  • Thought I'd show off The Condor's bridge. Ptrope's 23rd Century Bridge, displays retextured and Iray settings on em, Bridge 3 from Rendo,  and MdBruffy's Lydia bridge console, again displays retextured with Iray settings applied.

That looks fantastic. Love the lighting and tweaks you did to it.

So I did a little work on the bridge set, placed the chairs and parented them to their respective stations.  Then I went and played with a few of my recent acquisitions.  Callie 6, and DG Iray Toon Styles.
I'm stuck on my laptop right now because I'm waiting on a new motherboard for my desktop right now, so I only cooked the render for about 300 itterations.  That's why it's quite grainy.

I let a closeup cook for longer.

That's pretty much the same expression I'd have walkign on to that bridge. Still an amazing job!

Thanks Much! Haven't heard from you on DA for some time!

You're welcome!  Yeah I've been involved with my new job. They actually realize I have skills and am useful and can fix things but that also means I'm in high demand and work a lot of extra hours when I need to so my modeling and art time has decreased rapidly coupled with us packing up the house to prep it to sell for a move on top of that. I did have some time recently though. ;)

I also saw "The Orville"... and I loved it!

Was it very much like The Next Generation's first episode? You bet'cha, but it got better and I suspect that The Orville will as well.

It's not intended to be a strictly scifi show or a true comedy, but somewhere in between, which I suspect accounts for a number of the negative reviews as this makes it hard to define.

Will I continue to watch it? Absolutely.

Will I watch Discover? Not a chance.

Have to agree, the Orville was a blast. It's that burst of light-hearted fun I wanted in my sci-fi.

Although I will be watching Discovery along with Orville though. One will be a palette cleanse for the other I think LOL

Here's a shot for the upcoming teaser page for the Flight Of The Condor fancomic...

Oh wow. Lots going on there!  Looks great!

At least you're getting overtime! My car payments and internet are killing me, especially with no overtime. Thanks for the kinds words too!

Very cool!  And no it's not overtime. I'm salary now, BUT I'm still making more salaried than I ever did working almost 3 months straight with over time in my prevous job so it's all very much good. ;)

Got a few things to share. I'm importing the little Liberty class bridge (the civilian scout class ship) into DAZ and have been doing some test renders. :)

I started assembling it with the starboard side of the bridge along with the main ceiling and floor pieces. The console and display textures are obviously temporary. Plus they aren't tied into the main computer yet. ;)  The turbolift's in the saucer of the Liberty tie into the evacuation system as there are two escape pods just off the bridge that launch as soon as the turbolifts are full (6 people per), hence needing an airlock door on every deck where the turbolifts meet to keep the deck pressurized. If you haven't seen my rough render from a few pages back, the bridge on the Liberty only has 3 consoles and is smaller than every bridge out there including the battle bridge of the Enterprise D. You're looking at 24 x 25 ft area minus what's taken up by the consoles, curvature of the outer hull, the turbolifts, among other things. I included the plaque as a separate image. I didn't do all the hard work behind the plaque, I just customized it for the ship. There is a bit of World War II and Vietnam history there behind some of the nomenclature and even the name of the ship, and like every Trek series since TNG some jokes as well. The starboard side of the bridge is pretty much done. I'm thinking I need one of the touchpads I made for the Connie corridors for the airlock walls, but I'm going to focus on getting the forward console as well as the port side of the bridge loaded in.

Oh, and I'm experimenting with 'animal hide' for my Starfleet uniforms here. I think I'm going back to cloth for the regular outfits though and just using the leather on their away jackets. I do like the look though

I've decided that the only way Discovery makes sense to me is as another "Riker visits the holodeck", but this time it's a historically inaccurate fiction.

I know, I know, I know.... Finish a project before starting another!
This one is being designed in Marvelos Designer, and will be exported as an object file.  I will then either try to enlist the talents of someone skilled in clothing rigging, or try to fumble my way through the process.
    On to the fun part!
Star Trek Wrath of Khan and later Enlisted Jumpsuit for Genesis 8 Female.  It is in the early stages made from scratch without a pattern to go from.  Still lots of stuff to do, but it's a start.

