And not looking forward to waiting for a new ipad at all, I guess mid august isn't far away but waaaahhh changes when more of the same would have been quite comfortable ;)

...I can't wait myself for mid August to roll around. Finally I'll have my own place again and no longer living the "squatter" lifestyle I've been in for the past several months.

There is no place like home hey :)

Blueface with orange ears........ Mmmm from the description I guess you're talking about Lagiacrus.

If so, then those aren't ears but horns, and are usually a more reddish color :>

Not sure why they made them orange for the plush heh, but I love that little grumpy look on the lil stuffed leviathan heee

Kilgore Trout? I think he's never coming back.

I don't know who that is, but the reference was to Serpent, Troutface, or Woolie Loach, different aliases he used here.

...Kilgore Trout was a fictional character created by Kurt Vonnegut who was also a "published" sci fi author. Trout appeared in a number of Vonnegut's novels as a recurring personality.

Read that Kilgore Trout's name was a play on the name of science fiction writer Theodore Sturgeon. smiley

    ...yes that was the basis.

I actually met Mr Sturgeon. (along with Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle) at a small Sci Fi Convention back in the 80s.  Just sat for a couple hours and listend to him tell stories of what is was like back in the days when himself, Heinlien, Asamov, and the other founders of modenr Sci Fi were paid a penny a word for their work.  WHne he asked me what I was doing, I mentioned about a story I dea I was working on.  He loved the concept of my Sabinno (a felinoid race or which I studied felines in depth for several years to get the nuances down) along with their culture and was very encouraging.  Alas the story went into "mothballs" as a few years later, the publishing scene changed and not for the better of the individual author.

Still have a two drawer file cabinet full of notes for the work as well as part of the manuscript.  In the 90s GM'd two SF RPG campaigns that were set in the story's universe, the latter of which which ran for two and a half years. Would loe to return to it however Leela's story comes first (and I need to get a better hand on custom morphing to create the Sabrinno and other races).

Have you ever read "Wolf and Iron"? The author did extensive research on
wolves, in fact he had to go back and change the manuscript before it was
published when he learned some new things.
The story itself includes a lot of information on lupine behavior that's melded
into the storyline so well that the reader doesn't even realize that they're
    learning while being entertained.

...well Net based publishing, yes, that opens things up again.  With traditional "dead tree" publishing you need to deal with printing - which is expensive, promotion - which is difficult if you are a lousy salesperson like I am,  and distribution - which is a nightmare as the major boookstores are pretty much owned by the big publishers these days.  I'd have to hire people and agencies to help with this and that ain't happening on a 1,000$ a month SS cheque.

The SF idea is back in the stove again but need to get Leela's story out first.  Also when I get moved in to the new place, I'll have all the files for it which are currently in storage.

...didn't read that one however it does sound similar.  I even worked with a graduate biologist to develop their evolutionary track.

The one thing I wanted to move away from is the typical upright standing animal that can use tech which is far too prevalent in Sci Fi and space opera.  As you can see in the illustration they are much more "human" in appearance  (no tails either) though having only four digits on their hands & feet (which is the basis for their counting system) and the lush mane of fur around the face as well as down the centre of the back.  Like our felines, they have a special gland which heightens their sense of smell which is connected to the "pits" on the bridge of their nose rather than upper roof of the mouth.  The picture is also an adult female and you may notice a certain anatomical "omission".  She also has more muscle tone which again follows the trait in the feline species of the female traditionally being the hunter.  Indeed, in their society, females have much more prominence but are not overtly dominant as some authors portray them (in CJ Cherryh's Chanur series for example, the Hani are for the most part a matriarchal society).

One of the other traits of felines which I touch on is how they perceive colour. Cats can actually see blues greens yellows, but more as if they are lighter pastel shades, while red looks more brown.  Hence to humans, their use of colour is tends to be on the somewhat vivid side.  Colour perception is something rarely touched upon, though Anne McCaffrey did so in her Crystal Singer series as those with the talent would see colours far more vividly to the point it was sensory overload.

...thank you.  I have a lot more, but only could afford to scan a few pics (and it took expensive time at Kinkos to get the colour balance correct).  Yeah I miss it. was always more simple when I got an idea to pull the sketchpad and a pencil out and I could carry them with me so if I was at a coffee shop and the muse hit, I could sketch it out immediately instead of have to wait until I got home.  Granted though there is one thing to be said about the digital medium as I do like working with colour again without all the associated mess and smell of oil paint and the various chemicals needed. Don't have to wash things like brushes off afterwards, just save and close the programme.

...bugger, spell check looks like it's out on holiday again.  Turned it on when I started and it is still not picking up on typos. Have to open Word, copy what I wrote over to it (and yes, it did find errors) make the fixes, and paste the corrected version here.

hmmmm opera seems to act up today as it keeps going to a new tab as I type.  I got 7 onto the netbook but it is not accepting the genuine 7 key I have.  Either the internet is too darn slow or something else is up.   I just installed 7 on it last night I think or was it this morning, I cannot remember.  But I just got internet to work on it so I can activate 7 with my key.   Maybe I should finish cleaning the bathroom while waiting as neither Leo the goldfish nor Stevie the Betta will do anything for me.   Do not ask TJ the Guppy to do anything as he is busy.
