the spirit of the contest and I can make changes. Otherwise if it's all ok, this is the final submission.

It's a lovely image that definitely fits the theme - there's no problems there. And we've all re-textured clothing items and hidden inconvenient bits in the past, so that's all right.

However... There are a few items in the render that you didn't declare - the radios, the television tube, and the room itself. If any of them are paid items, that would put you over the limit... Do you have links for them? (I'll accept your word if they're freebies that you've lost track of, if that's all you can give me.)

    ENTRY #007: STATUS PENDING

(And now I have to attend a meeting halfway across town. I'll be back this evening...)

Whoops, I forgot both the radio and the necklace. I've edited my original post. The radio is the mcjRadio from https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts2/mcjradio-prop , and the necklace is "Pearl Necklace for V4" from Pearl Necklace for V4: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/details.php?item_id=56300 .

    Everything else is just primitives:
The room walls and ceiling are a primitive cube.
The TV tube is a primitive cube converted to subD and deformed slightly.
The TV swivel mount is a copy of the tube, squished flatter and lowered slightly into it.
The TV power light is a primitive sphere with a pointlight in it.
Materials used are a combination of things I started with using the shaders from Gemologica, the ones that come with DAZ Studio, and/or me just fiddling around in the surfaces tab and Gimp.
