Dynamic Clothing
in The Commons
Hi guys! Can you suggest any plug-ins or programs that can make daz clothings into dynamic in a good way? I mean I know there are already optitex, vwd, and the dynamic plug-in for daz but they're not really good, so what do you guys use to make good dynamic clothings or to convert clothes from daz to dynamic clothings. If this isn't possible, are there any programs to make dynamic clothes that you can transfer to daz? I would like to know what you guys are using and your experiences with using it. :)

Well, there's Marvelous Designers. But you have to make the clothes and it's not cheap. Other than that....
VWD is actually very good. It just has a learning curve.

Bookmarked this thread, I'm really interested in this as well. I've only used Daz and I can't seem to figure out how to make dynamic clothing work.
Can you kindly post your works using vwd? And are there any tutorials in using it? :)
I don't have any images using it yet, but others here have....and there are tutorials (for Poser) at Rendo in freestuff by Biscuits. You should be able to follow along fine since VWD acts the same in both Poser and DS.

It's a finicky program to use and it crashes mysteriously sometimes and a lot of stuff isn't obvious or intuitive. That said, it's the best option for the price that I've run across. (I also have the Optitex plugin, and Optitex can do a few things VWD can't, but VWD can do more, overall)
are we allowed to mention vwd now?
we had a thread full of tips and tricks in the carrara forum and they erased it
I wasn't aware we weren't allowed to mention it. o.O
??

Oops, maybe I shouldn't have told someone to google VWD cloth and hair in another thread, lol. Doing a search in the DAZ forums, there are a lot of discussions where they mention VWD.
Can you export the clothes from marvelous designer to daz and it'll still be dynamic? Or are the clothes not moveable anymore when you export it to daz?
No: clothes imported from MD will be static. If I make clothe with MD I make the posed simulation in MD and import the static result in DS4. MD and Optitex simulators are different
VWD is, for me, the best simulation tool for converting conforming clothes, hair,.... I use it systematically now (I only do static renders). Yes, there is a learning curve (as all dynamic simulator) but dynamic simulations are not one click solution and you can make basic simu very quickly and improve little by little. It's like a drug :-)
If you want some renders: all images in my DS gallery have VWD in action even if it's more or less evident.
Here is the last one, guess for what I used VWD :-)
Thanks for the reply :) so if I'm planning to use marvelous designer I should extract the Genesis figure and pose it there in md? Or can the pose be also extracted to md? I also plan on doing still images :)
It is really high time DS had and offcial userfriendly Dynamic cloth plugin.
Optitex does the job, but its inflexibibilty to allow user/3rd party built content is a major problem.
Physics in general, is one area where studio is really lacking.
Conforming is terrible for longer skirts, cloaks, long coats or any kind of drapery, it just looks waxy the moment you try to pose it, apart from a few limited dynamically simulated pose presets - there is just no way to avoid it.
I make the pose in DS4, I'm a basic user so I followed a tutorial I found (In the manual if I remember well):
In DS4:
- basic T0 pose: export
- make the pose and export
In MD:
- avatar: the T0 pose
- make the clothe
- apply the pose to the avatar
- adjust the clothe
- export the clothe
There are perhaps better workflow but this one fullfill most of my needs now. For example , sometimes the target pose make arms go through the body during the simulation so I think other format export would be better.
That basically creates single shot clothing...most users don't want that. They want fully rigged/posable in any pose clothing that doesn't need exporting/fixing/importing every time you change something.
Didn't say it's the perfect solution, tried to answer the question unknownmystery asked (who also do still image). Sorry!
Intresting, But I'd imagine while that would work well for clothing that was orginally built in MD, or just has very even topology. it would proabably get messy for anything else.
mentioning is OK, unfortunately the thread in question was undoubtably a commercial thread, and as the vendor decided to sell elsewhere it couln't be allowed to remain,
I hope if it's not too much to ask can you kindly make a video tutorial? You don't have to speak in the video, just wanted to see how you do it step by step because I'm just new to daz and also new to MD if I choose to use it. :)
Yes, there is an option to import an object in MD and make simulation on it but I didn't get any satisfying results (like you don't have the template generated you are very limited) I have another preferred tool for that process.
I have no tool for recording video. The process is very basic (standard export/import). In the MD forum I'm sure you will find more complete information. If you have question I will help you if I can (I'm not a technical guy!). MD can import alembic, Fbx or Callada but I still use obj format.
By the way are you also familiar with iclone 6? I'm wondering if you can export the Genesis figures that are already posed to the iclone 6 then make the daz clothes into dynamic there? Then export it from iclone 6 to daz to be rendered?
No I don't use Iclone. I have enough tools for now and I'm far from mastering them :-).
For Dynamic simulations, I now use exclusively VWD even with dynamic clothes made for Poser or DS4, conforming clothes, .. Like I'm not a modeler when I want to create clothes I use MD. But I use only 5% of MD possibilities.
Hi Iclone's cloth effects are internally driven and can not be exported back to Daz studio.
Here's an example of VwD "in action" - It's a really nice tool once you have worked out the naggy little details. https://vimeo.com/182627975
(Mods: I hope this is okay, it just shows the comparision in an animation sequence.)
The OTHER thing is definitely verboten, but VWD seems to be permitted so long, as suggested, as it's not a commercial thread.
I also vouch for VWD, especially if the update has all the features that have been talked about. Now, Will, you have made me really curious--any clues about what is the OTHER thing?
Oh my! I've never thought that VWD can make clothes dynamic in a good way! :) Can you kindly do like a tutorial vid on doing it in Daz? It would help a lot of people :) also can you make any hairs and clothes dynamic even if they are for Genesis 3 figures or characters? :)
There's an update for VWD? And if there is what are the new features of it? :)
There's been talk over at the Rendo forums about an in-progress update that would include fabric presets for standard subdivision poly dimensions (WANT, no more stretchy leather for me), volume simulations for things like pillows, bags etc (really, REALLY want, especially if there's the slightest chance it would allow for some kind of human interaction between figures, unlikely as the prospect seems) and a new manual with a native English speaker working on it, as well as some improvements to the overall speed, stability and efficiency of the program. The creator seems like a very upstanding fellow, and the previous update was free, but given how extensive this all seems... well, I wouldn't be surprised if this was some kind of DLC. Which I would buy. In a second.
Never mind, Will, I remembered what the forbidden thing was. Man, sometimes I feel like we are trying to evade the Deatheater's notice...
Oh hope you can tell me if there's already an update :)
