welcome katfeete, you may have run across the last contest you'll ever want to join.... ( just kidding) this one is addicting. We have alot of fun around here and if you're not careful and quick you may get a virtual pie in the face. Nice render. We do allow for freebies that you can't find, and you listed it correctly.
One more round of quick rules questions (sorry about that):
1) It's ok to retexture the freebies as long as they aren't lost against a background with the same texture, right?
2) I know the items aren't allowed to be distorted in any way like only visible in a rippled water reflection, but if I can combine multiple items to form a different new item, but can still clearly see the original two items, is that ok? (A made-up example: a normal gun and some random stacked-cylinder object stuck to the tip of the barrel to create a Buck Rogers style gun out of it.)

Greetings and welcome, katfeete! Given the quality of your first entry, I hope you'll be here for many challenges to come.
That's a lovely book cover... er, render. The links all check out (possibly excepting Skydome, but that's because I'm currently using an older browser that doesn't have Flash support - I'll check the link when I get to my usual render computer), and it definitely fits the theme.
It's traditional to mark which freebies require registration to download, but they let me get away without doing that the first time I posted a render, so we'll let you get away without it, too. :-)

For a laugh I just checked and yup -- yup, I had a render entered in the very first freebie contest. I think I may have done the second too.... It's just that between the full-time job, the time-eating comic hobby, the now-a-toddler, and the various things that have exploded in my life in the past few years, I haven't had much time to do for-play renders or be on the forums very much. But as I said, y'all are coming up with some really cool challenges that make my backbrain itch. :)
Sorry about the registration thing; that's new (to me anyway) and frankly I've had my Renderosity and ShareCG memberships so long I forget you have to be logged in to download. :D I'll be more careful in future!

@Odaa, I like it. You said it was not an entry because you have one too many paid items; if you wanted to try to find a free substitute for one of them so you can still enter it into this contest, you could list those items and perhaps you'll get lucky and somebody might have a suggestion.

The lighting is just two lights - Uberenvironment with a funky redish HDR and an UberArea light above and to the left with a falloff. The bright light from the bottom front was from the HDR map. The HDR map was free. I can give you the url after I check to see which one I ended up using. (I played with lighting a lot.)
