Yeah, at least until they come up with the auto Iray LAMH stuff, I prefer using LAMH in 3DL.

Here's a scene I was using to experiment with 3DL realism, decided to give it a whirl in Iray.

I've come up with a lot of good approaches to 3DL realism, but at the end of the day they are only (for me) worth it so long as they are used sparingly, otherwise I'm better off with Iray. For example, you can actually light a scene with no lights! I was doing this scene with no lights, nothing but highly sampled reflections and ambient channel. I think I was looking at a somewhat grainy render and a render time of a little over an hour. This render, on the other hand, took maybe 1/3 that time and looks better.

(Mind you, the nice thing about those tools is getting cool midway stuff, like dialing in to a fun style that's somewhat more realistic but faster and has other 3DL features that an Iray render wouldn't)

Tested out the spectral rendering. Not sure if it made a difference, but the render came out nice (though a touch speckled, even after 'render quality 5' and EXR to work with)

Trying to blend Iray realistically with a photo back, going for psudo-retro... The original may have actually been better though...

And here's the modern version. Not sure if either could pass for an actual photo...

Actually, I think close-up looks a lot better... Maybe it's the pose that seems off...

Finally broke down and got elebeast. My menagerie of (mostly Rawart) humanoid critters is almost complete!

Cool Render! Ganesh is awesome. He's my favorite of the Hindu deities. I'm also a huge fan of Rawart's. He's cool too! wink

Hmmm, I have a heavy stone ball engraved on all surfaces with such an elephant person. It was a gift from India but I don't think it was actually carved by hand, although it's possible. You should check out Mythcon's other dieties on shareCG.

I like this one the most.

I have not tried this myself but I would think adding a bit of "atmosphere" via classical soft focus (nik filters) would help blend things a bit.

SaveI played with a bunch of filters, so many, it was giving me a headache LOL! I just found out about Nik Filters last night, about to download them now! :)

Having a lot of fun trying out and modifying the shaders for car materials. I think I may be getting the hang of it.

Three different V4 character skins applied to Genesis 3 females using Cayman studios converter.

All V4 skins was treated with http://www.daz3d.com/n-g-s-anagenessis-2-revolution

Looks good, I have been CPU rendering a scene with that set for 2 days now using the iRay materials.

The Cayman Studio geograft products can cause visible seems as the geografts are 3DL format and the rest of the model is often iRay. It's a bit of work and more expense but Blacksmith3D's Texture Transformer and the 4 add-ons to that product can transform and save a new texture set as set of mats so you don't have to do geografting. So far I've had no trouble with it but the readme notes says some texture sets can cause troubles that have to be manually edited with PS or Gimp. Lucky for me I don't have oodles of V4 and M4 textures and have started drifting to doing more toon renders.

Nice work! I use the cayman products also quite a bit and they work great!

I'm pretty sure that's a function of Daz Studio. Anytime I've created a geograft it defaults to 3DL and I have to convert it with the Iray Uber Base. The same is true if I create a new surface using the Geometry Tool. Are you converting the Geografts to Iray before applying the skin materials? I ask because I've not noticed any issues with seams using Cayman Studio's Legacy UVs products.

Yes, it is DAZ Studio that creates new materials in 3DL format. It does the same with primatives.

And no, I don't always remember to convert the 3DL geografts to iRay and with my CPU renders it's oftens hours before I go, oops, I forgot. That's why I suggested the permanent texture conversions for those that are forgetful of all those 'gotchas'. both products do the job but if you find yourself forgetting to do part of the conversion process maybe the other product is better for you. Sort of like using a key instead of a combination.

Thanks for the comments. I also have not noticed any problems with Cayman studios converter, when using it with iray.

All three V4 skins after conversion with NGS anagenessis 2 revolution are iray only and I have not spotted any seems on them.

This scene is one of the tests, to find out how many different characters I can put into the scene without exceeding the limit of available VRAM

on my graphic card (8GB) during rendering in iray.

Thread on armor inspired me to pull out a piece I worked on about half a year ago and redo it with some better skills.

    And lo.

This uses http://www.daz3d.com/order-of-the-wolf , which is a rather nice armor set. The design is, first, plausible and looks appropriate for medieval armor. Second, since it makes allowances for mobility like real armor, that ALSO works to avoid placing rigid pieces where they'd distort stupidly.

Here's one for those what want to see what the Aslan Theater looks like after 3 days of CPU render. The HRDI iRay lighting preset used was supplied by 3DU's Mega Toon Generations 2 Bundle. The indoor lights you see weren't changed from how they were configured in the Aslan Theater Preload Preset.

It got to 7% convergence after 3 days CPU render at UHD resolution using DAZ Studio 4.9.3.166

Thanks I am going to set up two more, one will be outdoors and the other indoors. The outdoor one I will be exporting a very simple scene from Unity into DAZ Studio. And then I will finish my DAZ Seal fur & do then render & finally start messing with Blender modeling. No need to wait days for renders to finish with modeling.