Made some more progress.  Added the Belt, Belt Loops, that pannel on the back, and bloused the legs for Boots.
BTW, this uniform will be BYOB (bring your own boots)

Wish this would be for Genesis 3. I am not gonna upgrade for the forseeable future, as I like G3 alot and see no reason for upgrading. Heck, I still use V4 and M4!

More progress on the uniform.  Sleeve Cuffs, Hip Pocket, and Shoulder Bars in place.
And as for a Genesis 3 version.  When I export the final .obj file, I will re-drape it for Genesis 3 (they are the same shape, just A pose vs. T pose), and maybe Genesis 2 and older figures.  Then it will be up to others to rig them as conforming clothing.  (and they will all share the same UV mapping, so all of them will share the same textures)

For realistic folds and bends, you may want to pose her in some basic poses and redrape, then those objs could be used for spawning clothing morphs (I think).

Well, I feel like I'm single handedly blowing up this thread...
Here's some more progress, and a couple of test renders in Studio.  The assigned materials are just in place for colors.
I have the base mesh for all of the fabric components done, now I need to do all of the hardware (Belt Buckle, Star Fleet Pin, Ranks), finalize the UV mapping, make the textures, and find someone to rig it as conforming clothing.  (and find a good pair of boots for the uniform)

  • Here's a question... Does anyone know exactly when Starfleet started using the Enterprise insignia as the official symbol for the fleet? Reason I ask is the Flight Of The Condor takes places mostly around the last two years of Kirk's five year mission, and would end sometime before TWOK. So I may need to design an Insignia for the Condor.

By the time of the Motion Picture, the insignia had standardized across starfleet.  It sounds to me like the standardization happeneed at the same time as the uniform switchover (If Starfleet is anything like the US Military, everyone gets something like 5 years to make the switchover when a new uniform design comes out.)  Reason has it that if your ship is out on it's 5 year mission when the change happens, your crew will keep the same uniforms in action till mission complete.

  •  I assumed for years that it happened maybe around the time the Enterprise underwent refit, but there seems to be conflicting statements. Since the first mission of the Condor would be around the first few months of the fourth year of Enterprise's five year mission, Maybe I could get away with it for the Condor and her crew? They'd be at Earth, so it seems to me that Starfleet might've instituted the symbol change... Though that may mean I'd have to change their uniforms too...

Fourth year of the TOS/Animated Series 5 year mission?  Stick with the classic style uniforms.  (on a side note, the beige 70s style uniforms would probably look out of place on the TOS style ship.)

That's what I'm thinking. If the Condor was straight up TOS, I'd completely agree that the TOS uniforms would be the only option. But the Condor is stylistically and design-wise meant to bridge the gap, so shares features of both the show and TMP. So while I'll likely not do it, it POSSIBLY wouldn't look completely out of place. My GF has been lobbying for a "hybrid" uniform that is the TMP uniforms but colored like the show.

  • So she just had me look at this to make her point... I could possibly see this working...

So, after having watched the first three eppisodes of The Orville.  It feels to me a lot like Star Trek The Next Generation, but with a bit of a potty mouth.  (I absolutely love the solution they came up with for the second eppisode!)

Messing with shaders, and finished up the belt buckle and Insignia.
And I found some boots that work pretty good with it.

On a side note, in the attached zip file you will find .obj files for my wrath of Khan belt buckle and enlisted insignia that are scaled correctly for Daz Studio.

Did anyone watch the Star Trek Discovery series opening two parter?
While I do not like the Klingon design they came up with, I'm digging the Ship design inside and out and the uniform design.  (They look way better in motion than they did in the promo images)

My opinion is... Good start, now don't f*** it up.

I watched the first part and I absolutely loved it! Even the new Klingon design—it feels a lot more alien even than the Kelvin timeline films. Still need to watch part 2 though. wink

  • So, here's the rec deck for the Condor. It's meant to be the "prototype" for the one on the refit Enterprise. I spent ALOT of time making this set to scale, and attempted to match the ship's hull as best as I could. I even took out one of my Enterprise models and measured the window spacing and tried to replicate that!
