Game Print? Need more information.

I hate to post and go to bed, but I'm afraid I'll forget in the morning...

This Game Print option looks interesting, and I completely understand that costs are going to be highly variable, but could we at least get some examples?  "This is G3F wearing X skimpwear armor and with Y hair, and here's the prices for that at Z scale in these materials.  This is G3M wearing A oversized armor and carrying Q weapons, and the prices for that at Z scale in these materials are here."

Just some kind of guideline so that I'm not buying the plug in blind in terms of what it's *actually* going to cost to get stuff printed.  And no, high prices won't neccisarily scare me off.  I just want to know how much to budget for them.

DAZ just tapped into a way to rob me blind and fill my shelves with figurines

I have an XYZ printer but it's utter crap and until now the inability to do our custom charcters and clothing stopped me from buying

    but now eeeeeek

I know right? That 3D print thing looks awesome.

However, wish that store page had more detail about pricing and all that other important stuff

Couldnt find anything from googling "GamePrint" either frown

Also of interest would be shipping costs. Not all of us hail from Eagleland, and I remember the one time I bought something from the states that the shipping was more expensive than the items.

@th3Digit, I'd be finding shipping prices for a start - assuming it's in the USA and I know postage over here ain't gonna be cheap.

  • jakibluejakiblue Posts: 7,281

So..you gotta pay to be able to set up the 3d print, then pay to get it printed and then pay to get it shipped. And there's absolutely no indication anywhere of quality, print prices or even shipping prices, or even of how long it will take.

I was under the impression that we actually couldn't 3dprint any of the daz figures due to licencing. Whether it was printing out 50 for resale or even 1 for personal use.

The GamePrint section on their site is listed as coming soon. Looking at a 12" figure in one of the other sections cost about $470. That's hand painted and looks great but way out of my budget for a single figure. The pricing and materials for GamePrint may be slightly different.

The plugin looks like it will convert your model to a format that their store will accept. Because of the terms mentioned many times before in the Daz EULA, I'm guessing that this will be a format that is not compatible with any other 3d printers eg STL, but a proprietary format that only GamePrint can use.

Would have preferred a plugin that would have allowed us to print our own models for sale, for example something that retopologises the model, or a licence that grants you permission to. But then it's created by a company so that you can buy stuff from their site, not Daz, so it does what it was meant to.

No - shipping and customs handling would probably exceed $50 where I am. Plus 25% sales tax on items AND postage.

Shipping from the States to Australia isn't cheap (and vice versa).

it mentions they are "hand painted". whew, that's gonna up the price a bit.

  • The whole damned thing is REALLY vague. I own my own 3d printer and I wonder if this will allow me to print on my printer because screw paying for a plugin to not even be able to print things myself. Having to pay shipping on top would be salt in the wound too

  • Yeah, this is very confusing. Why would I buy a plugin just to allow me to buy 3D prints? Especially when there's no information anywhere. Even licensing would be a nice start. Are these personal use only?

Also like to know what material the print is made out of, etc. Will the smoothing and detailing on the actual prints be as nice as the example models? Because they look slick as can be, much above the quality of even $10k 3D printers, can't even see where the support elements were attached, there's definitely been hand polishing on them or very selective photo angles.

  • even at $50 that's fantastic !!!

...well I'd love to have a figure of both Leela as KK, but not at a "mystery" price.. Not sure those "painters" would get either right as Leela is a true ginger (with freckles) and not a darker redhead while KK is a true albino.

this was posted in the other thread - i missed this before. Still doesn't give much more info.

Honestly, selling the plug in but giving NO indication whatsoever on average printing prices is a bit silly.

...to tell the truth, I'd rather have affordable access to render servers for Iray so I don't have to buy and expensive GPU card.

    Hi everyone

i was lucky enough to "beta test" that plugin in and i created the "demon girl scene" showcased on the DAZ site (using "Tara 2" character from Kayless if you were wondering).
I recieved 2 versions of the character, 7 inches and 12 inches.
7inch is very good, hand painted.
12 inch is exceptional, with toes carefully painted wil they are less than 1 mm big.

I can not help or give infos about the pricing because i do not have that kind of information but if you have any question on the quality or build or if you want additional pictures, just shoot.

Here is a picture of both sizes, compared to the V7 3d print some of us recieved a couple of years ago.

And added import duty as well at that kind of price. (Edit: oops, didn't see you already mentioned customs...)

    Hi :)

The standard quality 7 inch figure is $250 (very nice and high quality), during the next 2 weeks there is also a 10% discount  which means that you will make up for the plugin price from your first order =) the collectible quality is per request and varies depending on the complexity of the model, for example a 12 inch extremely detailed character might cost above $450 for a collectible quality but still the standard quality is really high and it is on a fixed price.

The payment you make for the plugin will be deducted from the discount you will be getting which is 10% =) given the current price then you will actually save on the print cost, the quality of the prints are what you are seeing in the images, these are not renders, these are actual prints! and we have been working heavily with Daz team over the past couple of years to give an amazing quality, the standard quality is $250 without the 10% discount, we can't control the shipping prices because that depends on the location but we do deliver in 2-4 weeks from the time of order.

My thoughts entirely!  While not a kings ransom for the plug in, I could buy it and see, but I am sick of buying plugins that are a fight to load, a fight to get working, a fight to reinstall every time DAZ updates its self and then, when finally working, don't really do what they say or infer it does. Remember "measure metrics" which suggested you could change a figure to achieve specific dimensions? Instead you had to change the figure old style and just keep remeasuring it until you got to where you wanted to be.

All "plug in" issues aside, what exactly are we buying here?  Is this just $12 as a down payment on your first figure or does the "plug in" actually do something aside take you to the shop site?
