I did a few more different gradients using the RedYellowCracks.jpg that I posted above as the base. I used different gradients and I had to change some of the colors on the cracks themselves so the colors stood out and didn't get washed out. There are two green ones and the difference is very subtle, but there is a difference. The first was an accident as I had a double layer showing on one of the cracks layers when I exported from GIMP. I fixed that in the second green one, but I couldn't figure out which I liked better so you get both!

I found some really nice balloon brushes on DeviantArt by superlibbie and thought I'd make a few kid friendly backgrounds while I was at it since there are a lot of us using Zev0's Growing Up Morphs for creating kids. I think I really like the ones with the balloons going up just one side the best and I might make some more in different primary colors tomorrow. The good thing is that I'm really learning how to use my pallettes, gradients and brushes in GIMP.

Knittingmommy, those balloon backgrounds are amazing, the purple one with balloons up the side is my favorite.
Yeah, I kind of like how that one turned out myself! Thanks. My render is still going so I'll be in GIMP today again making some more kid friendly backgrounds I thought of last night after I shut GIMP down.
@Kharma - This is about as close to sparkly as I could manage. I'll keep working on it.

Okay, since I was in a kid friendly mode, I made some Blackboard type backgrounds perfect for those school portraits in both a 'clean' and 'dirty' version. I did these at 1500 x 1000 just because chalkboards are usually landscaped. Let me know if anyone wants to see anything more specific with anything I make. I'm open to suggestions. I can't guarantee I'll know how to do what you want, but I'm willing to try. I've included blank chalkboards in both clean and dirty versions if anyone wants to use them as a starting point for their own backgrounds or to use as is. Free for commercial use, no credit needed.

So, I made a slight goof with my chalkboards and accidentally used a texture in there that I shouldn't have. It was a real easy fix and I uploaded the new chalkboards, but if anyone happened to download the previous version, please kindly delete those and download the new set in that same post up above. I accidentally used a texture on the chalkboard that wasn't approved for commercial use and I don't want to get anyone in trouble because of my error. The new files are up and the corrected files are definitely appropriate for commercial use. The upside is that the clean version of the chalkboards are a little bit cleaner than the old versions. I'm so sorry about the error. It does show that it pays to always double check where you get textures that you may use in creating things that you are allowing others to use, especially if you are giving permission for them to be used in commercial projects.
I was in GIMP again playing with brushes and learning all sorts of things. I liked how these stars turned out. I hope someone can use them.
And some splattered backgrounds. The differences are sublte with these. I like the intense ones slightly better, but the slightly muted ones might be better depending on the look you want.

FILL 6 With Smoked Glass
Well, by a happy accident, I did some slatted bars. Makes me mad though, the gradient boxes keep disappearing today after I save or export, so I can't ever duplicate them and just switch out colors. Worked fine a few days ago. Oh well, you get a variety.
I've got Fill 6 done (yes, there are Fill 4 and Fill 5, the order doesn't really matter, I started playing with this one and really REALLY like the results so going ahead and posting them for you today.) Here's what it is, in Corel Photo Paint:
Did the gradient fills. First is Fill 6, use it to do other effects on top of it. (or any of these. You'll see what cool effects you can by layering. Next I'll add linen.)
Then did Smoked Glass 25, then next one 50, then 65. The higher the number, the more "fog" there is to soften the background. ANYONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE A GRAPHICS PROGRAM EVER WANTS ME TO SMOKE GLASS A BACKGROUND YOU HAVE, LET ME KNOW. This was with white.

Took the above (Fill 6, Smoked Glass) and added Linen. 42 then 62, then 82, then 100
Wait till you see what it looks like when I add Elephant Skin on top of it. Very ELEgant! (Couldn't resist.)
