    Happy Hatchiversay Tjohn

How many birthdays is tjohn allowed to have?

In the span of a few days, I mean.

...I tried to get the state to let me adopt the Mars standard year but they wouldn't go for it (if they did be able to say "half-truthfully" I was 32 and be employable once again).

Wow.  Down here some folks never retire.  Or if they retire from one thing, they hop right onto another.  surprise

    ..."down here",  Where?

    Deep South.  Georgia.

You thinking I've crossed the River Styx? laugh

...thought you might be in Oz.

Nope, content in staying right here in (supposedly) dmp rainy Oregon.  Lived in the South for a year and unfortunately saw too much of the "bad side" of life while I was there, plus can't handle the heat along with the oppressive humidity (as well as totally loathe cockroaches, mosquitoes, and fire ants).

My experience over the last three years since I lost my job has shown me that ageism in hiring and retention has become a serious issue that little is being done about (particularly in the tech sector), hence my decision to retire.  I feel I have a bit more to offer than just greeting customers at Walmart or working the counter at a fast food joint for minimum wage.

'Skeeters and fire ants in the yard.  No cockroaches.

Go independent, if you're a techie. smiley  We have independent techies around here.

Ive had two pints of Guiness and im feeling... rather salty.

    No dinner as of yet.

All ive eaten today is two pieces of cheesy toast, and a couple scones (speeling?).

    Perhaps I shpould eat something.

Perhaps, I should stop typing in my current state... Wasnt spell check just reacemtly added to the forums? Who needs it anyways cheeky.

Hello everbody. I realize that im just ranting and revinfg(?) with no apparent purpose, but I am entertained.

I just wanted to say hello to everyone, cause im in a pretty damn good mood (salty thoyugh I may be.).

    Edit:

Spelling and gramatical errors preserved for entertainments sake.

Ha ha, somebody's been into Grandaddy's corn mash. wink

    Drink up, buddy.

Pacific time here as well. I have a family thing going on this coming weekend. That means that I have to take care of all the yard and house nonsense that ive been neglecting all summer. Yes its time once again for the impossible task of fending off the encroaching jungle. angry

..yikes almost 01:30 here as well.

Early AM and my brain hurts complaint....

Been working on a scene in Carrara myself when for some reason the Transform manipulator stopped working.  I could move the manipulator itself, but whatever Item I have selected just stays in place and doesn't move at all.  The Scale and Rotaion manipulators still work fine, just not the Transform one.   Frustating as it makes setting up scene elements a much bigger chore than it should be as I have to use the transform coordinates in the motion tab which is a real PITA to move things around.  Not sure what would have caused this.

One of the transforms is locked, um Carrara idiosyncratically has two root transforms, one for the local object and one for its world transform you need to look at them  both and unlock the one that is locked :)

Morning's almost gone and I'me barely into my second cup of coffee! In theory it's a public holiday here today, but being self employed I don't get holidays. So I'm in my office as usual. Bummer. Last holiday I had was November 2006!

@ Kyoto Kid: Betcha had caps lock set. That makes the manipulator move the origin point within the object instead of moving the object itself.

I am ticked off as I will probably be late for work as my regular morning transportation does not care what time to come.  They come whenever they want.

I have NEVER seen a cockroach in my part of NY State.  Perhaps they are only city dwellers?

Florida however is another matter.  Cockroaches there are like quantum particles, they pop into existence out of the void in a whole spectrum of sizes.  Some of them ride horses in the saddle. surprise

...a few issues wiith independent contracting:

As a worker you are on the hook for just about everything.  There is no tax withholding, you have to pay a self employment tax, local, state, and federal business taxes, you have to pay for your own healthcare, no Social Security or Medicare is collected, if you can't work because you're ill you don't get paid. if you need a week off to take a breather, you don't get paid, you have to be your own sales department (I'm a terrible salesperson) and today, Net Site administrator (don't have a domain or server and while I know how to build computers I know jack about setting up and mantaining a Net site).  I was self employed for a while, which is why my projected Social Security benefits are lower than they should be.

In the end you find you are working pretty much to support everyone else (particularly the taxman) but yourself.

...interesting, never seen a one in the nearly 30 years I've been here, even when I was living in a dive apartment as well the half cellar flat I occupied for the last 17 of those years.  Mice, spiders, and occasional flooding during heavy rains were more of an issue.

...New Orleans was exceptionally bad.  Even "roach death" sprays and traps did nothing (they pretty much had become resistant to any pesticide). It didn't matter how spotlessly clean you kept your place (including putting food in plastic containers and sealed bags). They even would get into the fridge.  The only thing that seemed to work effectively was fire, however that tends to present somewhat of a "collateral damage" issue indoors.

Some of the ones I saw were so large you could almost duct tape them to your shoes and go "Roach Skating".
